When Zhang Lingying woke up, Lu Jing had already left her apartnt.

She thought of sothing, took out her phone, and opened the news app, where she imdiately saw news about the Lu family.

In the photo, Lu Jing was dressed in black, with a small white flower pinned to his chest, holding a photo fra. In the fra was a woman with a beautiful face and gentle temperant—clearly a great beauty in her youth.

In the lens, Lu Jing wore sunglasses with a very calm expression, not revealing any of his vulnerability.

However, the middle-aged man walking beside him, with features sowhat resembling his, had eyes red from crying, looking as if he was deeply saddened.

Even before finishing the short journey, he was on the verge of fainting from exhaustion, prompting people around to rush forward to support him.

If she guessed correctly, this should be Lu Jing’s father, Lu Xiao.

If Lu Jing hadn’t told her himself what kind of person his father was, she would have thought, like everyone else viewing the news photo, that his parents were deeply in love.

Zhang Lingying couldn’t help but sigh.

Growing up, she had always conducted experints with her father, whose educational philosophy prioritized work over personal matters, focusing on unfinished experints even till the end. With her simple mind, she really couldn’t grasp the complex intrigues of affluent families.

Satisfied that Lu Jing was fine, she exited the news page.

For several days straight, Zhang Lingying stayed holed up at ho.

She didn’t go to the lab or contact Leng Jian, instead, she bought a bunch of snacks from the supermarket and squatted on the couch like a student cramming, frantically watching one romance movie after another.

Watching the movie characters going through life-or-death drama over love, getting jealous and upset over trivial matters for extended periods amazed her so much that she forgot to eat her chips.

This kind of drama was beyond her comprehension, she thought.

When the phone rang, Zhang Lingying was startled, and upon seeing the caller ID, she didn’t even bother washing her hands, wiping them casually on a tissue before quickly answering.

Leng Jian’s cool voice ca from the other end of the line: "Are you busy?"

"No, I’m not busy!" Zhang Lingying answered without thinking.

When there was no imdiate response from the other end, she glanced at the unfinished movie and muttered, "Actually, I’m quite busy—just aimlessly so."

After researching romance movies for days, she hadn’t figured out what love was really about.

But Lu Jing confidently said that she didn’t truly love Leng Jian and just saw him as a model of a perfect boyfriend... It wouldn’t be fair to him to keep pursuing dates with Leng Jian like this.

Thus, even though she wasn’t really interested in these romance movies, Zhang Lingying decided not to keep bothering Leng Jian.

The person she liked was a good person, and she didn’t want to take advantage of soone good.

"No matter how busy work is, you have to eat. A new restaurant opened near your ho. Want to try it together?" Leng Jian asked.

Zhang Lingying’s eyes brightened.

She couldn’t actively pursue Leng Jian, but since he was the one inviting her to dine, it shouldn’t be considered pestering, right?

After being tornted by these incomprehensible romance movies for a few days, she wanted to go out for so air and relish the joy of freedom.

After setting a ti, Zhang Lingying cheerfully shut off the movie player and drifted into the room to change clothes.

When she bounded downstairs with her bag, Leng Jian’s car was already waiting by the roadside.

"Get in the car." Leng Jian, seeing her approach, graciously and preemptively opened the car door for her.
