Chapter 697: Chapter 697: Act Bravely for a Just Cause_1

Qin Sisi paid no mind to the long sighs and grumblings of the shopkeeper. She promptly stored away the Lovesick Jade Pillow, and dashed out the store, chasing after the direction the elder man had left in.

She had heard the shopkeeper whispering to the sales clerk earlier, and Qin Sisi speculated that they bore a grudge against the old man, plotting revenge against him.

The shopkeeper and his cohorts were all locals; they would have no trouble hiring so thugs. The old man, being elderly and from out of town, would certainly be at a disadvantage if they set their sights on him.

Qin Sisi scanned her surroundings as she walked briskly along. She saw no trace of the old man in the shops lining both sides of the street. She continued straight down the road, gradually leaving the bustling alleyway and entering a large, open square.

Her vision grew clearer. Although it was almost seven in the evening, the sky was still pretty bright.

Qin Sisi held Ye You in her arms, anxiously looking from left to right until she finally spotted the old man’s figure near the periter of the square. He walked with slow, asured steps, carrying a black shoulder bag. His slender silhouette seed sowhat lonely under the setting sun.

Qin Sisi let out a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to catch up with him, several burly n appeared in front of the old man, blocking his path.

Darn it!

Qin Sisi cursed silently and imdiately broke into a sprint towards the old man.

Amidst the whistling wind, the old man’s voice faintly drifted over, "What do you want?"

One of the n, the tallest and largest of them all, stepped forward with an intimidating expression and roared, "Old man, this is what you get for sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong!"

With that, he raised his hefty fist and swung it at the old man’s face.

"Solid as Golden Soup!" Crying out in a rush, Qin Sisi charged in front of the old man. Her magic sprang to life and created a semi-transparent shield between her and the old man.

The glowing shield was tinged with black. Under the sunlight, it shimred with a dimly sparkling reflection.

The man’s heavy punch landed squarely on the shield that Qin Sisi had conjured. He froze mid-motion, the scene eerily silent. For that brief mont, ti seed to stand still.

Qin Sisi watched the man intently, observing his reaction, unsure to what extent her Shield could protect them.

The man however, was gaping at the seemingly invisible shield in front of him, his face a mixture of disbelief and perplexity.

The next second, a pained grunt echoed from his throat. He bent over and cradled the hand that had hit the shield, grimacing in agony, his features contorted with pain.

He was supposed to hit a person, how co he couldn’t make the hit and was blocked by the air instead? It felt as if he had just punched a hard iron plate.

The bones in his hand jutting out painfully from the reaction force, the agonizing pain so intense it seed to be numbing his hand.

The n behind him were taken aback by the scene, their mouths agape in surprise - What was their leader doing? Acting? And who was the girl that had suddenly appeared with a black cat on her shoulder?

While holding in his pain and panting, the group’s leader managed to turn his head and yell at his subordinates, "What are you all waiting for? Get them!"

His subordinates snapped back to reality and rushed forward. What was there to fear from an elderly man and a woman?

However, not long after, they realized they had underestimated the duo. Their punches, without exception, all landed on the shield that had been ford by Solid as Golden Soup, and they soon followed in the leader’s footsteps, all crying out in pain and clutching their fists.

The last man, slower than the others, had seen what was about to happen and wisely stopped his attack, thus avoiding the fate of his peers.

Thinking quickly, he ran to one side, picked up a stone, and hurled it at them. The stone was deflected to the ground, and although it didn’t break the shield, he at least ca out of it unscathed.

He picked up another stone and repeated his action.

The others seed to have gotten the idea and mimicked him. Ignoring their pain, they also began to pelt Qin Sisi with stones.

After enduring a succession of stone attacks, the Solid as Golden Soup shield began to develop small cracks.

Qin Sisi frowned slightly, her gaze falling on the man who had attacked first. To catch a thief, catch the leader first. It would be him

She took a deep breath, drawing upon her magic power and activating the water attribute within her Magic Source. Silently chanting a spell, she pushed out with her right hand and shouted, "Water Binding Skill!"

A light blue glow shot out, separating in mid-air into nurous thin rays of light that tightly bound the man.

"What? Why can’t I move?" The man cried out in alarm.

"Fire Ignition Skill!" Qin Sisi didn’t stop, casting another spell—this ti from Fire Attribute Magic.

She didn’t want to escalate the conflict, so she refrained from using more powerful spells like the Fireball Technique or Fire Bomb

Unable to move due to the binding spell, and with his clothes slowly catching fire, the sight scared the man, turning his face ashen. He cried out for help.

After leveling up her magic, the duration of Qin Sisi’s Water Binding Skill had extended to twenty seconds. While not a long period, it was plenty to give the man a taste of his own dicine.

Seeing their leader in such a state, his subordinates imdiately ceased their stone attack on Qin Sisi and rushed to help him extinguish the fire on his clothes.

Using this chaotic opportunity, Qin Sisi walked over and assisted the old man, "Sir, let’s go quickly!"

The old man glanced at Qin Sisi with a complex look, softly nodding, "Yes."

The two quickly moved towards the edge of the square.

After exiting the square, they hailed a taxi by the roadside. Qin Sisi asked for the hotel the old man was staying, and relayed the na to the taxi driver.

The driver gave a nod and started the car.

Qin Sisi turned back towards the old man, noticing his pallor. Concerned, she asked, "Sir, are you alright?"

The old man gave a wry smile and answered, "I’m fine, thank you, young lady."

Qin Sisi sighed heavily, "Who would have thought that they’d be so bold to do it in broad daylight!"

The old man calmly responded, "Every crowd has its black sheep. But on the whole, the social environnt in A City is quite good."

Seeing the old man’s composed deanor, unaffected by the near attack earlier, Qin Sisi too decided not to dwell on it any longer. She asked reverently, "Sir, may I ask what do you do?"

The old man didn’t shy away and answered directly, "I’m a retired history professor at XX University. I’ve co to see the great, picturesque landscapes of our country while I still can. A City is one of our country’s most famous cultural capitals, and I’ve been here quite a few tis."

Everything clicked for Qin Sisi, so he was a university history professor; no wonder he knew so much about historical secrets.
