Chapter 1009: Chapter 1009: Being Followed
Qin Sisi’s silence, far from disappointing Ye You, only intensified his desire for closeness. Yet, they had embraced just monts ago, separated by rely a few minutes.
Ye You chuckled at himself, thinking he might have gone a bit mad. Back in his school days at Heavenly Magic God’s Castle, female classmates occasionally showed him affection, to which he remained utterly indifferent.
But now, facing Qin Sisi, even if she said nothing at all, a faint glance, a subtle gesture from her, was enough to stir his desires. He couldn’t help but yearn for her closeness, feeling that no amount of possession was ever sufficient.
Ye You extended a finger and gently traced it across her face, consoling himself with this small gesture as there was no more ti.
Suppressing his desires, Ye You donned the Thousand Phantasm Mask, transforming into the appearance of Hei Qin.
Hei Qin, Xiao Hei, and Qin Sisi, together forever — that was what Ye You hoped and wished for the future.
Qin Sisi never asked, but he believed that she would understand.
The carriage ca to a halt, and the coachman outside yelled, "Sir, we have arrived at the place you ntioned. Please get off!"
Ye You took Qin Sisi’s hand and disembarked the carriage, handing the coachman a hefty sum of Spirit Stones, several tis over the usual fare, and instructed him not to divulge their whereabouts.
The coachman jubilantly accepted the fare, patting his chest to assure absolute secrecy.
Ye You knew in his heart that a re coachman, an ordinary man, could hardly keep a secret if threatened, but this was the worst-case scenario. Hei Qin, though mysterious, had no sworn enemies to provoke an attack.
As long as no one recognized his true identity, the coachman would be safe. Without the threat of harm, the coachman would surely stay silent for the sake of the Spirit Stones, and Ye You’s tracks would not be easily exposed.
"Alright, sir, take care and until next ti!" The coachman showed no burden of keeping a secret, still reveling in the euphoria of receiving so many Spirit Stones. He cheerfully bid Ye You farewell and began the return journey with his carriage.
Watching the carriage disappear into the distance, Qin Sisi asked anxiously, "Can we trust him?"
Ye You pondered, "As long as this face of mine is trustworthy, so is he."
Qin Sisi understood that Ye You had no absolute certainty. They had to be as cautious as possible. She tugged at Ye You’s sleeve and said softly, "Let’s go."
"Hmm," Ye You responded, taking Qin Sisi’s hand again, and side by side, they walked deeper into the Fantasy Forest.
The coachman hurried back along the sa road he had co, with the carriage now empty and the load much lighter, allowing the horses to run faster than on their way there.
The coachman was in high spirits, humming a tune while thinking about how to spend the extra Spirit Stones he had earned that day.
Suddenly, two dark figures erged from the ground like specters, each holding a black iron hook. One hooked the galloping horse, while the other targeted the humming coachman.
With a tearing sound, the horse was hooked, half its body was torn off, instantly turning it into a bloodied steed. Half the body fell by the roadside, while the other half continued to pull the carriage a few steps further because of inertia, before collapsing on its side.
The still-jubilant coachman had his neck cleanly hooked through, his head severed from the body and rolling far away.
Death ca so suddenly he had no awareness of it, such that even after his head fell, a happy smile still lingered at the corner of his mouth.
After two ghostly assassins had finished their slaughter, they imdiately vanished into the dark underground, while a huge, burning fireball fell from the sky.
The bodies of the coachman and horses, along with the empty carriage, were quickly engulfed by the flas, and it wasn’t long before they were burned to ash.
anwhile, the instigator had already disappeared into the distance, pursuing their real target.
Qin Sisi and Ye You were still unaware of the cruel and rapid hunt that had taken place not far away. Hand in hand, they walked deeper into the mystical forest, chatting and laughing.
The deeper they went into the forest, the quieter the environnt beca. There were only the chirping of birds and the sound of the wind rustling the leaves. The dense branches and leaves were like green mountains, looking very serene.
Just as Qin Sisi was about to praise the tranquil and leisurely scenery, a "flapping" sound of wings suddenly broke the silence of the forest.
The two looked up and saw a large flock of unknown birds flying into the sky, flapping their wings urgently towards the depths of the forest as if they had been frightened by sothing.
Ye You’s expression darkened, and he imdiately stopped. He looked in the direction from which the birds had co, his face growing more somber—that was the direction they had co from.
Qin Sisi also sensed sothing was amiss and asked Ye You, "What happened?"
Ye You pondered and said, "It seems soone is tracking us, and their magic level is not low."
For so many birds to be startled into flight, it indicated that their pursuer was moving through the trees or flying near the treetops. Others did not possess the Wings of Rainbow, so this person must either be traveling with the help of Wind Attribute Magic or had reached the level of Magic Star, capable of using their magical power to form wings.
Qin Sisi’s heart also tensed. She had thought that they would be safe after Ye You changed his appearance, but it turned out they had been targeted so quickly.
"Let’s go!" Ye You said in a low voice, pulling Qin Sisi to run deeper into the mystical forest.
If indeed their pursuers were after him, it certainly wouldn’t be just one person. Even though he could handle them, he was worried that Qin Sisi would be in danger during the fight.
Ye You had been to the forest ahead before and could use his familiarity with the environnt to deal with enemies. Moreover, the deeper into the forest they went, the denser the vegetation beca, which was advantageous for hiding. Demonic Beasts also began to appear.
Demonic Beasts could bring danger to them, but also to others. The danger to their opponents was an opportunity for them.
Ye You did not use flight as a mode of travel. The trees here were too dense; it was not convenient to fly between the trees, and they could only rise above the treetops for open skies.
But doing so would make their silhouettes easily visible to their pursuers, which would be to the enemy’s benefit. anwhile, the dense trees in the forest made it more difficult for the enemy to lock onto their target.
Hand in hand, the two dashed through the lush forest. Qin Sisi was not as fast as Ye You. she was almost being dragged by him as they ran.
However, the speed of flight was ultimately faster. Ye You ran ahead, his purple eyes intense and concentrated. Shortly after, he noticed that sothing seed off not far ahead—the trees seed to be bent.
"There’s danger ahead!" Qin Sisi also panted, warning him abruptly.
Ye You made a snap decision to stop. At this mont, the odd sensation was almost within reach, and only then did he realize there was a magic shield in front of them—they were just about to crash into it heavily.
