Chapter 86: Chapter 86: A Life-Saving Grace, Impossible to Repay_1
Lin Xiaoyu gazed at the suddenly appeared black cat, his surprise evident. He turned towards Qin Sisi and asked, "What is this...?"
Qin Sisi composed herself, speaking in a steady tone, "You should have heard that black cats are spiritual creatures. It is my spirit pet. I need its help to catch ghosts, but pets are not allowed on trains, so I had to... resort to this."
Qin Sisi gave an awkward laugh. After all, she had broken so rules no matter how you looked at it. Then she continued, "That female ghost who hard you, she has already been apprehended by my spirit pet."
Lin Xiaoyu stared, flabbergasted at Qin Sisi. After a long pause, it seed he finally made up his mind and loudly stated, "Alright, I believe you. Co with ."
Qin Sisi was taken aback, she didn’t expect Lin Xiaoyu to be so agreeable all of a sudden. She thought he would press her further with questions.
The two of them exited the train station one after the other. At the entrance, they hailed a taxi, and Lin Xiaoyu gave an address.
Twenty minutes later, the taxi stopped in front of a large stone arch.
After they got out of the car, Lin Xiaoyu pointed to the white stone archway and said to Qin Sisi, "This is the entrance to our village."
Qin Sisi looked up. The top of the arch showcased intricate engravings of two dragons playing with a pearl. Above that, was the na of the village - Lao Niu Gou, engraved in large bold red letters.
There was so distance left to Lin Xiaoyu’s house. The village was crisscrossed with uphill and downhill pathways which the car couldn’t navigate, thus they had to walk.
Though the mountain path was sowhat difficult to traverse, Lin Xiaoyu, having grown up there, was quite used to it, despite moving to the big city for work.
Qin Sisi, on the other hand, found it challenging. Even though she was wearing flat shoes, constantly moving up and down was tiring, especially for soone accustod to walking on flat ground.
Lin Xiaoyu slowed down his pace on purpose, occasionally glancing at Qin Sisi and, at tis, at the black cat she referred to as her spirit pet.
When they arrived at Lin Xiaoyu’s ho, dawn was just breaking. The main door was wide open and a few figures could be seen in the courtyard.
Noticing Lin Xiaoyu’s return, soone called out to him. While responding, Lin Xiaoyu hurriedly went into the house, followed closely by Qin Sisi.
Inside, on the clay-built bed platform, a woman in her fifties was seated, crying and raucously venting her spleen.
Surrounding her, three or four people stood, their faces showcasing a hint of fear, unable to approach her.
Without any delay, Lin Xiaoyu went over to her, grabbing her arm, and called out, "Mother."
Mother Lin pushed him away as if she didn’t recognize her own son. She possessedsurprisingly strong strength, pushing Lin Xiaoyu onto the floor.
Everyone scrambled to help Lin Xiaoyu up, looking utterly helpless and uneasy as they kept their eyes on a wailing Mother Lin.
Qin Sisi didn’t quite understand the local dialect. After mulling over it for a while, she gathered that it seed to be an accusation against her children for not respecting her, not offering her tributes, and leaving her to starve until dizzy.
Qin Sisi turned to Lin Xiaoyu and asked, "How long has she been like this?"
Lin Xiaoyu thought for a mont before answering, "Approximately ten days."
Qin Sisi asked again, "Do you rember how it all started?"
Lin Xiaoyu looked at a woman in her thirties standing near him and said, "Sis, why don’t you tell her."
Then, Lin Xiaoyu introduced her to Qin Sisi, "This is my sister, Lin Xiaofang."
Lin Xiaofang looked quizzically at Qin Sisi, but out of respect for her brother, she answered seriously, "That evening, Mother went to the field. The field is quite far from here, adjacent to the graveyard of the neighboring village. Usually, after sundown, people don’t go there. But who knows why, Mother insisted on going there. Since then, she started acting strange. She seems fine during the day, but at night, she’s uncontrollable. She caused so much disturbance that the neighbors could not get a good night’s sleep. That’s why we called Xiaoyu to co back."
Lin Xiaoyu chid in, "I took Mother to the hospital and stayed for a few days. She was pretty quiet there. I thought she was better."
Confused about Qin Sisi’s identity, Lin Xiaofang quietly asked her brother sothing.
Lin Xiaoyu whispered into his sister’s ear. Instantly, Lin Xiaofang’s expression changed. Although still startled, she looked at Qin Sisi with great respect.
Worried, Lin Xiaoyu turned to Qin Sisi and asked, "Sisi, can you help?"
Qin Sisi replied, "Let
try."
Qin Sisi picks up Ye You, lightly pinched his back, and then tossed Ye You towards Mother Lin.
Seeing Qin Sisi’s actions, everyone was shocked. Mother Lin, who was in the middle of her clamor, was taken aback by the sudden arrival of the black cat.
Displaying agility, Ye You swung one of his paws towards Mother Lin’s face, its golden claws leaving shimring streaks in the air.
Then, right before everyone’s eyes, a black smoke erged from Mother Lin’s head.
Swiftly, Ye You leaped towards the black smoke, swiped gently with his paw, and the black smoke imdiately disappeared without a trace.
Ye You landed delicately on the platform bed and swiftly turned to leap back into Qin Sisi’s arms while wagging its tail, letting out a soft "ow".
Everyone present was awestruck, their mouths agape as they looked at Qin Sisi and the black cat in her arms.
Mother Lin, exhausted after the prolonged ruckus, and the sudden departure of the ghost, fainted from fatigue on the platform bed.
Lin Xiaoyu and Lin Xiaofang rushed over to lay down Mother Lin properly and expressed their thanks to Qin Sisi.
Qin Sisi said, "There’s no need to thank . She’s very weak right now and needs plenty of rest. When she wakes up, make sure she eats a lot. Additionally, her Ba Zi is rather weak. As she ages, her Yang energy will dwindle. You need to keep her from places with excessive Yin energy in the future."
Naturally, both Lin Xiaoyu and Lin Xiaofang promised gratefully.
As the spectators gradually dispersed, Qin Sisi exited the house. She looked up at the newly risen sun towards the east. The sunlight was gentle, bright but not blinding.
After a short while, Lin Xiaoyu ca out too and stood next to Qin Sisi. He said, "I know you must have heard this a lot, but I still want to say it one more ti. Thank you."
Qin Sisi smiled and said, "Alright, I will accept your gratitude."
Lin Xiaoyu was quiet for a mont before saying, "I feel, it seems we have quite a fate. When my life was in danger, you ca like a fairy from heaven to save . Now, you’ve saved my mother."
Qin Sisi replied gently, "I’ve already explained, it was a re coincidence. I couldn’t leave you to your plight."
"Well..." Lin Xiaoyu stuttered, then said in a low voice, "There’s no way to repay a life-saving favor, but..."
Upon hearing these familiar phrases often used in novels, Qin Sisi was shocked and looked at Lin Xiaoyu in surprise.
Finally, Lin Xiaoyu said those last few words, "How about... marriage?"
