Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Is She Really the Wife of Second Young Mr. Gu?
Upon hearing this, everyone incredulously turned their gaze toward Zhou Yuan.
Those socialites who already disliked Zhou Yuan wanted to scorn her, but they had to maintain their poise and elegance.
So, they resorted to a very subtle form of mockery.
“Is she really Young Commander Gu’s wife? How co we’ve never heard about it before?”
“Are you mistaken, or did you recognize the wrong person?”
Zhou Yuan said, “Of course I haven’t recognized the wrong person. If you don’t believe , you can ask Sister Su.”
...
Su ixi looked at the crowd and then nodded faintly at them.
This news spread like a bomb—from one to ten, ten to a hundred, and in no ti, many people had gathered around Su ixi.
“Is she really the Young Commander’s wife? How co we’ve never heard about it before? There wasn’t even a wedding, was there?”
“Is she just a girlfriend? Maybe they are still in the dating phase?”
“But the Gu Family is notoriously picky when choosing daughters-in-law. If she wasn’t approved, she wouldn’t be here today.”
Zhou Yuan, holding Su ixi’s arm, said, “She is indeed Gu Wei’s wife. They’ve been legally married for over a year now but just haven’t had ti to hold a wedding ceremony. But wedding or no wedding, it doesn’t really matter as long as they are legally married.”
Su ixi smiled and nodded to the people around her, “That’s right. I am Gu Wei’s wife. My family na is Su. My na is Su ixi.”
She could feel Qiu Yurou’s glare from not far away, as if she wanted to kill her.
Qiu Yurou had indeed been careless; she had overlooked Zhou Yuan’s attachnt to Su ixi.
In fact, she should have realized it that night of New Year’s Eve. However, she thought the quarrel between Zhou Yuan and Qiu Wenyin was simply due to mutual jealousy between two young girls, and Su ixi’s presence was just an excuse for their squabble. Spoiled rich girls often had brash characters and found it easy to fight when put together. She had seen it often enough not to be surprised.
Zhou Yuan, such a big mouth!
In the crowd, Mrs. Si and Mrs. Huo, who had played mahjong with Su ixi before, also stepped forward.
“She is the Second Young Mr. Gu’s wife. Didn’t you know? It turns out only we’ve t her, and you all haven’t?” Mrs. Si asked.
“Yes, she is quite good at mahjong,” Mrs. Huo chid in.
The crowd was initially skeptical, but as both Mrs. Si and Mrs. Huo spoke up, everyone believed it.
So it was true, Su ixi was indeed a daughter-in-law of the Gu Family!
Another person asked, “Where is Miss Su from? How co we’ve never seen you before? How did you and Young Commander et?”
“I…”
Before Su ixi could answer, Qiu Yurou ca over and responded to the crowd.
“She is from Feng City and is a doctor.”
Seeing that Qiu Yurou only ntioned Su ixi’s profession and not her family, the crowd speculated that Su ixi might not co from a distinguished family.
Most people knew better and chose to keep quiet.
However, there was a Mrs. Leng in the crowd. Mrs. Leng had always appeared friendly with Qiu Yurou on the surface, but they had been subtly competing for decades—from being school beauties to whom they married and later to comparing husbands and wealth.
Mrs. Leng, always behind Qiu Yurou, had then shifted to comparing children and daughters-in-law.
Both Gu Cheng and Gu Wei were outstanding, just forever wifeless, unlike Mrs. Leng’s son, who already had three children.
Mrs. Leng was not about to give up an opportunity for comparison and asked Su ixi, “What business does Miss Su’s family do?”
Su ixi didn’t answer; she left the question to Qiu Yurou.
Wasn’t Qiu Yurou trying to make her recognize her own status? Well, she was very clear about it.
Qiu Yurou’s face turned awkward.
Having outshined Mrs. Leng in almost everything for decades, it was only in having a daughter-in-law where she fell short. Mrs. Leng’s daughter-in-law had graduated from Columbia University, had three children, and still managed the family business.
What’s Su ixi got? She’s just an ordinary little doctor who knows a bit about Chinese dicine, hardly soone who makes it big.
Qiu Yurou was just about to concoct a more impressive title for Su ixi when a loudspeaker blared from outside:
“Dear in-laws, happy New Year, we’ve co to bring you a New Year’s gift!”
Everyone looked towards the main entrance, only to see a truck parked at the entrance of the villa estate. A man and a woman stood atop the truck, holding a loudspeaker, “Dear in-laws, happy New Year, happy New Year to everyone. We are Su ixi’s family on her mother’s side. I’m her stepfather, and this lady next to is her biological mother.”
Upon seeing this scene, Qiu Yurou’s face turned pale.
The scene she least wanted to witness had happened!
She glared at Su ixi with a look sharp as a knife.
Su ixi just smiled softly.
She’d never been ashad of her background. If Qiu Yurou wanted her to face reality, it didn’t bother her, but the person who least wanted to face the reality was Qiu Yurou herself!
Qiu Yurou clutched her nails so hard they almost pierced her skin, and she took several deep breaths to prevent herself from fainting.
She almost did faint if Gu Cheng hadn’t co over in ti to support her.
Gu Cheng glanced at Su ixi; his look was indifferent, even carrying a faint, almost imperceptible smile.
From childhood, he had never seen anyone provoke Qiu Yurou to this extent.
Qiu Yurou commanded the security inside the estate: “Drive those people out!”
Everyone expressed their surprise.
Were those really her in-laws?
Why did Qiu Yurou want them driven away?
Everyone looked back at Su ixi, and Mrs. Leng was the first to ask, “Miss Su, are those people who just ca your family?”
Su ixi glanced at Qiu Yurou.
Qiu Yurou was warning her with a furious look—if she dared admit it, she would face the consequences!
Su ixi smiled at everyone and then slowly said, “I grew up alone, without a family.”
“Then are you an orphan?” Mrs. Leng asked.
“Sothing like that.” Su ixi said.
She was telling the truth.
Qiu Yurou had used Fang Xin to insult her, so she used Fang Xin to hit back. She had no reason to protect Fang Xin, who had never loved her—why should she bother protecting her?
Just like today, if it were a mother who loved her daughter, knowing her daughter was marrying into a wealthy family, she should be anxious and considerate, not so eager to cling on.
The party ended shortly after.
Guests began to leave one by one.
Mr. Zhou also left, pulling Zhou Yuan along.
Zhou Yuan was unwilling: “I still want to stay at the Gu Family for a while.”
Mr. Zhou was so angry he almost tied up his own daughter, “Listen to your father for once, if you still want to marry into the Gu Family, you must co with now or you’ll never get close to Gu Cheng again.”
“Why?”
“Don’t you know you’ve stirred up a hornet’s nest?”
“Huh?”
“I’ll explain it slowly when we get ho.”
With no other option, Zhou Yuan reluctantly went to pack her things and follow Mr. Zhou away.
