Chapter 195: THE FIGURE
"Stephan!" Mattie yelled out rushing into her apartnt, she had called upon him the mont he told her the DNA result was ready.
"Stephan! Where the fuck are you?" she cried out looking around but she couldn’t find him anywhere.
"Ste..." she stopped talking, seeing him in the room in just his pants as he sipped his wine gently, looking exhausted.
"St..."
"Why? Did you co here?" he asked her, looking a bit irritated.
"I told you to co here and side this is my apartnt," she let out finding a place to go have her rest.
"Have you gone for a check-up? Do you know how many weeks have passed? Did you even care at all about the pregnancy?" He asked a series of questions and she couldn’t give a response to any.
"I haven’t got the chance to do so," she finally let out.
"Really? Yet that is the fucking reason you are getting married to Julian."
"Stephan, what is your problem? He is a friend of yours he wouldn’t stop you from getting close to the kids he..." Stephan grabbed her by her neck and her eyes widened.
Mattie’s eyes widened in fear as Stephan’s grip on her neck tightened. "Don’t ss with , Mattie," he warned, his voice low and nacing.
She tried to tap his hands, pleading with him to let go. "St... I... Can’t breathe..." she mumbled, her voice barely audible.
Stephan finally released his grip, and Mattie stumbled backward, gasping for air. He turned to the envelope on the table and threw it at her.
"Don’t call
again," he said, his voice cold. "Our relationship ends here."
Mattie’s mind was focused on the result, and she tore open the envelope, her hands trembling. She scanned the file, her eyes widening in shock as she read the last part that broke her heart.
"She wasn’t related to her mother... the result shows 0 percent."
Mattie felt her heart racing, and she stumbled backward, hitting the ground with a loud thud. Stephan rushed to her side, concern etched on his face.
"Hey, what’s wrong?" he asked, trying to help her up.
Mattie’s hands trembled uncontrollably, and she stared into Stephan’s eyes, her voice barely above a whisper. "Look at ... breath..."
But before Stephan could respond, Mattie’s eyes rolled back, and she lost consciousness. Stephan’s eyes widened in alarm as he realized she was bleeding.
"Fuck!" he groaned, quickly picking her up and rushing her to his car. He sped to the hospital, his heart racing with worry.
anwhile, Astrid walked out of the conference room, feeling proud of the team’s accomplishnt.
The design of the building had been reformatted, and it was looking amazing. She had been part of the team, and she felt a sense of pride and fulfillnt.
As she walked out, soone stopped her. "Hi, Samuel," she called, shifting her hands awkwardly because they hadn’t completely healed.
"Oh, sorry, didn’t an to startle you," Samuel replied, looking concerned.
Astrid smiled, trying to reassure him. "Nah, I’m doing fine. Just a little sore."
Samuel nodded, his eyes locked onto hers. "I am glad to hear that. I was worried about you."
Astrid words, and she looked away, trying to compose herself. "Thanks, Samuel. That ans a lot coming from you."
"Well, it’s nice working with you, I hope we work on more cooperation together," Astrid smiled at him, as he acknowledged her.
"I hope to learn more from you too," Samuel nodded and then bid her farewell. It was nightti already and it was ti for her to go ho.
She went to the parking lot and was about to get into her car when her phone buzzed. She checked it to see a ssage from Dr Lee.
"I am not supposed to share this with you, but this is a private report file of a test Mr. Stephan had done for Miss Adam. And to add to it... She is in the hospital right now because of an ergency."
Astrid eyes narrowed at this as she opened the file, it was the DNA result, and her hands trembled seeing this.
She could tell Mattie had done the DNA test, Rowan’s words flashed in her head.
"No... we can’t be sisters." she whispered in shock, "What the fuck is going on?" she thought angrily.
"Thanks, I would like to know the reason she is in the hospital," she sent back and got into her car dialing Rowan’s contact.
After the third ring, he picked up, "Hello... to what do I owe you this call, and do you know how much I lose at every contact I make with you?" She stared at her reflection in the rearview mirror confused.
"What do you an?"
"Your ex husband hates seeing us together and makes my company pay for it," he announced, making hiseyes bulge out.
"What?"
"Why did you call? I was in an important eting, but still couldn’t ignore this call."
"I am sorry for halting your call, Rowan... but it’s about Mattie being my.." she stopped midway and swallowed hard.
"If you want more information I have none," he let out.
"Rowan please, I can’t continue living in a lie... I.."
"Your mum said when it’s ti you will know the truth, don’t you think we should stick with that?"
"Rowan?"
"I only told you the other day so you would stop doubting , I was too shocked to take in murder charges that is why I needed to tell you."
"Rowan... I will find out myself if you don’t tell , I am giving you the chance to say it all now, if you don’t then I will find out myself and not talk to you again for life," Astrid let out and hung up imdiately feeling frustrated.
She stumps her steering continuously, "Damn it!" she screams frustrated, if Tonia isn’t Mattie’s mum it definitely ans that her mum is.
She needed to find a way to get Mattie’s hair to get the DNA done. She thought to herself
"I should go to Mattie," she thought, as she was about to drive out when a figure stopped abruptly in front of her.
Her heart rises and beats fast seeing this figure in a face mask, he is a man in his late twenties dressed in all black with his face covered.
He moved toward her, and her hands trembled... she quickly raised her window as she ignited her car.
She honked her car but the future wanted to live in the front of it. Out of shock she quickly reversed back.
Not caring, she drove off, checking the figure from the rearview mirror.
He stood there with his eyes boring down her car but that didn’t change her mind, she wasn’t risking her life for nothing.
Just then A ssage ca in from Rowan, "4pm tomorrow... I will pick you up." he sent as Astrid sighed, driving down to her villa.
