Lin Fan never thought there would be a day when he’d be traveling deep underground.
Using the Earth Escape Technique.
The solid dirt around him turned into flowing water, sliding past him—even the hardest rocks behaved the sa way. If he hadn’t used the Earth Escape Technique, crashing into those rocks would definitely have left him with a bloody head.
Immortal Law truly lives up to its na.
It can be used for travel as well as for escape, making it arguably the most convenient of all escape techniques.
Covering a thousand miles in a single day—this is just the standard speed of the Earth Escape Technique.
If one possesses an Earth Spirit Root and its grade is high, the corresponding attribute within Immortal Law would see trendous enhancent in power.
Lin Fan’s Spirit Root just so happens to be a Third Grade Earth Spirit Root right now.
It is currently the highest-grade Spirit Root he has revealed.
Half a month later.
"Phew, finally back."
Lin Fan spun around, stepping onto the surface. He had been moving through the depths of the earth for a long ti. Boredom was inevitable, but that’s just the nature of rushing to get sowhere.
He thought to himself, if he ever had to make the journey back again, he definitely wouldn’t choose to move underground the entire way.
Walking while admiring the scenery—that would be much better.
If luck were on his side, he might even encounter so troublemakers along the way. Wouldn’t that be great?
Jiangdu City.
Lin Fan looked up at the familiar city walls before striding into the city. It had been over a month—nearly two months—since he had left Jiangdu City.
His ti in cultivation hadn’t been long.
For others practicing cultivation, it often takes decades before they return, and even then, things have long since changed—old acquaintances have turned to dust.
But not him; he was back after just two months.
"I wonder how Bao Liu is doing."
Among his fifteen subordinates, Lin Fan was most concerned about Bao Liu. Given Bao Liu’s lack of cleverness, Lin Fan felt obligated to look after him more closely.
The governnt offices.
The guards stationed at the entrance were unfamiliar faces—not the n Lin Fan used to know.
It seed that the governnt had developed well during his absence. Wang Zhou really knew how to recruit and expand the ranks.
Fetching more people willing to take on the role of constable.
That ant his reputation as Bald Constable had spread far and wide, drawing others to join.
Except... none of these fellows were bald—bad review.
Lin Fan strode into the governnt premises. Given his previous position in the governnt, there was absolutely no need for him to undergo any checks.
"Stop! This is restricted governnt territory; unauthorized entry is forbidden!" one guard barked, glaring. His hand hovered over his weapon, his posture indicating he was ready to strike Lin Fan down if he took another step.
Lin Fan smiled. "Good, you’re doing your job with diligence. Judging by your unfamiliar faces, you must be new recruits. I’m here to see Lord Wang Zhou. To make things clear, I’m essentially your leader."
Lin Fan treated them amiably because they were constables. If they had been cultivators obstructing a mortal pathway, he would have slapped them aside without hesitation.
"Where did this lunatic co from? Spouting nonsense! Wang Zhou has already been sent off to Great Zhou City for punishnt because of his cris. If you dare make trouble again, I’ll arrest you! Get out!" The guard’s eyes flared in anger, his tone sharp and cutting.
Lin Fan gradually withdrew his smile, fixing the man with a piercing gaze. Unable to hold Lin Fan’s stare, the guard averted his eyes, inwardly furious. Just as he was about to bark further insults, Lin Fan turned and walked away.
Relief washed over the guard as Lin Fan left.
A chilling sensation had overtaken him monts earlier.
The feeling left an unsettling bitterness.
Lin Fan arrived at a nearby residence—Bao Liu’s ho.
He knocked on the door, for quite so ti, but no one answered. Taking a mont to sense the surroundings, he realized the house was empty. Where had Bao Liu gone?
What could have happened for Wang Zhou, Lord Wang, to face accusations?
What had unfolded during his absence?
A neighbor stepped out from the house next door. "Young man, who are you looking for?"
Lin Fan replied, "I’m looking for Wang Baoliu."
The neighbor’s expression faltered slightly but still answered, "Young man, you’d best not bother looking. Wang Baoliu was implicated with Wang Zhou and has already been taken to Great Zhou City. It’s been so ti now."
"May I ask what cris were alleged?" Lin Fan asked.
He wouldn’t believe that Bao Liu could commit cris—sothing deeper must be at play.
"Young man, how would a commoner like know such things? I’m just an ordinary citizen," the neighbor replied hesitantly.
Lin Fan nodded faintly and chose not to pursue the matter further before leaving.
He made his way to a house by the riverbank.
From a distance.
He saw a man pushing a cart. Just from the figure, Lin Fan instantly recognized who it was. Spotting the gleaming bald head, he was overco with joy.
"Zhen Bin..." Lin Fan called out.
The man pushing the cart trembled at the sound, as if suddenly recalling soone he hadn’t seen in ages. He turned abruptly, confirming the voice belonged to none other than Lin Fan.
"Boss..." Gao Zhenbin exclaid, unable to believe that the boss, who had gone to participate in the Immortal Sect entrance exam, had returned.
Lin Fan imdiately stepped forward, clapping Gao Zhenbin’s shoulder. "I’m back to check in on all of you. I just visited the governnt office—the guards at the entrance told that Lord Wang had been arrested. I also went looking for Bao Liu, only to discover he’s been taken too. What’s going on here?"
Gao Zhenbin, overwheld upon seeing his boss, broke down and cried. "Boss, you don’t know. About half a month after you left, everything changed. Lord Wang was falsely accused of conspiring with the Serpent Gang’s second-in-command, colluding with demons, and killing their leader. Several officials sent to oversee the Demon Hunting Mansion claid they found evidence of Lord Wang’s collusion with demons. He was taken to Great Zhou City shortly after."
