About ten ters away, Thea Yates held Loren tightly, her face full of concern, brushing off the dust on his clothes.
She turned her head and looked over here.
Lucas Morgan’s first reaction was to break free from Gale Koch’s hand.
Thea Yates seed not to notice, but instead walked straight towards Chloe Grant. She stood in front of Chloe, reached out, and directly slapped Chloe across the face with a loud smack.
At that mont, Chloe Grant was completely stunned.
Not only her, even Lucas Morgan didn’t realize that she would actually make a move.
And she didn’t hold back at all.
Chloe tilted her head, feeling the burning sensation on her left cheek, her mind in a fog, and it was a while before she snapped back.
She looked up at Thea Yates, trying to comprehend.
"What are you doing?" Lucas Morgan also ca to his senses, pulling Chloe Grant behind him.
"I want to ask what you were doing!" Thea Yates was extrely angry, glaring at Chloe Grant, "You took my son out, and then let him walk alone in the front and fall down? If anything happened to him, your life wouldn’t be enough to pay for it!"
Thea Yates raised her voice on the last sentence and issued a warning, "From now on, stay away from my son, and don’t take him out without permission!" "This is his own ho garden, what’s the harm in him walking and playing around? Besides, isn’t it normal for kids to fall? Aren’t you being a bit too concerned?" Lucas Morgan frowned as he spoke to Thea Yates.
Lucas Morgan couldn’t understand nor accept Thea Yates’s actions.
"Can my son be different from other children?" Thea Yates retorted coldly, then looked at Chloe Grant, "I’ll talk to Matthew about this, and he’ll handle it later."
She finished speaking and left, carrying Loren.
Lucas Morgan wanted to say more, but Chloe Grant reached out and held him back.
Finally, they just watched Thea Yates leave with Loren.
The child, not knowing if he was scared from the fall or frightened by Thea Yates’ scolding, lay on Thea’s shoulder with a pitiful expression, looking back at Lucas Morgan and Chloe Grant until Thea turned and they were out of view.
Lucas Morgan turned around, lifting Chloe Grant’s face, and saw that her entire left cheek was swollen with a very distinct handprint.
"Just how hard did she hit you!" Lucas Morgan frowned, showing his discontent.
He asked with concern, "Does it hurt?"
Chloe Grant shook her head, "I’m fine..."
Yet that injury... didn’t look fine at all.
"Co on, let’s go inside. I’ll tend to your wound," Lucas Morgan reached out to take Chloe Grant’s wrist.
But...
When Lucas Morgan turned around, Chloe Grant stood motionless.
Lucas Morgan turned back in confusion, "What’s wrong?"
"You go ahead, I’ll head back first." Chloe Grant shook her head, pointing to her own face, "Looking like this, it wouldn’t be good if Grandma saw it; she’d worry."
"Just tell her it was Thea Yates who hit you," Lucas Morgan was still visibly upset.
Judging from earlier, this woman seed like a gentle, mature type, but turned out to be a spoiled and fierce character.
When she delivered that slap, it was with a sheer arrogance, as if she was superior to everyone else.
"No need, Grandma will worry. I’m fine. Besides, it’s just a minor issue..." Chloe Grant paused, then smiled bitterly, "More than that, I really did take Loren out and didn’t pay enough attention."
"I guess... when Uncle Morgan cos back, he might think I’m at fault too..."
