Hearing footsteps on the stairs, Ye Li quickly stuffed her phone under the pillow and closed her eyes, pretending she was still asleep.
But Fu Yanci saw through her act instantly.
"Wife, it’s ti to eat!"
"..."
Gurgle.
Gurgle gurgle.
Ye Li’s stomach betrayed her.
Ye Li opened her eyes, utterly embarrassed and annoyed.
Originally, she had planned to crash at Qin Chu’s place this weekend. Who would’ve thought two cans of beer would knock her out? She woke up to find herself in the Fu Family’s top-floor lounge.
Half-asleep, she vaguely rembered threatening Fu Yanci not to call her "Ah Li." As for whether she’d said anything else, Ye Li was less certain.
Looking at the man, though—he seed well-fed, cheerful, and relaxed.
Maybe not?
Ye Li sighed quietly to herself.
What a waste!
She had wanted to use her drunkenness as an excuse to lecture him on what it ant to be a virtuous man—soone who cherishes his wife rather than dreaming of unattainable first loves. To make him see sense and appreciate the present.
But she feared that saying it outright would tear down the façade she’d worked so hard to maintain, leaving no way to return to their current peaceful illusion.
Spiraling in her thoughts, Ye Li was nearly pulling her hair out with indecision.
Fu Yanci set the food down on the table, then glanced up to find Ye Li wrapped in her blanket, lost in thought.
Morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the monochro-thed room with brightness.
The girl, with her black hair and fair skin, sat perfectly still, her ssy hair and calm expression giving the room a touch of vibrance—making everything feel more lively and pleasant.
"What’s on your mind?"
Fu Yanci walked over, ruffling Ye Li’s hair. "Still not fully awake? Do you want to sleep a bit longer?"
Ye Li looked up. "Do you have any social engagents tonight?"
Fu Yanci shook his head.
Ye Li murmured softly, "Chu Chu scored high in her competition. I promised I’d throw her a celebration party. Wanna co with ?"
Though her tone sounded like a suggestion, her eyes carried an unyielding authority.
It was as though if he dared refuse, she’d kick him off the bed right this instant.
Amusent flickered in Fu Yanci’s eyes. "Your command is my directive—I’ll go!"
Now that’s more like it!
Ye Li relaxed inwardly, then pulled out her phone to ssage Qin Chu. Afterward, she wrapped herself in a towel and headed to the bathroom.
At 8 p.m., the bar street buzzed with activity.
Qin Chu’s racing team was full of young guys. After the competition, the ones who ranked were thrilled, and those who didn’t weren’t discouraged. As soon as nightfall hit, they were clamoring for an all-night drinking spree.
When Ye Li entered, holding Fu Yanci’s arm, the group froze in confusion and turned their eyes toward Qin Chu.
Qin Chu shot Ye Li a helpless look, then gave everyone a aningful glance before introducing, "This is my best gal pal, Ye Li. And her man. The venue and drinks tonight? All courtesy of her. Eat, drink, and do whatever makes you happy!"
Just one ntion of "Ye Li’s man," with no na, no details.
Though his deanor seed calm and aloof, not particularly approachable, his aura alone hinted he wasn’t an ordinary person.
Especially considering he was the boss’s friend.
Respect by association, if nothing else.
"Thanks, buddy..."
"Hey, bro! What’s your na? Into racing? Drop by soti—I’ll show you the ropes!"
"Hey, man, co take a seat! You’re out having fun—don’t stick to your wife all night. Let’s have so drinks!"
Fu Yanci hadn’t even sat down before he was dragged off by a group of young racers, his expression hinting: "Dare feed dog food tonight, and I’ll drink you under the table—trust ."
When he glanced back, Ye Li was already in the corner with Qin Chu, buried in the song selection.
Fu Yanci had a hunch—he sort of guessed what Ah Li might be up to.
A faint smile spread across his lips. He casually picked up a beer and raised it to the group. "Sorry for being late—three rounds as punishnt!"
Oh, he’s playing along?
Cheers erupted as one guy shouted, "You’re a champ, man!" and another chid in, "Since you’re so ga, I’ll join you for three rounds!"
The room instantly ca alive.
At the karaoke machine, Ye Li’s ears perked up, her eyes sparkling.
She glanced first at Fu Yanci, who was already mingling effortlessly with the racers.
Then at Ye Li, embodying barely-contained excitent.
Qin Chu eyed her with a skeptical expression. "Lizi, are you sure this whole ’drunken confessions’ plan will work on Uncle Fu?"
"Of course it will! He’s human, not a god!"
"But what if Fu’s drinking etiquette matches his personality? You’d better be careful not to shoot yourself in the foot."
"...Qin Chuchu, say sothing supportive—or we won’t be sisters anymore!"
"Good luck, my dear—you’ve totally got this!"
Ye Li: ...
The party didn’t wind down until 1 a.m.
At so point during the night, they’d gone through beer, premium wine, whiskey, and even Icelandic red tea.
Whether Fu Yanci was oblivious to how much he’d drunk or simply too caught up in the atmosphere, one thing was clear—he didn’t turn down a single drink.
Walking out of the bar, Ye Li noticed his slightly unsteady steps and felt an unexpected thrill. Outwardly, though, her expression was one of deep concern. "Fu Yanci, are you okay?"
"I’m fine..."
He shook his head, staring at her for a long while as if finally recognizing her. Then he relaxed, leaning his weight entirely on her.
The sudden shift nearly sent Ye Li straight to her knees, her already sore back and legs screaming in protest.
Ye Li: !!!
By the ti she managed to drag him to the car, her back was soaked through.
The Maybach pulled out of the parking lot, and Ye Li found herself suddenly indecisive.
Where to go?
The Fu Family’s top-floor lounge?
Judging by Fu Yanci’s state, he’d definitely be needing hangover soup, but the lounge didn’t even have a kitchen.
Lishan Mansion?
Her gut instinct resisted the idea.
Before she could decide on heading to the Ye Mansion, the man stirred in the passenger seat. "Wife, take to Lishan Mansion. I want to go ho."
There’s sothing about familiar places that makes people drop their guard.
Ye Li’s mind flashed to this thought. She nodded. "Alright."
The car headed straight for Lishan Mansion.
It took considerable effort to get Fu Yanci inside. Once there, he collapsed onto the sofa, his eyes glazed and dazed.
Ye Li’s eyes gradually lit up.
"Fu Yanci?"
"Ah Li, I’m here."
"Look at . Do you know who I am?"
"You’re Ye Li. You’re Mrs. Fu. You’re my Ah Li. You’re my Xiao Li Hua... Ah Li, is this good enough for you?"
???
An inner voice told her: He’s definitely drunk. That’s probably why he’s able to recite those oft-repeated phrases so easily.
But another part of her wondered: Is he actually drunk?
Watching Fu Yanci tightly gripping her wrist, refusing to let go...
Ye Li froze. "Fu Yanci, are you... drunk?"
"Drunk? No, I’m not drunk..."
Fu Yanci shook his head, propped his heavy body up, and pulled Ye Li into his arms. "Ah Li, I’m going to tell you a secret..."
Whoosh!
Her heart shot into her throat.
Ye Li’s ears perked up.
