Chapter 45: Chapter 45 The Mystery of Xiyuan Park_1
On this dark and windy night, Qin Sisi walked cautiously forward under the faint light of the Ziwei Heaven Fire, her hand tightly gripping the jet-black Divine Dog’s Fury. In the vast Xiyuan Park, the only sounds were the eerie crying and her own footsteps on fallen leaves.
The crying sound beca clearer and clearer, and Qin Sisi suddenly realized that the crying did not seem to co from an adult, but rather, from a child.
Curiosity gradually overca her fear, Qin Sisi continued her pace and eventually reached a small deep in the trees with Ye You. The eerie crying sounded as if it was right by her side.
At this mont, Ye You threw the Ziwei Heaven Fire onto a leaning tree branch. A burst of purple light flashed by swiftly. Silently, a clump of purple fla was burning on the leaning branch, much larger and far brighter than the fla in Ye You’s hand.
Ye You extinguished the Ziwei Heaven Fire in his hand and, along with Qin Sisi, looked around at their surroundings. Under the light of the purple flas, every blade of grass and every tree around them beca clear.
They were at the deepest part of Xiyuan Park, in a small forest composed of poplar and pagoda trees. If it were a hot sumr day, this place would be a cool and refreshing canopy of green. But at this mont, with a cold wind passing through and a thick layer of fallen leaves under Qin Sisi’s feet, it seed like even sanitation workers didn’t want to co here.
Following the direction of the crying, Qin Sisi took a few steps forward and suddenly saw a little girl in a white blouse and blue skirt sitting under a tree with a patchy bark, her head lowered, crying sorrowfully.
The little girl seed to be about eight or nine years old. She had a pretty face, made all the more pitiful by the tears.
The crying had been terrifying, but now that they could see the source, it was not so scary -- especially since it was such an adorable little girl.
Qin Sisi felt a tug at her heartstrings, and she wanted to approach and soothe the girl. Then she rembered what Ye You had told her earlier, that the crying was not from a human. So she stopped and watched the little girl carefully. Under the light of the Ziwei Heaven Fire, indeed, no shadow appeared beneath the little girl.
So, was she a ghost that only belonged to the night?
Even though she was prepared for it, upon confirming it, Sisi’s heart still pounded uncontrollably. Why did such a young child, just like a blooming bud, lose her life and beco a lonely ghost? Was it an accident or...
Qin Sisi took a deep breath, brushed aside her chaotic thoughts, and cautiously moved a little closer. She bent down slightly and asked softly, "Little girl, why are you crying here?"
Hearing Qin Sisi’s words, the little girl looked surprised. She raised her head, her little face still wet with teardrops. Her large eyes blinked twice. Then, after looking at Qin Sisi for a mont without speaking, she glanced over at Ye You and suddenly giggled, "I’ve seen this black cat before. It can do magic."
Qin Sisi looked surprised. She glanced at Ye You, then turned back to the little girl and asked, "You’ve seen him? When?"
The little girl tilted her head and thought about it for a mont, then answered, "One night, it used magic to throw a man over here. The man had a lot of scratch marks on him like a cat had scratched him."
Qin Sisi shuddered. Could it have been Wang Ji’an?
To confirm, Qin Sisi asked again, "How do you know the scratches on him were from a cat?"
Looking slightly smug, the little girl boasted, "Because we have a cat at ho, too. His na is Da Hua. I play with him every day, so I can tell."
Seeing the little girl’s self-confident manner, Qin Sisi was almost sure that the man the girl had ntioned was indeed Wang Ji’an. It seed that it was Ye You who had brought him here. But how on earth had he gone mad?
With curiosity in her mind, Qin Sisi continued to question the girl, "What happened to that man afterwards?"
The little girl answered crisply, "At first he kept fainting and didn’t move at all. But he woke up in the middle of the night. Then I talked to him for a bit, and he fainted again, huhuhu."
Qin Sisi asked curiously, "What on earth did you say to him?"
With a smile, the little girl responded, "I said, ’Uncle, I can’t find my shadow. Can you help
look for it?’"
After the little girl finished speaking, she broke into a giggle. Her laughter was as clear as a silver bell, yet it carried with it a creepiness that couldn’t be ignored.
If this was indeed the case, Wang Ji’an was first scared by a group of cats, then woke up to realize he was alone in a deserted park in the dark with a shadowless little ghost girl appearing out of nowhere. The fragile nerves of the man simply couldn’t withstand such repeated shocks, hence he went mad.
Qin Sisi turned to Ye You, "Do you think she’s telling the truth?"
Ye You replied, "She should be." Indeed, it was he who had brought Wang Ji’an here, and what happened afterward, even if he didn’t see it for himself, was within his calculations.
Qin Sisi continued to press, "Why did you bring Wang Ji’an here?"
Ye You chuckled and answered, "Because there is a ghost here!"
In the early days of living at Qin Sisi’s house, when she was at work during the day, Ye You would wander around to familiarize himself with the surroundings and look for ghosts. He detected the presence of a ghost in Xiyuan Park and initially intended to keep it temporarily, but later realized that he couldn’t communicate with normal ghosts and that even if he could catch it, he wouldn’t be able to acquire Soul Power. Instead, it would serve as a better exercise if he brings Qin Sisi along next ti.
Qin Sisi gave Ye You a speechless look. Ye You felt her gaze and couldn’t help but lower his voice, "Qin Sisi, you’re not feeling sorry for that scumbag, are you?"
Raising an eyebrow, Qin Sisi replied, "Do you think that’s possible? I just think what you did... was absolutely right."
Having said that, Qin Sisi smiled, her eyes shimring like two autumn waters, radiant and devoid of any heaviness.
Ye You let out a sigh of relief. Being kind was good, but it needed to co with an edge. Too much of a good thing was not good. Excessive kindness can beco naive, even foolish. If Qin Sisi was overly kind, it would be extrely detrintal to her future developnt. Fortunately, she had a good sense of balance.
Qin Sisi’s focus shifted back to the little girl, and she asked softly, "Little girl, what’s your na?"
While blinking her eyes at Qin Sisi, the little girl answered in a charming tone, "I’m Xiao Dan. Sister, why did you co here?"
Qin Sisi thought for a mont and responded, "I ca to find you. Can you tell
why you are here?"
Indeed, Qin Sisi was very anxious to uncover the mystery of why this eight-or-nine-year-old little girl lost her life.
