Her gentle tone finally got through to the kitten; it stopped following her but didn’t leave, instead, sitting down and looking up at her, appearing to patiently wait for her return.
Lu Jing witnessed this scene and felt the kitten was too sly—so small, yet so good at acting pitiful; what would happen when it grew up?
Was this why Zhang Lingying decided to adopt it?
She must have been deceived!
When Lu Jing ca to his senses, deciding he should hide while Zhang Lingying hadn’t noticed him, it was too late.
As Zhang Lingying looked up, her eyes t his, and both montarily froze.
The atmosphere seed to solidify instantly.
For a long ti, neither spoke; the two stood several steps apart, looking at each other, seemingly waiting for the other to speak first.
Zhang Lingying: "What are you doing here?"
Lu Jing: "Are you going out?"
Both spoke simultaneously, then fell silent together.
In the air, a faint awkwardness lingered.
Just as Lu Jing berated himself internally for asking such a silly question, Zhang Lingying had already answered, "I’m going downstairs to throw out the trash."
Lu Jing promptly offered, "Then I’ll go down with you."
Zhang Lingying frowned slightly, not imdiately responding, first raising her eyes to look at him, puzzled, "Aren’t you here to see ? Aren’t you coming in to sit for a while before leaving?"

Could he admit he regretted it now, not wanting to go downstairs with her?
