Chapter 13: Chapter 13 The Haunted Xiyuan Park_1

The two officers exchanged glances, and the younger one proceeded to ask more questions about the cat. Qin Sisi answered all of them, feeling as though she hadn’t given away anything unusual.

Finally, the young officer told Qin Sisi, "We’ll leave it at that for now. We’ll contact you if we need anything else. If anything out of the ordinary cos to mind, please inform us as soon as you can."

"Alright," Qin Sisi nodded in agreent, preparing to leave, but hesitated before finally mustering up enough courage to ask, "What...what happened to Manager Wang?"

The two policen exchanged a glance and the older one said, "He was injured and is currently undergoing treatnt in the hospital."

"Injured?" Sisi repeated in surprise. She felt sowhat relieved hearing this. After all, he was just injured. If the police said so, it probably wasn’t life-threatening.

The older officer continued, "We can’t reveal the specifics of the situation right now."

Sisi obediently nodded, "Alright, I understand."

The young officer gentlemanly opened the door, gesturing for her to leave.

After Sisi walked out of the interrogation room, another colleague quickly walked in.

Sisi looked back at the closed door and exhaled a sigh of relief, but as she looked up, she almost jumped in surprise. There was Lin Shan, tilting her head and scratching her ear with one hand, the other rummaging through Qin Sisi’s big backpack.

Oh my God! Xiao Hei was still in there!

Sisi’s heart jumped into her throat as she swiftly rushed over, grabbing Lin Shan’s hand and demanded worriedly, "What are you doing?"

Lin Shan turned around, a puzzled look on her face, "My ear was itching. I was looking for your ear scoop since I forgot to bring mine," she explained, seemingly oblivious to the bombshell within Sisi’s bag.

Sisi ntally breathed a sigh of relief, calmingly replied, "I’ll get it for you."

Lin Shan took her hand out of the bag, staring at Sisi with a perplexed look.

Sisi passed the ear scoop to Lin Shan and tried to joke it off, "What are you looking at? Do I have sothing on my face?"

Lin Shan shook her head, "You seem a bit off."

Sisi pretended to be annoyed, "Of course I am. I had a headache all night because you guys made

drink last night."

"Really?"

"Why wouldn’t it be?" Sisi began tidying the table, surprised at her calm facade in the face of utter panic.

Lin Shan shrugged, no longer interested in Sisi’s irregular behavior, she walked towards the window with her ear scoop.

Only then did Sisi let her guard down, exhaling a long sigh of relief.

The impact of Lin Shan discovering Xiao Hei would be minimal, but if she caused a commotion and the leader got wind of it, that would be trouble, not to ntion the police officers who were still present. They must have noticed the cat scratches and bite marks on Wang Ji’an, hence their questions about having a cat. If they happened to see Xiao Hei at that mont, they might start to suspect him and Sisi.

It didn’t take long for the officers to interrogate everyone who attended the gathering. Sisi wondered whether they managed to find any useful clues. Later, she overheard the police asking about Xiao Liu’s condition. Xiao Liu did not turn up for work that day, and it seed like the officers were planning to visit his house.

Sisi didn’t think much about it, dismissing this as Xiao Liu was unrelated to the incident and therefore, a visit to his house by the officers wouldn’t yield any results.

If Sisi knew that Xiao Liu’s embarrassing behavior last night was actually Xiao Hei’s handiwork, she probably wouldn’t have been so indifferent.

Sisi wasn’t sure how the investigation was going, but the following days passed uneventfully. She went about her usual routine of going to work, coming ho to have dinner with Xiao Hei, reading for a while before going to bed.

She desperately wanted to communicate with Xiao Hei again, hoping that there would be more words on the piece of white paper, but in recent days, Xiao Hei always seed to be napping, largely ignoring her. The piece of paper that once served as a platform for communication now stared back at her as a blank sheet. The black text had sohow disappeared, leaving her staring blankly at the empty sheet. The strange events of the recent past felt like a dream.

A few days later, a piece of news suddenly broke out like a thunderbolt, and spread wildly throughout the company.

Wang Ji’an had lost his mind!

When Lin Shan whispered this news to Sisi, Sisi was in utter disbelief. She knew that Wang Ji’an must have been badly injured, but she never imagined that he’d go insane.

Pleased with Sisi’s reaction, Lin Shan continued in a low voice, "They say he was found in Xiyuan Park. Have you heard anything about it? That park has so issues... "

Sisi furrowed her brow. The "problem" with that park was well-known. Two years ago, a little girl from Xiyuan Elentary School, near Xiyuan Park, disappeared and was never found. Since then, there have been rumors that the cries of a child could be heard in the park at night.

At first, people didn’t pay much attention to the rumors. But eventually, many started noticing that perfectly fine babies would suddenly start crying inconsolably in the park. It seed to indirectly confirm the rumors that the park was haunted.

Gradually, fewer and fewer people visited Xiyuan Park. The elderly residing nearby went in groups for strolls during the day, while sanitation workers went in for cleanup duties, but they would typically leave before dark. Therefore, Xiyuan Park beca desolate and the ghost rumors continued to grow.

But Wang Ji’an’s incident occurred under his own apartnt building, so how did it end up being tied to Xiyuan Park? Could Xiao Hei be responsible?

Recalling Xiao Hei’s words, "I’ve handled everything," Sisi concluded that it must have been Xiao Hei’s doing. But how did he manage it? It seed unlikely for a cat to be able to drive a car.

No matter how Xiao Hei managed it, Sisi had to admit that he handled it well. Could there be a better way to deflect than blaming it on a ghost?

As Sisi got lost in her thoughts, Lin Shan nudged her arm and whispered, "Sisi, do you think ghosts really exist in this world?"

Sisi’s heart skipped a bit, but she managed to maintain a calm exterior and replied, "Ghosts? You’re a college student, don’t scare yourself with such things."

Chagrined, Lin Shan pursed her lips and returned to her seat.

Sisi quietly shook her head. Despite Lin Shan’s tough exterior, she was actually a coward. If Sisi had confird the existence of ghosts to her, there was no telling how frightened she could’ve gotten.

Do ghosts really exist? Sisi pondered, then thought that while the world has experienced a multitude of inexplicable events, even though ghosts may not exist, it was indeed possible that there were so supernatural forces at play.
