Zhang Lingying checked everything Lu Jing bought, then when everything was settled, Lu Jing was squatting in front of the cat’s nest, watching Little Mirror drink milk.
His gaze was very gentle.
Little Mirror was very hungry, always gobbling down food, and Lu Jing was worried it might choke on the milk, so he wiped its mouth while advising it to drink more slowly.
"No one’s competing with you. If it’s not enough, Daddy will buy you more."
He really got into the role of a caring father.
"What’s in this bag?" Zhang Lingying noticed a black duffel bag Lu Jing brought, placed next to the sofa, and raised an eyebrow, asking.
Lu Jing hesitated, not answering imdiately.
Zhang Lingying thought it was also Little Mirror’s stuff, went forward and unzipped the bag.
Seeing clothes and daily items belonging to soone inside, she was taken aback.
Lu Jing quickly explained, "I know you’re unwilling to let stay at your place; these things are just what I picked up on a whim, thinking they might co in handy when I occasionally co to see Little Mirror... If you don’t agree to keeping them here, I’ll take them away later."
Lu Jing retreated too quickly, not giving Zhang Lingying a chance to speak.
After speaking, he glanced at her again, as if afraid to anger her.
His cautious manner inexplicably made Zhang Lingying feel uncomfortable.
She never had a chance to ask Lu Jing about his current physical condition.
She still rembered the last ti she saw him on the hospital balcony; he didn’t look well, sitting alone, gazing at the stars, appearing far from recovered.
Though he didn’t look as haggard now, she always felt his illness hadn’t truly healed.
He probably didn’t care much about his own health.
Zhang Lingying lowered her gaze slightly, stared at the luggage bag for a while, then carried the bag into the guest room.
She placed it on the bed Lu Jing used to sleep on.
Although the bed no longer showed any traces of Lu Jing having slept there.
Lu Jing followed her holding Little Mirror, who beca sleepy after eating a full al, and upon seeing Zhang Lingying move his belongings into the guest room, couldn’t help but kiss Little Mirror on the head.
Little Lucky Star!
"Little Mirror likes you; you can co to see it in the future, but you can’t keep buying stuff randomly, there’s no room in my house," Zhang Lingying turned to establish three ground rules with him.
Lu Jing was too good at buying things; at his current purchasing rate, her apartnt really couldn’t withstand it.
Seeing him agree to the first rule, Zhang Lingying continued.
"You can co to see Little Mirror often, but you cannot stay overnight here; I agreed to let you leave personal items only as a precaution against unexpected situations like yesterday."
This was a warning with a hint of humor.
Both rembered Little Mirror’s pungent urine sll and automatically skipped the topic.
Suddenly feeling rejected, Little Mirror turned over in Lu Jing’s arms, uncomfortably nestling in his palm.
"The last rule." Zhang Lingying looked at Lu Jing without expression, speaking righteously, "You cannot claim to be Little Mirror’s father; it’s my cat!"
Lu Jing didn’t show much reaction to the first two rules, but visibly, after hearing the last one, the light in his eyes dimd a bit, and the atmosphere around him seed heavier. He neither agreed nor objected, just kept staring at Little Mirror sleeping in his arms.
Like a father and son about to be separated...
Zhang Lingying was the villain.
Unable to bear the atmosphere, Zhang Lingying prepared to retract her last statent.
Suddenly, she heard Lu Jing’s voice, "Okay, I promise you!"
