After listening to Peng Rui’s tearful complaints, Peng Hui was filled with righteous indignation, her face turning bright red, standing stunned for quite a while without saying a word.
Peng Rui said that a few days ago Sun Yingyu suddenly ca ho in a fit of rage, questioning her why she had posted on the internet, and forcing her to delete it imdiately.
Peng Rui only realized afterwards, after seeing the post, that Sun Yingyu had misunderstood her as the one who posted online accusing him of secretly keeping a woman outside, and it took quite so ti to figure out the whole story.
Peng Rui choked up and said, "He wants to divorce , what should I do?"
Peng Hui’s expression was complicated and difficult to read for a mont, angrily saying, "If he wants a divorce, then divorce! Sis, why are you still with such a man? His heart is no longer with you; he has a woman outside behind your back, even if you stay with him, it won’t last!"
Peng Rui said helplessly and desperately, "I can’t divorce. This house was bought before we got married. If we divorce, I get nothing. He must have already transferred all the family money away."
Peng Hui looked shocked and surprised: "He cheats and still wants you to leave without a penny?"
Peng Rui, teary-eyed, said, "I absolutely must not divorce, or I’ll lose everything."
Peng Hui couldn’t believe it, growling softly, "Sun Yingyu, that son of a bitch! He’s simply scum!"
Peng Rui was crying as if the sky was falling, while Peng Hui was anxious and could only incoherently comfort her. Once Peng Rui’s emotions stabilized, Peng Hui called in cleaners to tidy up the house. The previously elegantly decorated living room was missing the coffee table, the TV screen shattered, and the wall decorations removed, looking particularly desolate.
That day Peng Hui took Zhao ii and Qian Sing downstairs, muttering, her mind in a ss.
Zhao ii held her, concerned, asking, "Are you okay?"
Peng Hui shook her head, her teeth biting her lower lip, her thin lips pressed into a line, and after a long pause, she said, "Don’t worry, I’ll stay to keep my sister company, you guys should head back, and take care on your way ho."
With a heavy heart, Peng Hui said goodbye and left.
Qian Sing hooked her arm around Zhao ii’s, asking, "ii, have you seen the post Peng Hui’s sister talked about?"
Zhao ii shook her head; she had no habit of browsing forums.
That afternoon when she got ho, Zhao ii quickly opened her computer, searched the provincial forum, and the post Peng Rui ntioned about the affair was no longer among the popular ones. She then searched on Baidu and found the reposted version of the original post.
Looking at the few photos she had taken herself, Zhao ii imdiately understood everything.
She stared at the computer screen for a full half minute, her chest heaving violently, breathing rapidly as she searched for her phone to call Peng Hui.
The phone rang for quite a while before being answered.
Zhao ii, without waiting for Peng Hui’s response, anxiously asked, "What are you up to?"
Peng Hui paused for a mont before responding, "What’s the matter?"
Zhao ii said, "Find sowhere convenient, I have sothing to ask you."
After a while, Peng Hui’s voice ca back on, "What is it? Go ahead."
Zhao ii gripped her phone so tightly that her fingertips were faintly blue and white: "Peng Hui, the photos on the post are the ones I took before... Did you know about this?"
Peng Hui took a deep breath and said, "I asked that senior brother from the computer science departnt who chased in my third year to help post the thread. I wrote the content, and initially posted it in the form of a complaint on Sun Yingyu’s company website. It didn’t stay up for long before it got hacked. That senior suggested we post it on the forums of cities where they have branches."
"Sun Yingyu must have been cornered, which is why he ca back to divorce my sister."
"A man like that, staying with him would be torturous for my sister. The earlier the divorce, the earlier she’ll be liberated."
"I did this because I wanted to force my sister to leave this bastard. You have no idea how he usually treats my sister; at ho, she’s like a maid, with no status or voice."
When Peng Hui said these words, she did so without hesitation, with rapid fire conviction, each word and sentence spoken with gritted teeth and firm resolve.
"I have to force my sister to leave him. Otherwise, her whole life would be ruined."
Peng Hui returned to the dormitory at school the next morning, a phone call bringing Zhao ii back as well.
Peng Hui’s eyes were swollen, her face looking very weary.
Qian Sing, completely clueless about what was going on, worriedly asked, "Peng Hui, is your sister okay now? Don’t be sad anymore; maybe your brother-in-law was just mad at that mont, and in a couple of days, he’ll calm down."
Peng Hui didn’t say a word, silently leaning against her study chair.
Last night, Peng Rui held Peng Hui and cried for half the night. It was then Peng Hui found out that her sister had long been aware of Sun Yingyu’s womanizing outside; this woman was not his first, there had been two others before. Peng Rui initially tried to stir up trouble, but Sun Yingyu’s cold threat of divorce scared her into submission.
Peng Rui hadn’t seriously worked since graduating college; her previous job was found with Sun Yingyu’s help, but she resigned within a month due to the inability to adapt to the environnt.
Peng Rui initially chose Sun Yingyu because she saw the favorable conditions of his family, and he himself was quite capable with promising prospects as long as he brought money ho every month, supporting her leisure life, and she could turn a blind eye to everything else and let go.
For a mont, Peng Hui’s face froze—it was hard to tell if it was anger or frustration; she simply listened silently to her sister’s heartfelt words, feeling as if her own heart was being shattered by them.
Peng Hui suddenly interrupted her sister’s lant, unable to describe her own feelings at that mont, shouted, "Sis! Are you crazy? For the sake of such little money, you sold your dignity and personality! Are you content to live your life with such scum?"
Peng Rui scread at Peng Hui in desperation, "What else can I do? I can’t find a job to support myself; I don’t want to live a hard life, I’ve had enough! Have you forgotten what kind of life we lived when we were young?"
Peng Hui’s mind was completely muddled; she never thought that their family lived in poverty.
Their parents used to work in a factory, and after the factory was bought out, they started a business themselves, selling cold drinks in sumr, socks and gloves in winter, pushing a small cart, and going to the market every Friday.
Later, when Peng Rui was in junior high, their mother suddenly fell seriously ill, and the burden fell to their father, who learned to drive and later worked as a taxi driver.
But no matter how poor or hard tis got, their parents never treated them badly. Peng Hui couldn’t understand how her sister’s disdain for poverty and yearning for wealth developed or how it ford!
