Ye Li had barely taken a step out of bed when her feet gave way beneath her.

The man lunged forward to cushion her fall.

At this mont, she lay in his arms, one hand still scrolling on the smartphone that was on the ground, looking utterly content.

Completely forgetting that they were both still on the floor.

"..."

Ye Li scrambled up from Fu Yanci’s body in a fluster, "I’m so, so sorry..."

Just a simple movent had Ye Li gasping for air, vision starting to spin.

Seeing this, Fu Yanci got up, sat with her on the floor for a while, and then carried her into the bathroom.

After washing her face, brushing her teeth, and applying lotion, Ye Li felt as though she had just run three kiloters.

Suddenly rembering she had promised to play with Xiao Bao, Ye Li abruptly looked up, "Where’s Xiao Bao?"

"Grandmother had soone take him back."

Discovering Xiao Bao was missing, the entire Ye Family ho had been turned upside down.

Old Mrs. Fu nearly had a heart attack.

Upon learning that Ye Li had mistakenly thought it was Xiao Bao who had fallen into Bing Lake and had jumped in after him, Old Mrs. Fu wanted to co over imdiately but was stopped by Fu Yanci.

Yesterday, upon learning that Ye Li had co down with a fever again, Old Mrs. Fu sent a driver over with a load of food and drinks, and also took Xiao Bao back, insisting that Fu Yanci take good care of Ye Li.

Thinking of the phone call with his grandmother, saying how he didn’t know what good deeds he had done in his past life to be blessed with such a good wife as Xiao Li.

Fu Yanci smiled with amusent in his eyes and ruffled the girl’s hair, "Just lie down. I’ll bring sothing up for you to eat."

Ye Li nodded obediently.

Fu Yanci returned quickly with a tray in his hand, a bowl of nourishing chicken strip porridge, and a few side dishes of red, green, yellow, and white.

Ye Li, who had thought she had no appetite, suddenly felt her mouth water.

"You can tell at a glance that Aunt Lan made this..."

Ye Li wiped her hands, and while eating, she said, "When I was little and couldn’t eat because I was sick, it was always Aunt Lan and Mom who cooked. Aunt Lan made the dishes, Mom made the porridge. Later on, the porridge Aunt Lan made tasted just like Mom’s. And Mom learned to cook Aunt Lan’s signature dishes."

Fu Yanci laughed, "Did you often get sick when you were little?"

Ye Li paused and a hint of embarrassnt showed, "Not often sick. But when I was a child... I was too mischievous!"

From primary school to high school, Ye Li attended exclusive schools.

By day, she studied everything seriously, from Western and Eastern cultures to music and the fine arts.

After school, she’d join boys skateboarding and doing BMX tricks in the playground, fence and shoot in the gym, even horse-riding at the track.

It wasn’t an overzealous rush of excitent that sent her flying off a horse and breaking an arm.

It was a re lack of skill that led to her twisting an ankle after falling from a skateboard.

Frequent injuries.

Knowing nothing of Ye Li’s childhood, just hearing about it Fu Yanci could imagine the lively, quirky young girl and couldn’t help but laugh, "Didn’t your father discipline you?"

"There’s a saying in my family!"

Ye Li said with animated eyebrows, "Happiness above all else!"

Dad would say, a little injury doesn’t matter, what’s important is to be happy.

Mom would first wince in pain, then sigh, and when she spoke, she always admonished Ye Li to be more careful, even more careful.

Even if Ye Li ca ho bruised and battered next ti, they never forbade her from playing this or that.

The thought of that ho always brought an unstoppable smile to her face, and as she smiled, she suddenly rembered her father was no longer there, her mother was sick, and she could never go back.

Ye Li hung her head, tears falling heavily.
