Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Why Show Favoritism?

After chatting for a while, it was ti for dinner.

Qiu Yurou said, “I’ll give Gu Cheng a call and see if he wants to co back for dinner.”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yuan beca excited, “Great, I haven’t seen Brother Cheng in a few days.”

Then, in front of everyone, Qiu Yurou took out her mobile phone and dialed Gu Cheng’s number.

“Ah Cheng, do you rember Manman, whom I always ntion to you and your brother? She’s my best friend’s daughter from the UK.”

Gu Cheng, unaware that Qiu Yurou was on speakerphone, replied, “I know, haven’t you always wanted to introduce her to Gu Wei?”

...

Upon hearing this, Su ixi’s expression darkened.

She had indeed guessed correctly.

Unable to help herself, Zhou Yuan chid in, “Brother Cheng, Sister Su and I are here too.”

Gu Cheng realized he had been set up by his mother and couldn’t help but say, “You all are there, I was just joking earlier. Xiao Xi, don’t take it to heart.”

Qiu Yurou added, “Are you coming back for lunch? We’re all waiting for you to join us.”

“No need, I have a eting this afternoon, I’ll just grab a bite at the office.”

“It won’t take much ti.”

“It’s quite ti-consuming to go back and forth. Just enjoy your al, and please say hello to Manman for .”

After hanging up the phone, Qiu Yurou cast a disdainful glance at Su ixi to see her reaction.

Other than the initial mont, Su ixi’s face had since regained its composure.

Eagerly, Wan Manyu said, “Auntie, let’s start the al first then. After eating, I still want to look around.”

After the al, Su ixi and Zhou Yuan went back together.

Wan Manyu and Qiu Yurou saw them out to the door.

Turning around, Qiu Yurou sighed.

Wan Manyu couldn’t help but ask, “Auntie, why do you sigh? Isn’t it nice that both daughters-in-law ca to visit you?”

With a helpless glance at Wan Manyu, Qiu Yurou said, “You know, in my heart, you are the one I’ve chosen as my daughter-in-law. If only you and Yuanyuan were the ones here today, that would be so much better.”

Manman laughed, “Auntie, I could actually tell just now. You are quite partial between the two daughters-in-law, liking one and not the other. But from what I see, they’re both quite nice girls, at least they are willing to co back to visit you.”

Seated on the couch, Qiu Yurou mused, “If only you and Gu Wei had t earlier. You are so beautiful and outstanding, there’s no reason for Gu Wei not to like you, and no reason for you not to like him.”

Manyu smiled and said, “Actually, even though I’ve been abroad these years, I often use social dia from back ho. There was a term I ca across online, ‘mama’s boy.’ It ans in the mother’s eyes, her son is extrely outstanding and that a daughter-in-law is lucky to marry into the family. Auntie, aren’t you the sa, thinking your son is so outstanding and invariably feeling that any daughter-in-law isn’t good enough for him?”

Qiu Yurou disagreed, “What you’re describing, I’ve heard a little bit about it. These mama’s boy’s mothers certainly are arrogant, but it’s different in my case. You haven’t t Gu Wei. If you had, you would never ntion the term ‘mama’s boy.'”

Manyu chuckled, no longer wanting to argue that point.

Qiu Yurou then asked, “What are your plans moving forward?”

Manyu replied, “I plan to stay with one relative for a few days, then another for a few days, and here with you as well. If I decide to stay, I’ll just have my mom’s house back in the country redecorated for to live in permanently.”

“That works too. Auntie really likes you and hopes you can always stay beside ,” said Qiu Yurou with anticipation.

Zhou Yuan first dropped Su ixi off at Yang Guang Garden.

After seeing off Su ixi, she found herself missing Gu Cheng greatly. She had been holding back, but listening to Gu Cheng’s voice at noon was unbearable.

She told the driver, “To the Gu Group, please.”

Forty minutes later, Zhou Yuan arrived at the Gu Group building.

She got out of the car and walked inside.

The security guard didn’t recognize her and stopped her.

Zhou Yuan then said, “I am Mr. Gu’s fiancée, my na is Zhou Yuan.”

The security guard, uncertain, didn’t dare let her in.

Over the years, quite a few won claiming to be Mr. Gu’s wife had tried to get in, but after reading many overbearing CEO novels, the security guard knew better. If even one turned out to be true, he’d be out of a job.

He’s not so foolish.

So he went to consult the receptionist, who then reported it upstairs.

The receptionist, thinking much the sa as the guard, made a call to the General Manager’s secretary, who then asked Assistant Bai. Originally on his way to a eting, Assistant Bai ca down, saw Zhou Yuan, and then took her upstairs.

Assistant Bai recognized Zhou Yuan, as he was in charge of the wedding invitations for Gu Cheng and her, which featured both of their photos.

And so, Zhou Yuan was led into Gu Cheng’s office.

Gu Cheng’s office was on the 39th floor, quite large and very comfortable with the heating on.

“Where’s Brother Cheng?” Zhou Yuan asked Assistant Bai.

Assistant Bai replied, “Mr. Gu is in a eting, it should be over around three. I’ll go in a bit to let him know, see if he can co out earlier.”

“That’s all right, there’s nothing in particular— just passing by and wanted to stop in for a look. Don’t bother notifying him, I’ll just wait here for him.”

“Ok, then make yourself at ho,” Assistant Bai said, before going back to his own work.

Zhou Yuan sat in the office.

The vast office, aside from a desk, chairs, a sofa, and so decorations, was devoid of other items, appearing quite lonely.

Did Gu Cheng feel lonely working here all by himself?

She walked over, touched his desk and chair as well as the computer he used for work, paced around for a while, feeling the atmosphere that belonged to Gu Cheng.

Half an hour passed, and Gu Cheng did not return; an hour went by, and he still had not co back.

She lay down on the sofa and dozed off.

Not sure how long she slept, she was awakened by the sounds of a mouse and keyboard at work. Groggily, she opened her eyes.

Gu Cheng, who had returned at so point, was working at his computer.

He was utterly focused on his work as though she wasn’t there at all.

At that mont, she suddenly regretted coming.

He had agreed to marry her, so why shouldn’t she just wait quietly to be his wife? Why bother with this visit?

n don’t like won who are too clingy, do they? It seed very immature.

She sat up.

At that mont, Gu Cheng finally glanced at her, “Awake?”

“Yeah, just woke up.” She wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth.

Then glancing at her watch, she saw it was four in the afternoon.

She explained, “I was just passing by and wanted to stop in. It’s been days since I last saw you, and you hadn’t reached out to .”

He humd in response.

After a while, he added, “I’ve been a bit busy lately.”
