「Hangcheng Amusent Park.」
Shen Fanyun had assud Lin iqing was rely acting on a whim, a spur-of-the-mont decision. Even if she really did co, it would just be to go through the motions.
However, Shen Fanyun soon discovered that he had completely underestimated her. This auntie... she was truly young at heart.
"I’ll go buy the tickets," Lin iqing said, handing her handbag to Shen Fanyun before getting in line.
Because she was so stunningly beautiful, several older n in line didn’t hesitate to give up their spots for her. Their ulterior motives were perfectly clear.
Ten minutes later, Lin iqing returned with a stack of tickets.
"Shall we ride the roller coaster first?" Lin iqing asked.
Shen Fanyun blinked. What the hell? We?
He looked up at the massive tracks sprawling across the sky, and his stomach started to churn.
I only agreed to co with you. I never said I’d ride with you!
"Auntie, I’m scared," Shen Fanyun said, on the verge of tears. What kind of ss is this?
Lin iqing blinked and smiled. "Actually, I’m a bit scared too."
"But there’s always a first ti for everything, right? If we try it, we won’t be afraid anymore," she said, blinking again.
Shen Fanyun felt like he’d been shanghaied.
"Let’s go." Lin iqing had lost her earlier restraint and shyness. She began laughing and talking with Shen Fanyun. At one point, complaining he was too slow, she pulled his hand to quicken their pace.
Her hand was soft and delicate, and it was no longer as cool as before. With their fingers interlocked, Shen Fanyun felt a pleasant warmth radiating from it.
"AHHH!"
"This is so intense! AHHH!"
A torrent of howls and shrieks assaulted Shen Fanyun’s ears from the roller coaster. He rubbed his forehead as his heart began to pound in his chest.
"You can do it, Xiao Shen."
Once they were strapped in, Lin iqing cheered him on.
Shen Fanyun looked pitiful, his voice strained and unnatural. "Auntie, do we really have to do this? Auntie..."
Lin iqing covered her mouth and giggled, her eyes curving like crescent moons at the zenith of the sky.
As expected, Shen Fanyun made a complete fool of himself in front of her. When they finally got off the roller coaster, his legs were trembling so badly that he nearly threw up.
Lin iqing reacted quickly, catching Shen Fanyun’s arm. "Are you okay?" she asked with concern.
As their bodies pressed together, Shen Fanyun clearly felt his elbow brush against the softest part of her upper body. She didn’t seem to notice.
Oh well. I’ll just consider this compensation.
"Shall we continue?" Lin iqing asked, her gaze locked onto the pirate ship.
Shen Fanyun gritted his teeth. "I’ll risk life and limb to keep you company."
"You silly boy," Lin iqing said, about to help him to the side to rest. "If you can’t do it, we can stop. It’s fine. I’ve already had a wonderful ti today."
This ti, it was his turn to take the initiative. Shen Fanyun straightened his back and grabbed Lin iqing’s right hand. "Together."
"Mm-hmm," Lin iqing humd. She smoothed her hair back, looking like an eighteen- or nineteen-year-old girl with eyes full of excitent and anticipation. She followed obediently, occasionally peeking out from behind him to chat.
As twilight approached, Lin iqing stood in an open area. Shen Fanyun took out his phone to take a picture of her as a keepsake.
She instinctively threw up a peace sign, her face filled with a serene and beautiful smile. For a mont, it was as if she had dread her way back to her girlhood. But when she snapped out of it, she realized that girl was from more than twenty years ago.
Ti flies, slipping away in the blink of an eye.
"Thank you," Lin iqing said joyfully as she flipped through the photos. A smile she couldn’t suppress spread across her face. She hadn’t taken any decent pictures of herself in so many years.
Shen Fanyun smiled. "You’re welco."
At so point during the day, Shen Fanyun had used his phone to order a large cake for her. Lin iqing invited him to her ho to share it, ntioning that Lin Jia should be ho from work by then.
Two won and one man? And one of them a genuine mature beauty? I’ve used up way too much ntal energy today. I can’t muster the strength to fight. I’ll have to face those two another day. Yes, another day!
"I have sothing to do tonight, so I won’t be able to stay, Auntie," Shen Fanyun said, making his excuses.
Lin iqing didn’t insist. "Mm-hmm, all right."
As he was about to leave, Lin iqing suddenly turned back. She walked right up to Shen Fanyun and gave him a big hug. "Thank you. Really!"
A rich fragrance wafted into his nostrils—sweet but not cloying, with a subtle woody note. It was the legendary man-slayer scent. Her warm body pressed tightly against his. He had no idea what she was thinking at that mont.
Once Lin iqing left, he was alone again. The setting sun vanished, and moonlight began to spill across the sky. A strange feeling crept over him. Why do I suddenly feel such a sense of loss?!
「In the taxi.」
Lin iqing opened the window, stretching her pale arm out to feel the gentle evening breeze. As the taxi sped away, Shen Fanyun’s figure grew more and more distant, eventually shrinking to a black dot before vanishing completely.
"Did you know? Jiajia isn’t my biological daughter. I’ve never been married, nor have I ever given birth."
"Of course, you wouldn’t know that."
She tilted her head against the window, her hair fluttering in the wind. She had eyes that always seed to smile, like autumn pools, shimring brightly as she blinked. It was unclear if she was talking to herself or hoping the words would ride the wind to find soone ant to hear them.
My na is Lin iqing, and I am forty-two years old. More than half my life has passed. Looking back, I realize I’ve missed out on so, so much. I missed the chance at twenty to fall in love with a man worthy of my life’s trust, to proudly beco a woman, a wife, and a mother. I missed the chance to build a family. Now, Jiajia is all grown up. Shouldn’t I live for myself, for once? But I’m already forty-two. An old woman, through and through.
Over the last twenty years, Lin iqing had t many n who coveted her body. So were exceptional, so were destitute, and so were even more handso than Shen Fanyun. However, they all seed to be missing sothing.
The mont she acted a little cold or aloof, they would invariably retreat. Even the persistent ones were just greasy and crude, their beastly desires and covetousness written all over their faces, completely lacking any refinent or substance.
But then there’s... this glib-tongued boy. He dared to be audacious from the mont he saw . A twenty-year age gap, and yet he dared to think it, dared to act on it. And today, he was even the one who asked out.
She liked assertive n—n with both the desire and the courage to act on it.
Shen Fanyun... Fanyun... to overturn clouds and summon rain... what would that feel like?
Lin iqing reached up, her hand slowly stroking her own increasingly hot neck as a flush crept across her face.
She leaned against the window. Outside, the city lights were few and far between. Couples walked hand-in-hand, flashing past the window from ti to ti. She, too, hoped that one day, she could walk down the street holding the hand of the man she loved.