"What? Who the hell dared to pull off sothing like this?" Lin Fan roared, fury welling up within him. He had only been gone for a short ti, but such drastic events had unfolded. If he hadn’t chosen to return, he wouldn’t have known a thing about it.
"Boss, though I don’t know the full details, I suspect this matter involves deeper layers—far beyond what we can manage. Boss, you should pretend you don’t know anything and return to continue cultivating. One day, when you’re strong enough, you can avenge us," Gao Zhenbin cried.
"These were Lord Wang’s last words to before being taken. He told to inform you if you returned. If not, then I was told to keep quiet."
Tears stread as Gao Zhenbin poured out the story.
Lord Wang had always believed that Lin Fan was destined to beco an Immortal Sect disciple. But even as a disciple, climbing through the ranks of cultivation and establishing any status would take significant ti.
anwhile, the political machinations at play here were deeply entrenched. Evidence had been fabricated so decisively that overturning it seed impossible. Even if Lin Fan returned, he would likely be powerless—and risk drawing danger upon himself.
"What happened to your leg?" Lin Fan asked, noticing Gao Zhenbin’s left leg was severely deford, rendered useless. The injury was clearly inflicted intentionally.
Gao Zhenbin lowered his head, reluctant to explain.
"Speak." Lin Fan’s voice hardened.
Shaking, Gao Zhenbin stamred, "Boss, it was broken by Lang Jun."
Lang Jun?
A petty thug.
Lin Fan vaguely recalled the na from the past—he was the one who had previously broken Zhenbin’s leg. Lin Fan had settled the score back then, but it seed the mont Lin Fan left, Lang Jun sought vengeance and struck again.
"It’s my fault," Lin Fan admitted, guilt consuming him.
"Boss, this isn’t your fault—it has nothing to do with you," Gao Zhenbin insisted.
"No, it is my fault. ’If you leave the roots intact, weeds regrow with the spring breeze.’ I should’ve eradicated him back then," Lin Fan growled, his words like ice. A murderous aura erupted from him, sending shivers down Gao Zhenbin’s spine.
Lin Fan reined in his killing intent, patting Zhenbin’s shoulder gently. "Don’t worry—I’ll take care of everything."
He handed over a glowing elixir.
"Consu this, and your leg will heal. Stay ho and rest properly. Soon, everything will return to how it was."
Lin Fan said little else to Zhenbin.
So things, he decided, were for him alone to handle.
"To return without avenging one’s kin is to walk the night clad in silks. When brothers are wronged, the blade must rise, and blood must fall upon all corners of the land."
Starting from Jiangdu City, Lin Fan resolved to cut his way to Great Zhou City.
"Boss..."
Gao Zhenbin called out, but Lin Fan’s figure disappeared before his eyes.
The port.
Lang Jun had returned to his forr position. Reclining in a chair, surrounded by sycophants waving fans to serve him, he barked orders. "Listen up—none of you dare cross the Serpent Gang. So what if soone helped you before? Turns out they couldn’t—"
"Hey!"
"Rember ?"
Lang Jun froze halfway through his domineering tirade, feeling a tap on his shoulder. When he turned around, he saw the familiar face that terrified him more than words could describe.
"You..."
Lin Fan gave him no opportunity to speak. One hand pressed firmly on Lang Jun’s shoulder while the other gripped his skull, yanking it violently.
Squish!
Blood splattered in all directions.
Lang Jun’s headless body slumped to the ground.
Everyone nearby was stunned into absolute silence, paralyzed by the grueso sight.
Lin Fan held Lang Jun’s severed head, casting a cold stare at the gathered mbers of the Serpent Gang. He hurled the head to the ground in front of them, then ran his hand across his scalp. With a surge of mana, his black hair burst away, leaving his head perfectly bald.
"I, Lin Fan, constable of Jiangdu City, was gone for a while—and you’ve all forgotten who I am. But starting today, you will never forget again."
His words settled like a grim prophecy.
Lin Fan strode toward the Demon Hunting Mansion.
The Serpent Gang mbers at the port scread in panic. Lin Fan’s ruthlessness had shattered their courage.
The citizens nearby exchanged whispers.
"He’s back—that’s Constable Lin, isn’t it?"
"I heard Lord Wang ntion at the Drunken Fragrance House that Constable Lin went to cultivate. He even said Constable Lin was the most exceptional constable ever under his command—soone destined to beco an Immortal who’d protect Jiangdu City. But why is he back now?"
"Are you stupid?! He definitely heard the news and ca back to take revenge!"
"Quick, let’s get to the Serpent Gang headquarters!"
The residents hurriedly threw aside their belongings and began rushing toward the Serpent Gang base, spreading word as they went.
Constable Lin, who had once left, had returned.
And he was here for vengeance.
At the ti, when Lin Fan was still in Jiangdu City, the bald head beca the symbolic hairstyle of every citizen. But after Lord Wang’s arrest, any citizen spotted with a shaved head was beaten by mbers of the Serpent Gang.
Terrified, many residents hid in their hos, waiting for their hair to grow out.
Now, as news of Lin Fan’s return spread, people burst out of their hos, heading straight for the Serpent Gang headquarters.
The Demon Hunting Mansion.
Several corpses lay sprawled in pools of blood.
"Who are you exactly? I am a disciple of the Zhou Family. Do you dare kill ? The Zhou Family won’t let you off!" A man, pale-faced and trembling, glared at Lin Fan in desperation.
Just monts earlier, in an instant.
He didn’t even understand what had occurred.
Everyone but him was dead.
A group of martial artists going up against a cultivator—it was suicide.
Lin Fan casually swung his sword, ending the man’s life, before vanishing from the scene.
