Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Old Case_1
Ning Hao led Qin Sisi into a room and sat across from her at a desk. He prepared to take out a pen and a notebook, his expression was serious. He said to Qin Sisi, "Qin Sisi, I have a few questions for you, and I hope you answer them truthfully."
"Okay," Qin Sisi replied, rembering how similar this situation was to the first ti she t Ning Hao due to the incident involving Wang Ji’an.
Ning Hao began the interrogation: "Why did you go to Xiyuan Park?"
Following what Ye You previously instructed her, Qin Sisi began to calmly respond, "Yesterday was Sunday, I originally wanted to take my cat to the pet hospital. But when passing by Xiyuan Park, it suddenly jumped out and ran in. I had no choice but to follow."
This was Ye You’s idea - to attribute matters that couldn’t be clarified to the cat that couldn’t explain itself. No one could prove that what she was saying was true, but no one could disprove it either.
However, the existence of a pet hospital near Xiyuan Park was indeed true. Since Xiao Hei stayed at Qin Sisi’s house, he would often venture out to familiarize himself with the surroundings when she was at work. He had morized all the nearby streets, and the outline of S City was practically ford in his mind.
"Is it this cat?" Ning Hao’s questioning gaze fell on Ye You, his eyes deep and unreadable. He had always been indifferent about pets, so he didn’t pay much attention to the cat that Qin Sisi had been holding. However, since the occurrence at hand seed to be caused by this cat, he couldn’t help but take a closer look. Furthermore, the incident with Wang Ji’an also seed to have a connection with a cat.
Qin Sisi nodded, "Yes."
Seeing Ning Hao’s ambiguous gaze, Qin Sisi felt sowhat nervous. She wondered if a police officer’s professional sensitivity would detect Ye You’s uniqueness.
As it turned out, Qin Sisi was worried over nothing. Ning Hao’s gaze only lingered on Ye You for a mont before he drew it back and continued to ask Qin Sisi, "Have you heard about the ghost incidents at Xiyuan Park?"
Caught off guard by Ning Hao’s question, Qin Sisi paused before answering, "I’ve heard of it."
A playful sparkle twinkled in Ning Hao’s eye as he remarked, "You still dared to go in there alone? Quite courageous!"
A tight feeling ford in Qin Sisi’s heart. She felt as if there was more to Ning Hao’s words. She laughed unnaturally, "I would definitely be scared at night, but during the day, it’s not so bad."
Ning Hao lowered his eyelids, concealing his emotions, then continued his questioning, "How did you co across this backpack?"
Qin Sisi let out a silent sigh of relief and answered with the response she had thought up earlier, "I followed it into the park, and after it wandered around a bit, it darted into a bush and started digging. I called out to it, but it didn’t listen. After a while, part of the backpack’s strap appeared from under the dirt. I thought it was strange, so I helped it dig out the backpack."
"Why did you think to bring it to the police station?" This was Ning Hao’s next question.
Qin Sisi casually replied, "Coincidentally, as I was about to leave, a gust of wind blew a piece of paper to . I noticed that the picture of the backpack on the paper looked similar to the one I’d just found, so I felt sothing was wrong."
Ning Hao nodded slightly, temporarily ceasing his questioning.
Qin Sisi secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She was sweating lightly due to nervousness. Despite her outward calm, dealing with the police was quite nerve-wracking.
Ning Hao wrote quick notes in his notebook and had Qin Sisi review them and fill in her na.
Finally, Ning Hao said, "Thank you for cooperating with us. I will notify the family to co here to identify. Please leave your phone number. I will contact you if needed."
Qin Sisi provided her phone number.
Ye You peeked out and glared at Ning Hao. Just like that, he obtained Qin Sisi’s phone number quite easily. Even though Ye You knew this might be part of Ning Hao’s protocol, he felt uncomfortable about it.
After seeing Ning Hao saving her number, Qin Sisi stood up and said, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave first." She was really tense and couldn’t wait to leave.
Ning Hao also stood up, "Alright, let
see you out."
Before Qin Sisi could decline, Ning Hao had already walked over to open the door for her. With no other choice, Qin Sisi thanked him before leaving with Ye You.
When they reached the entrance, Qin Sisi turned to say "Goodbye" before preparing to leave. But just afew steps out, Ning Hao’s voice stopped her, "Wait a mont."
Qin Sisi stopped abruptly and turned back sowhat stiffly, "Is there sothing else?" Xiao Hei in her arms also lifted his head, his purple eyes watching Ning Hao warily.
A glint flashed through Ning Hao’s eyes, but he asked calmly, "I’m just wondering, what else can you recall about the incident involving Wang Ji’an?"
Qin Sisi shook her head, "I’m sorry, everything I know, I already said."
Ning Hao nodded, "Alright, that’s all then. Goodbye."
Qin Sisi gave Ning Hao one last glance before turning to leave again. However, she felt tense all the way until she had turned a corner and was completely out of Ning Hao’s line of sight.
"Don’t worry, nothing will happen." Feeling Qin Sisi’s nervousness, Ye You softly comforted her while she carried him in her arms.
"I hope so." Being in such a tense situation, Qin Sisi didn’t know what might happen next. All she could do now was to compose herself and quickly head ho.
Ning Hao stood in the sa spot until he could no longer see Qin Sisi. He remained there at the entrance of the police station for a long ti.
His professional instincts told him that Qin Sisi was likely hiding sothing. Despite her effort to appear natural, he caught the stiff expression and flickering gaze she had whenever Wang Ji’an’s na was ntioned.
What was she hiding though? Wang Ji’an was injured by a cat, was it connected to her cat? There’s sothing unique about her cat’s eyes, but after all, it’s just a cat. It shouldn’t be capable of doing anything extraordinary.
Ning Hao lowered his gaze, recalling the pink backpack in their office. His mory was good, and even though it had been two years since that case, it was still clear in his mind. That was the first case he worked on after graduating and joining the police force. The case wasn’t complicated -- the police force put a lot of effort into it, but they couldn’t find the person.
After a long while, Ning Hao looked up and took a deep breath. The appearance of the backpack was a clear turning point. It was ti to close this case, and it should give the family so closure.
Two days later, Ning Hao called Qin Sisi and asked her to co to the police station the next morning. Naturally, Qin Sisi agreed, but the thought of having to take leave from work again gave her a headache.
