A peaceful night of good dreams.
As dawn slightly brightened the sky, a faint aroma of pancakes drifted through the air, and Ye Li opened her eyes to the familiar large bed and the familiar room, montarily feeling as if she had returned to the past.
Without bothering to wash up, Ye Li dashed out of her room, only to stop despondently at the railing.
The television in the living room was off.
Her father, who should have been seated on the sofa watching the morning news, was nowhere to be seen.
The house was still the sa house.
But she could never return to the past, to the ho where her father was still present.
Standing alone for a long while before snapping back to reality, Ye Li turned back to her room, washed up, changed her clothes, and went downstairs to have breakfast with Li Xueqing and Aunt Lan.
After breakfast, the Ye Family’s driver arrived and Ye Li said goodbye to the two before returning to school.
Monday marked the official comncent of the end-of-term exams.
The entire campus seed to switch to silent mode, with teachers and students hurrying about, and even those reciting scripts in the English corner dared not raise their voices, whispering the words instead.
The various dining areas also beca much emptier.
By Wednesday when the exams had concluded, regardless of good or poor performances, everyone seed jubilant.
eting acquaintances on the road, every conversation started with "Where do you plan to go during the holiday?"
In room 520 where Ye Li returned, Lu Xiaoxiao was busy cleaning.
Seeing Ye Li roll up her sleeves to join in, Lu Xiaoxiao quickly stopped her, "You should head ho; I can manage this since I’m free anyway."
Ye Li was puzzled, "Aren’t you going ho?"
Lu Xiaoxiao shook her head, "Yun Kai and I agreed to visit ho every two years. We visited last Spring Festival, so we’re not going back this year. That’s why we both picked up several tutoring jobs over the winter break."
Winter and sumr vacations were pri opportunities for middle and high school students to catch up; wealthy families hired one-on-one celebrity tutors, while ordinary families sought university students with excellent academic and ethical records.
Lu Xiaoxiao and Xie Yunkai, being top students, were in high demand.
After freelancing for over two years, they had already built a stable clientele. At the onset of every vacation, their phones buzzed with people scheduling appointnts.
"Well, you won’t have to tutor on New Year’s Eve. I’ll call you then, and you and Xie Yunkai can co over for New Year’s dinner at my place."
Seeing the expression on Lu Xiaoxiao’s face, Ye Li struck a pose with hands on her hips, her tone and deanor precisely demanding, "No refusals! Otherwise, it’ll be like we’re plastic sisters!"
"Okay..."
Lu Xiaoxiao nodded with a smile, "Thanks, Lizi!"
The sound of a text ssage chid, and after a glance at her screen, Ye Li waved at Lu Xiaoxiao, "My boyfriend is here to pick up, so I’m heading out. Finish the food in the fridge soon, and feel free to wear any clothes in my closet... We’ll keep in touch through WeChat!"
With those words, she disappeared by the elevator door.
Lu Xiaoxiao, with a radiant smile, closed the door and continued mopping the floor.
Ye Li ran to the school gate and imdiately spotted the Maybach parked by the roadside.
Fearing that he would start with "Ah Li, did you miss ," Ye Li decided to make the first move.
She opened the passenger door, got into the car, and with a radiant smile, she said, "Fu Yanci, I’ve missed you so much."
The man was montarily stunned, a smile seeping through his eyes.
"Ah Li..."
He leaned over to buckle her seatbelt and couldn’t resist planting a quick kiss near her lips.
Fu Yanci grinned, "Starting to miss now might be a bit late!"
From Sunday to Wednesday, four full days, he hadn’t called or texted to avoid disturbing her revisions.
Yet, she hadn’t called or ssaged him once.
He had even asked Gu Lanqing how often they should contact each other when swamped with work.
Several days had passed, yet as Fu Yanci recalled it, he still clearly rembered Gu Lanqing’s annoyed response.
