Chapter 492: Chapter 487: Sister-in-law Xie’s Complints
The people sent out had disappeared without a trace again.
The base was well aware of what was going on.
In these past two or three years, the probability of people they sent coming back dwindled increasingly.
“Snap.”
In the central eting room of the base, soone slapped the table, staring coldly at Shen Wenhong seated to the left.
“Our losses have been too severe lately, Dr. Shen, what do we do now to make up for it?”
“The start of all this was because of your request, the items were sent to your side, yet you couldn’t ensure their safe use, letting them be destroyed with ease. Dr. Jian’s situation is now very dangerous, and we still have to send people to deal with it. Dr. Shen, with one troubleso issue after another, do you have no other explanation?”
“You’re not doing this on purpose, are you?” Soone questioned the motives of Mr. and Mrs. Shen.
“We trust you, but you also have to give us so assurance. Now that you’ve lost our trust, Dr. Shen, if you want to employ manpower again, we will have to think twice.”
“This ti, perhaps Dr. Shen shouldn’t accompany the mission; it would be more fitting for you to stay here and conduct your research.”
The eting room was brimming with hostility.
Shen Wenhong sat among them, listening to these suspicious attacks, remaining indifferent throughout.
“Business is getting tougher for us. We can understand the Pacino Family reneging on their deal, but why are our southern ventures also facing obstruction? Dr. Shen, I’ve heard your side has quite a few people infiltrating and causing trouble; surely you and your spouse aren’t contributing to this.”
This statent was t with even chillier looks from Shen Wenhong.
Once the seed of doubt is sown, everything you do seems incorrect.
Shen Wenhong simply glanced over the people at the eting table and said slowly, “If you no longer trust us, you could just expel us; it would save a lot of trouble. Why even waste words here?”
“You think we wouldn’t dare? To leave the base, you know the rules. There’s no way out for Dr. Jian, but you, Dr. Shen, you could. Would you dare to disable your own brain?”
Hearing this sarcastic remark, Shen Wenhong let out a cold laugh, “If my brain were disabled, the entire base would be almost done for. I believe you could find soone else with expertise in this area, but that would take another ten, twenty years. Are you sure you want to miss out on such a period of developnt? Expelling us would only bring greater losses to everyone.”
“You…”
“Dr. Shen, it’s not just you and your wife we have! We have other talents as well.”
The implication was clear: they weren’t indispensable.
Shen Wenhong chuckled coldly again, “Then give it a try, see how long this place can last without us. Having done research for the base for so long, you don’t really think we only focus on research, do you? Go ask the Guard, whether they would follow the base or us.”
Hearing this, everyone’s eyes widened in shock.
“What have you done, Dr. Shen!”
“Do you intend to take this place for yourself? How shaless.”
“This cannot be left as is, we must find out what’s going on. Dr. Shen’s power is excessive, it’s ti to take so of it back.”
“Shen Wenhong, do you think we’re just decorations? We are the true leaders here!”
“Enough!” the person in the main seat said sternly, slapping the table, “Is now the ti for infighting? We must unite to bring Dr. Jian back; once we enter that area, we will face many restrictions and need more preparations. Two groups have been positioned already, and when the third arrives, we will depart. We are here to discuss who to send, not to argue.”
Shen Wenhong glanced at the person in the main seat and stood up, “It seems I am not suited to be here; I’ve already been selected as one of the candidates, the rest is for you to discuss.”
The person in the main seat asked in a deep voice, “Dr. Shen, where are you going?”
Shen Wenhong replied, “I’m going to address the mistakes of this operation and summarize the reasons for the failure.”
The person then eased their expression and allowed Shen Wenhong to leave.
No sooner had Shen Wenhong left the eting room than the attendees burst into a commotion, essentially stating that the Shen couple’s power had grown too vast, threatening their own status, and were looking for indirect ways to suppress the two.
It was laughable that the base could not do without them now…
*
Xiao Ling and her team encountered a formidable opponent.
Their team mber was seriously injured, and Xiao Ling and the others had no choice but to retreat.
Because her injuries had not fully healed, Xiao Ling joined the operation again, and the enemy, with help from unknown sources, suppressed them to the brink of a disastrous defeat.
Shen Yan arrived at the cetery in the afternoon and imdiately saw busy figures as she entered, surrounded by the injured.
Shen Yan ca to Shen Zheng’s room, which was very quiet, with only Shen Zheng lying on the bed.
Xiao Ling was not there.
A few hours earlier, Xiao Ling had replied to her ssage, so she should have been okay, and Shen Yan didn’t specifically go looking for her.
It wasn’t until dinner that Xiao Ling appeared.
She was covered in bandaged wounds, holding two dinner servings in her hands.
Xiao Ling put down the dinners with a look of exhaustion and glanced at Shen Zheng on the bed, “I thought you’d co later,” she said, “don’t you have to record?”
“It rained today, not convenient.”
“I forgot about that…” Xiao Ling tried to lift her arm but found it too difficult, so she simply tilted her head and rubbed her shoulder, alleviating the itch on her face, and then continued, “We should have had a smooth operation, but we were careless. We don’t know where the enemy got their help, they nearly wiped us out.”
Shen Yan watched her without speaking.
Xiao Ling forced a smile, “Scared, huh? This is my life. It’s no wonder your brother can’t accept it. He’s the golden boy, whereas I’m just a crawler from hell.”
Upon hearing her pessimistic remark, Shen Yan said, “He’s not like that.”
Xiao Ling did not speak again.
She closed her eyes wearily, resting against the chair.
Shen Yan opened her al box and began to eat in silence beside her.
While eating, Shen Yan noticed that the person on the bed moved slightly, so she stopped and moved closer to the bedside.
Hearing the noise, Xiao Ling opened her eyes, her eyes shining with excitent, “Is he awake?”
“He moved a bit, probably can hear us talking,” Shen Yan looked at Xiao Ling, “Obviously, he’d prefer to hear your voice. Why don’t you give him a little nudge? Stir him up a bit?”
Xiao Ling’s mouth twitched slightly, “Are you sure you’re his actual sister?”
Shen Yan lifted her hand and patted Shen Zheng’s face, “Big brother, if you don’t wake up, my future sister-in-law will run off with sobody else, and let tell you, there’s a man who’s been pursuing her fiercely lately. You know, won’s tastes are just like n’s, fall in love with every new face, and when they find soone better, it’s hard to stay in control.”
Xiao Ling: “…”
Continuing with a nonchalant expression, Shen Yan said, “If big brother doesn’t fancy his future sister-in-law, just pretend I said nothing, it’s not who will regret it. Oh, and last night, I saw a man enter the potential sister-in-law’s room, when she ca out, she looked as if she’d fought several battles, you know, a beauty like her, even I’m moved, let alone those stinking n…”
Xiao Ling: “…”
Watching Shen Yan keep a cold face while spouting this nonsense, Xiao Ling truly doubted whether her intention was to stimulate Shen Zheng awake or to anger him to death.
Just as Xiao Ling thought such talk would be nothing but detrintal, the person on the bed actually moved, even showing signs of opening his eyes.
Xiao Ling’s eyes widened in surprise, she gave Shen Yan a thumbs-up!
“You’re really an actor!”
“Thanks for the complint, Sister-in-law Xie.”
“Is your brother waking up? This works?”
“Should we call a doctor?”
Xiao Ling slapped her thigh, disregarding the wounds on her body, turned, and ran out, shouting loudly to the outside.
