Chapter 277: Chapter 277: Death Doesn’t Prove Innocence_1
The girl’s ghost gradually drifted towards Chen Lan, standing beside her. Silently, a pale, icy hand laid itself atop of Chen Lan’s head.
Ti trickled by. Once again, the cruel image of the bloody dusk intruded Chen Lan’s dreams. The girl’s decisive leap, her despairing cries toward the heavens, and the mournful sight of blood covering the ground...
The hour hand, minute hand, and second hand of the clock, after chasing one another, finally aligned exactly at midnight.
With a start, Chen Lan sat up in her bed, shouting into the darkness, "Sisi, Sisi, where are you? Co quickly!"
Just an ordinary person, Chen Lan, of course, couldn’t see the virtual body of the ghostly girl, but the girl could see Chen Lan’s movents and hear her voice.
Hearing Chen Lan calling out, the girl looked puzzled - there wasn’t anyone else in the room. Who was Chen Lan calling?
Before she could react, a golden light rushed from behind her. By the ti she sensed sothing off, it was too late.
With a shriek, the girl found herself tightly bound by the Vajra Bundling Spirit Rope.
Ye You quickly extinguished the Ziwei Heaven Fire and dispelled the Invisible Bubble.
Qin Sisi quickly headed to the door and turned on the lights.
As the room was bathed in bright light, Chen Lan’s fear started to subside.
"Sisi, that nightmare ca again." Chen Lan said to Qin Sisi, her face even paler.
Qin Sisi said nothing, she walked to the window, picked up Chen Lan’s glasses from the bedside cabinet and tried to avoid Chen Lan’s gaze while handing the glasses to Ye You.
Ye You quickly blinked the glasses and two pale, purple lights shot from the corners of his eyes, landing on the clear lenses.
Qin Sisi turned around and handed the eyeglasses to Chen Lan, saying, "Try the glasses on."
Chen Lan looked puzzled. What did her nightmare have to do with her wearing glasses?
Even though she didn’t understand Qin Sisi’s reason, Chen Lan obediently put on the glasses.
The eyeglasses, now invested with spiritual power by Ye You, allowed Chen Lan a temporary ability to see and communicate with the virtual body of a ghost.
So, when Chen Lan saw the girl in front of her, bound by a golden, shimring rope, she couldn’t help but scream again.
Qin Sisi had anticipated Chen Lan’s reaction; anyone would be scared at the sudden appearance of a dead person right before them.
Chen leaned back against the head of the bed, stamring, "Are... are you a human or a ghost?"
The girl had been struggling hard to free herself from the Vajra Bundling Spirit Rope, but at hearing Chen Lan’s questions and seeing the look in her eyes, she stopped. With a mix of surprise and joy, she looked at Chen Lan and said, "Teacher Chen, can you see ?"
Chen Lan’s expression changed several tis before she finally managed to utter, "Zhou Zing, aren’t you dead?"
The young girl before her was none other than Zhou Zing, who had committed suicide by jumping off a building two months ago.
Qin Sisi, standing on the other side of the bed, spoke with a clear and calm voice, "She’s indeed dead. What you see is her ghost, or as we commonly say, a spirit."
With the truth unveiled by Qin Sisi, Chen Lan’s scalp tingled, her body turned cold. She never thought she would see a ghost in her lifeti.
Zhou Zing reacted to Qin Sisi’s explanation and angrily yelled at her, "Did you bind ? Who are you? Let
go!"
Qin Sisi glanced at Zhou Zing, spoke flatly, "I am a mage, hired by your Teacher Chen. You’ve been tornting her with nightmares, keeping her awake. She asked for my help to see who’s trying to hurt her."
Guilt flashed across Zhou Zing’s face as she quickly addressed Chen Lan, "Teacher Chen, I’m sorry. I didn’t an to hurt you or tornt you. I just... I just..."
Seeing Zhou Zing’s mannerism similar to her previous existence, Chen Lan was convinced that she was indeed Zhou Zing.
With Qin Sisi’s calm deanor sans fear or surprise, Chen Lan also felt reassured.
Seeing Zhou Zing apologizing to her, Chen Lan took a deep breath and softly said, "Zhou Zing, if you have sothing to say, just say it. If there’s anything you want
to help with, and if it’s within my power, I’ll do my best."
Gazing at Chen Lan’s gentle and concerned eyes, Zhou Zing’s expression faltered, and she started to cry, "Teacher Chen, I really didn’t steal Fang Yiyi’s cellphone. I never stole anything, I never did."
Chen Lan sighed with pity, "I also thought the situation was strange, but why did you jump off the building? If you didn’t steal it, we could have figured it out when your horoom teacher arrived. We would have been able to uncover the truth and clear your na. If not, we would have had the police!"
"But... But the phone was found in my bag. Who would have believed ?"?? Tears ran down Zhou Zing’s face as she resigned herself to the belief that no one would trust her.
Chen Lan shook her head, "In this world, there have been countless misidentifications. The police can solve so many intricate murder cases and hunt down the killers, wouldn’t they also be able to solve a simple theft?"
Zhou Zing stubbornly corrected, "It’s not a theft; sobody set
up, sobody deliberately frad ."
Chen Lan amplified her voice, "No matter what the case is, there’s only one truth. The fake remains fake. But with your death, it turned into a cold case, and the truth can never be uncovered. People will only think that you were caught stealing and killed yourself out of sha."
"What?" Zhou Zing gasped, taking a step back, muttering to herself, "How can it be? How can it be?"
In her mind, she had planned to prove her innocence with her death, but now realized that she couldn’t escape being labeled a thief, even after her death.
Although realizing it was too late, Chen Lan still advise emphatically, "Death does not solve problems; your death is not seen as an act to prove your innocence by others, but an escape from guilt. Only by living, can you have a chance to clear your na."
Finally, she sighed deeply, "You, young girl, why are you so disheartened?"
Zhou Zing collapsed to the ground. She hadn’t expected even death couldn’t provide her the innocence she yearned for. Was she destined to shoulder the branding of a thief forever?
Spotting Zhou Zing’s state, Qin Sisi signaled to Ye You, knowing that Zhou wouldn’t try to escape anymore.
Understanding Qin Sisi’s intentions, Ye You waved his claws, and the Vajra Bundling Spirit Rope loosened its grip on Zhou Zing, flying back into Ye You’s hand before disappearing.
