Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Big Brother Arrives
Su ixi, genuinely wanting to learn, did not overthink and followed Gu Wei’s instructions to the letter, practicing as if she was in military training.
She repeated the sa motions over and over, keeping at it until noon.
Finally, there was a move that involved a slide tackle. Gu Wei said, “If soone tries to assault you from the side, you can use a slide tackle like this.”
At that mont, Su ixi was unprepared, and with a light sweep of Gu Wei’s foot, she was knocked down.
As she fell backward, Gu Wei reached out to catch her.
But he had injured his leg, and the act of reaching out pulled at his wound, causing him pain. He failed to steady himself, and both of them fell onto the mat.
She was beneath him, he was on top, and his hand cushioned her neck to prevent injury.
What was purely a training session suddenly beca charged with intimacy, their eyes locked, and the atmosphere shifted.
Their breaths mingled.
Su ixi looked at him, thought of his care for her over the past days, and rembered how he had picked her up from work through the storm and rain the night before.
In that mont, her heart fluttered, thinking that if he wanted to kiss her or do sothing more, she wouldn’t object.
Gu Wei savored this feeling too.
He had been suffering from insomnia for a long ti, but eting her, and particularly their recent contact, helped him sleep better. He imagined if he could sleep with her in his arms every night, it would be a completely different experience.
He lowered his head, gazing at her lips gleaming with luster, and he couldn’t help wanting to touch them.
But just then, the doorbell rang.
Both of them were montarily stunned.
“Um… it seems soone is here,” Su ixi said.
Gu Wei nodded, “I’ll get the door.”
But neither of them moved.
Su ixi had to remind him, “Then you’ll need to get up first, you’re on my leg.”
Gu Wei responded, “You’re on my hand too.”
“So… shall we let go together?”
“Sure!”

When Gu Wei opened the door, he saw his elder brother, Gu Cheng, standing outside.
“Sorry to interrupt,” Gu Cheng apologized upon seeing Gu Wei and Su ixi, as his first act was to apologize.
Gu Wei said, “What are you talking about? You didn’t interrupt anything.”
Gu Cheng disagreed, speaking earnestly, “Both of your complexions are flushed, surely you’ve just finished so form of exercise. It’s uncomfortable to be disturbed during it—I hope it wasn’t anything particularly special.”
Gu Wei playfully punched him on the chest and then said, “Nothing special, I was teaching Ah Xi self-defense.”
He then introduced her, “This is the girl I’m going to marry, her na is Su ixi… Ah Xi, this is my elder brother, Gu Cheng.”
Su ixi was taken aback.
The first ti she laid eyes on Gu Cheng, she felt a sense of oppression.
Gu Cheng’s attire and hair were impeccable, not a single hair out of place, and his shirt buttons were neatly fastened. He stood at the doorway, making the ho appear modest in comparison, as if only a glittering mansion would befit him.
Both brothers were tall, handso, and exuded a noble air. Had their mother saved the galaxy in a past life to be blessed with two such exceptional sons?
She greeted him, “Elder brother.”
Gu Cheng pulled out a gift bag from behind him, “This is a present for our first eting.”
Su ixi was surprised, then said, “Thank you, elder brother.”
She had one lingering question in her mind: They were about to get registered, yet Gu Wei hadn’t taken her to et his family. It puzzled her greatly.
But now that an elder brother had arrived, it eased her mind considerably.
“Do the two of you want to take a shower and change clothes? I’ll take you out for dinner in a bit,” Gu Cheng suggested.
Gu Wei responded without any pretense, “If elder brother is treating us, we couldn’t ask for more.”
“Go ahead.”

Su ixi went back to her room and opened the gift from Gu Cheng.
It was a necklace.
Su ixi checked the logo on the box with her phone, HarryWinston, but couldn’t find the style online, so she didn’t know how much it cost.
It must be quite expensive since it’s a luxury brand.
She hesitated for a mont, thinking it would be rude to give the necklace back to Gu Cheng directly. It might be better to ask Gu Wei for advice later.
That day, Gu Cheng took them out to dinner in his cheapest Porsche, to a French restaurant where the average cost per person was 2000.
Before entering, Su ixi tugged at Gu Wei and whispered, “This place is quite expensive. Should we switch to another restaurant? Let’s not make Big Brother spend too much.”
Gu Wei smiled and said, “Don’t worry, my brother has money. Don’t be polite with him.”
“What does he do for work?”
Gu Wei thought for a mont and said, “Corporate executive, I guess. He has a wide network too. It was him who took to Sheng Kang Hospital for treatnt before.”
So that’s how it was.
Su ixi then said, “Your brother gave a necklace, and it feels quite expensive. I’m not sure I should accept it.”
But Gu Wei said, “Just keep it. It’s a couple’s necklace. I have one too.”
Su ixi: “…”
It was Su ixi’s first ti dining at such a high-end restaurant, where even the nu was entirely in English.
Although she could understand English, she didn’t know what these dishes would actually be like when served.
Luckily, she was quick-witted. When the waiter asked her what she would like, she said she wanted the sa thing as Gu Wei.
At that mont, the Gu brothers all looked at her with curiosity, and the waiter was also a bit surprised, praising her with a remark, “Good job.”
She was startled—was there an issue with ordering the sa al?
It wasn’t long before their als arrived and Su ixi felt overwheld by the food in front of her.
The set al Gu Wei ordered was all large portions; just the steak alone was enough to stuff her, followed by desserts, main courses, soup, and drinks.
She glanced awkwardly at Gu Wei.
However, Gu Wei calmly reached for her plate and said, “I’ll cut it for you, and if you can’t finish, I’ll eat it.”
“You can eat that much?” Su ixi was also concerned about his appetite.
“Of course, I usually only eat until I’m seventy percent full when I dine with you.”
Su ixi sighed in relief.
She gave half of the steak to Gu Wei, and he also ate the main courses, soups, and anything else she couldn’t finish.
Gu Cheng sat across from them, thinking to himself that they should just stop eating if they couldn’t finish.
But if he said that, it would deprive Gu Wei of the opportunity to show off.
Eating a lot was also a kind of ability.
Ever since he knew Gu Wei was teaching Su ixi self-defense, Gu Cheng noticed his brother was quite skillful at flirting; self-defense entailed physical contact, perfect for couples who were initially unfamiliar with each other.
Midway through the al, Su ixi excused herself to go to the restroom.
She was always quick in the restroom, and on her return, it seed she overheard Gu Wei and Gu Cheng discussing her.
Their seats were around a corner, and a screen was behind their chairs, so they didn’t see her approaching.
First was Gu Cheng’s voice: “Dr. Liao has findings. The reason you sleep well whenever you’ve had physical contact with Ah Xi is because your body produces dopamine after touching her, which induces hormonal changes. These changes prevent Lang Jian from affecting you, thus facilitating sleep.”
Gu Wei replied, “As long as it helps sleep, that’s fine. The sensation of falling asleep is really pleasant. This injury happened because I wasn’t in good shape that day.”
Gu Cheng then asked, “Have you considered that touching another woman might also result in dopamine secretion?”
Gu Wei shook his head: “No need, I hate complications.”
Hearing this, Su ixi zoned out for a mont.
So, he married her just to treat his insomnia?
