"She’s not just a cold, heartless Dragon-slaying Sword, she has a family, and she’s only sixteen." Long Yi said.
Kai Long didn’t respond, but instead just stared at Long Yi, finding it increasingly hard to understand him. A to challenge his authority as the Iron Blood General. While he spoke sense, Kai Long was all too familiar with the harsh realities of war. What principle didn’t he understand?
Family, always the weakest aspect of any war and even a potential obstacle. When his son was executed in the Black Dragon Empire, not a tear fell from Kai Long’s eyes in public. So even labeled him the Heartless General.
Yet, what use was there in expressing internal tornt?
It’s war. Who cares about your pain!
Sigh——"
Kai Long shook his head, stopped looking at Long Yi, and quietly sat back behind his large desk.
Since the old general didn’t kick him out, Long Yi didn’t plan on wandering around aimlessly.
In the spacious study, with its large desk and black cloth-covered sand table, the most eye-catching things remaining were the bookshelves on all four walls. They were packed full of books, a sight truly impressive.
With nothing to do, Long Yi took the liberty of browsing through Kai Long’s collection, which mostly contained historical and war records.
Long Yi had seen so of these from various sources. People with extensive perspectives could gain insights into state governance and war strategy from them. However, Long Yi was not particularly interested in these. Instead, his attention was completely drawn to a certain book.
"Dragon Knight Aerial Combat Advancent"
Opening it, it depicted techniques for aerial dueling with a dragon. Unlike fighter jets equipped with machine guns and missiles, most Dragon Knights’ Fighting Aura or Magic abilities have very close ranges. More often than not, they engage in close-quarter battles or even hand-to-hand combat. How a Dragon Knight collaborates with a giant dragon to win during such combats is likely sothing they can never fully grasp in their lifetis.
Long Yi glanced at it and could not pull his eyes away.
"This flight move... truly worth of a giant dragon, capable of even this kind of movent. But this approach lacks scientific principles, if it just does a roll, using speed to gain distance, it would halt quicker and reduce the burden. At the sa ti, it could provide a continuous combat angle for the Dragon Knight!" Long Yi exclaid.
While muttering to himself, Long Yi made a gesture as though he was flying an aircraft, enacting the move he was imagining.
Air combat! That’s his specialty! Long Yi had wanted to mount a dragon and soar across the sky if not for his desire to evolve Bajie to perfection. On the other hand, his roots lay in aviation school. Having received systematic training, he believed that only fully-trained soldiers can form the first foundation, and directly fighting on a dragon was unsuitable. Hence, he decided to enter the Dragon Knight Academy to learn all the knowledge he could as quickly as possible.
Lost in his own world, the watching Kai Long was dumbstruck. Long Yi’s gesture looked similar to what was in "Dragon Knight Aerial Combat Advancent", but it wasn’t exactly the sa. Moreover, it appeared more efficient!
However, Kai Long said nothing. He quietly watched as Long Yi turned page after page. He would mutter a comntary almost every ti he tried a new air combat move, enacted it with his hand, and sotis pondered how it would cooperate with Dragon Knights’ combat.
Though the book was quite thick, it was primarily annotations. There were fewer than a dozen moves in total. After leafing through it, Long Yi shoved it back on the bookshelf, muttering a sentence.
"Trash..."
There were plenty of other books like this, such as "Analysis and Significance of Air Force and Army Cooperation and Advancent Tactics", seemingly a paper from a student at the Command College. Long Yi flipped through it and said, "The Air Force doesn’t utilize its mobility advantage but cooperates to advance instead, what garbage are they thinking?"
"On the Possibility of Flying Dragons Deploying Troops Behind Enemy Lines"? Interesting concept, but whether you throw or drop the troops, that’s a problem."
Long Yi would comnt after every couple of books. His remarks were mostly "Trash!", "Interesting!", "Nonsense!" It was rare to hear him say, "Not bad."
And these views were surprisingly similar to those of Kai Long’s.
This kid, who seems like all muscle and no brain, turns out to be a talent after all.
However, Kai Long has no idea that Long Yi draws from years of modern military experience from his own world, using that information to evaluate the feasibility of these articles.
"Kid, do you know how to command troops?" Kai Long suddenly asked.
"?" Long Yi laughed, "Give a squad, and I can win the war for you. But if you give a legion, I guarantee I’ll end the war quickly for you."
"Oh? You’re that good?" Kai Long chuckled.
"Yeah, I’ll lose quickly, and then the empire perishes, so the war ends," Long Yi said.
"Hm?" Kai Long was startled and didn’t get Long Yi’s joke at first due to his rigid thinking, but he understood it soon after. This was Long Yi telling him that he was a combat talent who excelled at charging and breaking through enemy lines. He could triumph over any enemies blocking his way, but he wasn’t good at winning an entire campaign.
"Nonsense!" While Kai Long was not quite used to Long Yi’s joke about the nation’s fate, he understood that this was a generation gap.
Just then, a knock sounded from outside the door.
"Co in!" General Kai Long said.
The study door opened to admit the man Long Yi had just t.
Alec.
"Good day, General Kai Long," Alec greeted with a salute of respect typical for younger ones.
"Oh? Isn’t this the Iron Tiger family’s Alec? How are your grandfather and father?" Kai Long greeted.
"Thank you for your concern, General. Both my father and grandfather are well. My grandfather is researching a new magic array and said that he would defeat you in a few days!" Alec jested.
"Humph, go tell that old chap that he’s already lost three tis. If he loses again, he should no longer wear that Iron Tiger badge when he leaves the house!" Kai Long replied.
"Yes, I’ll report your words to my grandfather as they are," Alec replied.
"You’re here for Ai Lin, aren’t you? She’ll be here soon. Wait for her here. By the way, Alec, could you also help decide how to fight this battle? Long Yi, don’t shy away. Co and take a look too." General Kai Long walked over to the sand table on the side, lifted the cover and revealed an unbegun battle.
One side has five dragons, defending a small city of various sizes. The other side has ten dragons, in collaboration with the land forces.
"I designed this scenario for your grandfather. I am the attacker, and he’s the defender," Kai Long told Alec.
"This, I fear..." Alec only took a glance at the situation on the battlefield and understood - such a disparate fight didn’t need much thought. The side with only five dragons was fated to lose. But he couldn’t say that anyone could win, could he? That would be disrespecting General Iron Blood. After all, this was the scenario Kai Long had made to make things difficult for his grandfather, how could it be won?
"Long Yi, do take a look too. How can the side with five dragons win?" Kai Long asked.
"This is easy." Long Yi said.
"How can we win?" Kai Long looked at Long Yi, who didn’t even seem to think before responding. This made Kai Long even more curious – was this kid just bluffing?
"This is ," Long Yi pointed to the leading Dragon Knight.
"And then?"
"Then we win." Long Yi said, laughing. (To be continued... If you like this work, welco to co to qidian to vote. Your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users, please go to m.qidian to read.)
