The next day was Friday, and there were no classes in the afternoon.
The driver was already waiting outside of East Gate, and Ye Li headed straight for the hospital once she got in the car.
Before she even got close, she could hear the laughter and chatter coming from the hospital room.
Ye Li hurried forward and saw Aunt Lan and her mother, one sitting and the other lying down.
Aunt Lan was holding a fruit tray, peeling an apple while keeping her eyes glued to the TV.
Her mother was even more comfortable.
She was half reclining on the bed, holding a crystal fruit tray filled with seeds, nuts, and bright red dates.
On the TV was a variety show that had just been updated at noon.
Ye Li’s eyes smiled, and she quietly walked over and sat on the sofa.
During the comrcial break, Li Xueqing turned around, her face lighting up, "Ah Li, is that you?"
Ye Li walked over with a smile.
Li Xueqing playfully pinched her face, "You’re becoming more disobedient as you grow up! I told you it’s alright, Aunt Lan is here, you should focus on your studies instead of always running here."
It had only been over two months, but Ye Li felt as if she hadn’t heard her mother’s gentle nagging in what seed like a century.
Hearing it now felt doubly warm.
"Alright..."
Drawing out her voice, Ye Li cooed in response and snuggled into her mother’s arms.
Gently patting Ye Li’s back as if soothing a baby, Li Xueqing tentatively asked, "Why hasn’t He Chen visited these past two days? Ah Li, have you two made up?"
Ye Li paused.
A buzzing sound started, and the hospital bed slowly rose.
Ye Li sat up straight, watching her mother’s solemn expression and said with imnse headache, "Mom, I have exams coming up, my head’s full of study topics, I don’t have ti to deal with him!"
Speaking, Ye Li narrowed her eyes, "Mom, don’t you like anymore? Do you prefer Zhou Hechen? Should I call him to co peel these ugly apples for you, and I’ll disappear imdiately, alright?"
!!!
The conversation rapidly veered off course.
Li Xueqing laughed and scolded, pointing at Ye Li and complaining to Aunt Lan, "See, I just ntioned it and she has a whole basket of words ready for . I don’t know who spoiled her like this!"
"Oh... I wonder who spoiled her like that!"
Aunt Lan nodded in agreent, all smiles.
After having lunch together, Li Xueqing urged Ye Li to return to school, "Didn’t you say you have exams coming up? Hurry back. Just a few more days of hard work, and after the exams, we’ll go ho!"
Go... ho?
Ye Li was stunned.
Beside her, Aunt Lan spoke softly, "The Lady said, since resting in the hospital and at ho are the sa, it might be better to go ho. I asked the doctor, and he said rehabilitation at ho would be fine, as long as we co back regularly for check-ups."
For ntal conditions, especially sudden ones like Li Xueqing’s, there weren’t any quick and effective dical treatnts.
The patient needed to maintain a light and happy mood, supplented by dication.
The rest was left to ti.
Ye Li nodded, but inside, her heart was trembling.
In the Ye Mansion, every corner held her father’s shadow and presence, stirring emotions; wouldn’t her mother miss her father even more?
Just as this thought crossed her mind, she heard her mother’s suspicious voice, "Sister Lan, I told you yesterday to bring my phone. I need to call Brother Shen, did you forget?"
Ye Li’s heartbeat stopped abruptly.
Looking up again, she saw Aunt Lan turning to pull out a phone from the suitcase, "Rembered, rembered... Here, I brought it for you."
It was too late to stop it, Ye Li watched helplessly as Li Xueqing scrolled through her contacts to dial "Brother Shen."
Beep.
Beep beep.
Hearing the voice on the other end of the phone, Ye Li’s heart, already sunken into Bing Lake, ca to a sudden halt.
The next mont, the call connected.
