The next day.
In the director’s office.
Mr. Fan leaned back in his leather chair, rubbing his hands together in front of his chest.
Standing before him were the assistant director and Mr. Wang.
“So you’re saying that this Mr. Ma wants our female doctor to accompany him?”
The assistant director said, “That seems to be his intent.”
Mr. Wang, eager to take credit, suggested, “How about we let Dr. Su… It’s just a eting after all, saying so nice words, there shouldn’t be any problem, right?”
Mr. Fan looked disdainfully at Mr. Wang, “You’re a man yourself, don’t you understand n? Is it just about ‘saying so nice words’ if she goes?”
Mr. Wang said, sowhat troubled, “Then what should we do? If Su ixi doesn’t step in, we won’t be able to purchase the equipnt.”
After thinking for a while, Mr. Fan said with distress, “Let’s think of so other way. The equipnt is important, but we have no reason to exchange it for our female doctor. The hospital is here to save lives and heal the wounded, not to achieve its ends by any ans necessary.”
The assistant director agreed.
For the equipnt, he could drink with them, give gifts, say all the niceties, but he absolutely wouldn’t do anything to hurt others.
The assistant director and Mr. Wang left the director’s office with a sense of frustration.
However, their conversation had been completely overheard by Han Ningzhen, who was outside.
Han Ningzhen was Mr. Fan’s daughter, there to deliver sothing to him.
After hearing what her father had said, she beca furious.
She was furious for two reasons, the first being: Su ixi really had so clout, didn’t she? She was the key to acquiring the equipnt. How could the equipnt company’s people fancy her so easily? Why didn’t they fancy her, Han Ningzhen?

“Why not?”
“Our hospital doesn’t qualify.”
Ningzhen asked, “Uncle Fan, did you really try? Have you communicated with their contact person in detail?”
“Of course, I communicated,” the assistant director subconsciously rubbed his stomach.
He had drunk too much the previous night, vomited, and his stomach hurt. He had no appetite for breakfast today. Normally a big eater of three bowls of rice, now he could only sip porridge in the cafeteria.

“Mr. Wang, I heard that only Su ixi can succeed in negotiating for that phototherapy equipnt. Is that true?”

“My dad told . He said Su ixi doesn’t want to go.”
Mr. Wang chuckled, “It’s not that she doesn’t want to go, it’s that your dad never intended to send Su ixi in the first place.”
Han Ningzhen hinted obliquely, “If I were Su ixi, I would definitely go. For the hospital’s honor, why wouldn’t I, right?”
Mr. Wang asked with curiosity, “Little Ningzhen, do you know what it ans to go there?”
“What does it an? Isn’t it just about negotiating a deal?” Han Ningzhen pretended to be innocent.
Mr. Wang shook his head with a smile, “This matter is no joke. If your dad hasn’t told you, then neither will I. Maybe you should ask your dad.”
It was okay for Mr. Wang to assign Su ixi to outpatient clinic duties, as that was a regular job, but eting with Mr. Ma was a different story—if sothing went wrong, he couldn’t bear the responsibility.
Han Ningzhen could see Mr. Wang’s attitude clearly and hence backed out.
Upon exiting, she saw Su ixi who had just co from the operating room.
Su ixi didn’t greet her, but Han Ningzhen called out to her, “Dr. Su, there’s sothing I want to talk to you about.”
“What is it?”
“About the phototherapy equipnt.”
“?” Su ixi asked, “What does it have to do with ?”
Han Ningzhen didn’t initially have a plan, but in that mont, a sche suddenly hatched.
She spoke with feigned seriousness, “Do you rember the big fuss over that video a few days ago? A lot of people in Feng City saw that video, and so did the person in charge of that equipnt.”
“And then?” Su ixi asked.
“That person only saw the one your mother posted and firmly believed you embarrassed City Third Hospital. He refused to sell the equipnt to us. Yesterday, Mr. Fan and Mr. Wang went to negotiate, and that person brought up the issue again. Because of you, they talked until midnight and still couldn’t reach a deal.”
“Because of ?”
Han Ningzhen proclaid righteously, “Don’t believe ? Go ask Mr. Wang. He was there last night. Ask him if it was because of you or not.”

However, as she reached the corridor, she hid herself and stealthily observed Su ixi.
Su ixi stood there, conflicted.
She didn’t quite believe Han Ningzhen. If it were because of the video, then the head of the hospital should have approached her, asking her to go and offer an apology.
Still, purchasing equipnt was a big deal. If it truly was because of her, she would feel guilty.
City Third Hospital might not be a top hospital, but after graduating with a master’s degree, she was turned down by several other hospitals due to her lack of connections. It was City Third Hospital that gave her a job opportunity.
After so thought, she entered Mr. Wang’s clinic.
“Mr. Wang…”
Mr. Wang was busy. He glanced up at Su ixi, “What’s the matter?”
“I heard that the negotiation for the surgical phototherapy equipnt failed… because of ?”
Mr. Wang looked surprised for a mont, then asked, “Who told you that?”
“…” Su ixi wasn’t one to gossip, so she didn’t say.
Seeing that she wasn’t willing to divulge, Mr. Wang said, “Actually, it’s not about you. The thing is, even the head of the hospital cares about you and didn’t want you to feel aggrieved, which is why he didn’t ntion it. If we can’t get that equipnt, it’s fine, it’s not a big deal.”

“Yes, our hospital wouldn’t let any doctor feel aggrieved. So the head of the hospital didn’t bring it up, fearing that you’d feel low eting that person in charge,” Mr. Wang explained.
Su ixi roughly understood—the hospital leadership didn’t want to reopen her wounds, that’s why they hadn’t told her.

Actually, Han Ningzhen had overheard everything from outside. Fortunately, Su ixi didn’t get the full truth, and Mr. Wang hadn’t been explicit, so Su ixi must have been deceived.
