Lin Jia had a lively personality and a rather quirky way of thinking.

"Director, look at my outfit today. Don’t I look like a sweet young girl?" Lin Jia turned her head and giggled, teasing Shen Fanyun.

Shen Fanyun nodded, his tone languid. "Sure, sure."

"You didn’t even glance at ," Lin Jia pouted. "That’s so perfunctory."

Shen Fanyun genuinely lacked the energy. The recent bout of intense ’exercise’ had completely drained him, leaving his legs as weak as jelly. Right now, Shen Fanyun needed ti to recover. How could he have the energy to engage in endless chatter with Lin Jia? If this were his own ho, he would have been in bed asleep long ago.

"I’m about to die from exhaustion," Shen Fanyun murmured, hoping Lin Jia would leave him alone.

Lin Jia was clueless. "Are you that tired?"

Tired is an understatent. Your mother is so alluring, she can ensnare in minutes. I’ve lost count of how many tis I’ve lost myself with Lin iqing lately. What’s more, for a woman in her early forties, she’s truly insatiable.

"Did you not sleep last night? Why are you so tired?" Lin Jia wondered, noticing Shen Fanyun’s pale complexion and weak appearance.

Luckily, Lin iqing stepped in to provide an excuse. "I’ve been feeling unwell these past couple of days, and he’s been running around taking care of . It hasn’t been easy for him. It’s only normal that he’s tired. Let him sleep for a while."

What? A grown man is just going to pass out here, without a care in the world?

Lin Jia had been planning to take a nice bath and then sit down for a al with Lin iqing in so comfortable clothes. At ho, she usually preferred not to wear pants—a habit she’d inherited from her mother.

"This all feels so weird," Lin Jia mumbled. When she turned to look again, Shen Fanyun had actually fallen asleep and was snoring faintly.

"Mom, what are you cooking today?" Lin Jia asked as she walked into the kitchen. She suddenly caught a whiff of a thick, heavy odor. "What’s that sll?" She waved her hand, detecting a hint of sothing fishy.

"Ah?" Lin iqing was startled. Fortunately, she had bought a fish today, so she quickly shifted the focus to the poor thing. "It’s fish. The sll of fish," she said, keeping her back turned to Lin Jia.

"Did you get a new cleaning rag?" Lin Jia looked around, her eyes landing on a new rag full of creases and water stains.

Lin iqing was speechless. Good grief, are you playing twenty questions? The questions are endless.

While Lin Jia was distracted, Lin iqing snatched the rag and tossed it into the sink to destroy the evidence. If her daughter discovered anything unusual, she would be too mortified to ever face anyone again.

"Go wait outside," Lin iqing said, shooing her out. "Dinner will be ready soon."

Lin Jia shrugged and walked out. Staring at Shen Fanyun snoring like a log on the sofa, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the atmosphere today was incredibly bizarre. Both Shen Fanyun and her mother were acting quite different from usual. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she racked her little brain, she couldn’t figure out what exactly was wrong.

「An hour later.」

The dishes were served. Lin iqing asked Lin Jia to wake Shen Fanyun. The drowsy man sat up and mumbled, "iqing, is Jiajia back? Then I better leave quickly!"

Lin Jia was speechless. Lin iqing was speechless.

What did that an? Why was he so eager to run away the mont he heard I was back? And why was he calling my mother so affectionately? Could they have so kind of unusual relationship?

"Ahem, sorry, sorry. I guess I was sleeping too soundly," Shen Fanyun said, startled fully awake as he quickly wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth.

Lin Jia stared at Shen Fanyun, her expression thoughtful.

Shen Fanyun just shrugged, making himself at ho. "Well, let’s eat. I’m a little hungry."

Lin Jia glanced from Shen Fanyun to Lin iqing and back again, her wide eyes filled with confusion.

"How has work been lately?" Shen Fanyun asked, trying to start a conversation.

"The usual," Lin Jia replied perfunctorily.

"Did you get a raise?" Shen Fanyun asked.

"I haven’t even been working for a full year. It’s not that easy to get a raise," Lin Jia said. However, the salary Su Xiyang offered was already very generous, almost double what the other interns from her year were making.

"Later, I’m going to help your family deal with a troubleso shrew. The mission of protecting your mom falls to you."

This topic finally caught Lin Jia’s attention. "What do you an?" she asked, puzzled.

Lin iqing concisely explained the conflict that had erupted with Xu Yun earlier that day. Lin Jia’s brow furrowed. "That Auntie Xu Yun is going too far!"

Tch. A shrew like that doesn’t deserve to be called ’Auntie’ by !

Lin Jia rembered a ti when Xu Yun had been particularly forward with her, checking in daily and frequently visiting their ho. In short, her warmth was excessive, and it had almost left Lin Jia with a complex.

"I absolutely do not want to marry her son," Lin Jia huffed. It wasn’t just that she had no feelings for Xu Yun’s son and barely knew him; there was more to it.

Lin Jia wasn’t one to look down on people, nor did she discriminate against Xu Yun’s son for his intellectual disability, but Xu Yun’s demands were simply outrageous.

"That shrew even has the gall to think that marrying her son is my good fortune! Heh, I just want to spit right in her face," Lin Jia seethed.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Just then, a series of urgent knocks shattered the living room’s tranquility. Lin Jia jumped, her brow knitting tightly. Speak of the devil...

"They’re here?" Lin iqing asked Shen Fanyun.

Shen Fanyun shrugged, unfazed. Good that they ca early. The sooner this is resolved, the better for everyone.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The aggressive knocking resud.

Shen Fanyun opened the door. A burly, bald man stood there, clearly taken aback for a mont. He peeked inside, and upon spotting Lin iqing, his voice turned cold. "Lin iqing, co downstairs. You know what this is about. Hurry up. There’s no hiding from it."

The bald man shot Shen Fanyun a provocative glare before heading straight downstairs.

Lin iqing went to the kitchen window and looked down. Dozens of tough-looking people had gathered near the apartnt building. At the forefront stood Xu Yun, hands on her hips, spewing arrogant curses. A crowd of neighbors, out for an evening stroll after dinner, began to gather and watch the spectacle curiously. Soon, the area below was swarming with people.

"Lin iqing, today I’m going to strip you naked right here in public for everyone to see! A shaless woman like you deserves to be disgraced for life, so you can never hold your head high again! Hmph! Are you too scared to co down, Lin iqing? Get your ass out here now!"

At the ntion of stripping clothes—especially from a first-class beauty like Lin iqing—the n in the crowd grew excited. The catcalls and shouts rose in successive waves.

"Boss Lady Xu, you better be a woman of your word! We’re all waiting to see you strip Lin iqing!"

"A woman as beautiful as Lin iqing... I’ve never seen her without clothes before. Tsk, tsk... I can hardly contain myself."
