"There’s a house over there!" Ji Weitian shouted with joyful surprise once she recognized it as the hostay they were looking for.

Qin Nanyu didn’t hesitate, he sped up toward the direction of the hostay.

But when they arrived, they found the whole house pitch-dark.

The gates were tightly locked; through the fence, they could see the yard littered with fallen leaves and tree branches broken by the heavy rain.

The flowerpots placed in the corner had plants that were all dead.

The scene looked utterly desolate.

The excitent in Ji Weitian’s heart was doused with a bucket of cold water, extinguishing even the tiniest of sparks in an instant.

"Are we... at the wrong place?" she wondered.

"The address we deduced should be correct. Just because there are no lights on inside doesn’t an it’s unoccupied. You stay in the car; I’ll go and have a look," Qin Nanyu said as he reached to push the car door open.

But Ji Weitian subconsciously grabbed his arm and shook her head at him.

"I’ll go with you."

The rain had lightened, and now there was only a slight drizzle outside the car.

Ji Weitian didn’t wait for Qin Nanyu’s consent; she had already pushed the car door open herself and followed him out.

The two walked to the front of the hostay and discovered that the main gate wasn’t locked; they easily pushed it open.

The yard was eerily quiet; they called out several tis but no one answered.

"No one has lived here for a long ti," Qin Nanyu stated confidently, pointing at the door handle where spiderwebs had started to form.

This ant they might have made a fruitless trip today.

Without finding Professor Zhang, they had gotten themselves trapped in the suburbs.

Ji Weitian was still concerned about him wearing wet clothes, and as soon as she confird there was no one in the hostay, she imdiately tugged at Qin Nanyu.

"It’s too late now; rushing back is likely to cause an accident. Why don’t we stay the night here and wait until daylight to figure things out?"

"..."

"Maybe there are other hostays nearby that we didn’t notice because of the heavy rain. When it gets light, we can look around; perhaps we’ll find Professor Zhang."

Afraid that Qin Nanyu would refuse, Ji Weitian hurriedly added another line.

In her mind, she was silently calculating how long he had been wearing his wet clothes, worrying that his body couldn’t take it.

Qin Nanyu didn’t object.

After looking around by the doorway, he found a key under a flowerpot.

He tried it, and sure enough, it opened the door.

The hostay wasn’t very big; it was a small duplex with only two stories and a little courtyard.

It was clear the hoowner valued personal hygiene, as the living room was spotless.

Apart from the slight musty sll from the house being uninhabited for a long ti, there was nothing else to complain about.

"I’ll go have a look. There are two rooms upstairs and downstairs, the upstairs rooms are locked so I didn’t enter, but the two downstairs are open. We can each take one."

As Ji Weitian toured the house, she also checked out the kitchen.

Because no one had lived there for a while, the fridge was empty.

At this point, she couldn’t help but admire Qin Nanyu’s foresight.

Before they set off, he had bought her a bag of snacks, which was now coming in extrely handy.

"There’s a dryer outside the bathroom; I’ve brought the blankets down from the car. You change out of your wet clothes first, I’ll help you wash them, and then you can wear them once they’re dry."

Afraid he would refuse, Ji Weitian had already approached him with a blanket in hand as soon as she finished speaking.
