The next morning, Catherine and Yang Ming moved into a grand house allocated by the Elder Court.
Without others around, the virtuous Catherine was busy organizing their luggage, while Yang Ming, dressed in boxer shorts, sat at the bar, reviewing the data on the projected screen in front of him.
This was the first target the old Emperor had assigned them to assassinate.
What made Yang Ming find it sowhat laughable was that the Emperor had listed hundreds of charges against the Prince, seemingly to lessen their psychological resistance.
Yang Ming could only shake his head.
With such concerns, the Empire couldn’t be twisted into sothing new.
“What are you busy with?”
Catherine wrapped her arms around Yang Ming’s neck from behind, snuggling against his back. Yang Ming did not shy away, but instead gestured with his chin toward the projection screen.
“The Emperor’s second brother, Prince Vinoss, his information.”
Catherine whispered, “Why are you researching him?”
“You ever heard his story?” asked Yang Ming.
“Mhm, the largest estate on the surface belongs to him. I’ve heard from other Supermodified people that this prince is the most brutal one, fond of collecting body parts from males and females, a psychological freak,” Catherine murmured, her lips twitching slightly.
“I heard that this Prince has been applying for a fief, wanting a wealthy Administrative Star as a retirent sanctuary.
“If he really gets his way, that Administrative Star will probably turn into a tragedy.”
“The Emperor told
to take him out,” murmured Yang Ming, stroking his chin.
Catherine frowned slightly, “Is it a direct capture? Are there evidences for these charges here?”
“No, it’s an assassination,” Yang Ming said softly, “What the Emperor ant was, he wanted
and several other young ones to take out the Prince together, as sort of a team-building exercise. Then this record of cris would beco evidence for the Emperor to directly hold us accountable for the Prince’s murder, which would definitely lead to a severe punishnt.”
“Hanton, you really don’t have to…”
“Catherine, this is the path I must take.”
Yang Ming caressed the back of Catherine’s hand, speaking earnestly:
“The only thing I desire now can only be provided by the Emperor.
“I’m telling you this because I want you to understand that I’m not corrupting myself for power, I’m willingly walking into this dark Abyss.
“Further on, I might beco the Emperor’s executioner, but I will exercise restraint and not kill innocently.
“But beyond that, I cannot guarantee anything. The Emperor now wants to establish a force in the shadows, as his confidants.”
Catherine remained silent for a few seconds, “Then I’ll join you, and together, no individual will stand against us.”
“You are too beautiful, Catherine,” Yang Ming said with a smile, pinching her cheek, “The royal family and the Great Nobles are all perverts. Just stay safely behind . I don’t want to have to confront the Emperor because they gaze at you too often. I would feel like it’s a huge loss.”
Catherine couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the sa ti, “Is that a complint? I’ll protect myself, Hanton.”
“I might be a bit patriarchal, but you must listen to
on this,” Yang Ming said earnestly, “Just patrol here honestly and, after the second Spiritual Imprint, you should have a chance to transfer, and I will pressure Director Riva to get you off Emperor Star.”
Catherine bit her lip gently.

Catherine sighed softly and leaned in closer to Yang Ming, wrapping his head in her arms.

The eting was held in a hotel in a common residential area on the surface.
Though called a hotel, it was more like a hostel, where rooms could be reserved in advance without any charges.
Upon arriving, the six people already present maintained their silence.

Even Revelle, who normally got excited seeing Yang Ming, now sat slumped, with his head hanging, barely managing a forced smile when he looked up at Yang Ming.
“What’s wrong with everyone?”
Yang Ming naturally walked to the empty leader’s seat, crossed his legs, and placed his hands in front of his knees.
“Lieutenant Colonel Atro, you are the oldest and most mature here, talk about what we need to be cautious about in this mission.”
“This…”
Lieutenant Colonel Atro looked up at Yang Ming and forced an awkward smile.
“I have no objections, with you here, the mission will surely be successful.”
The others quickly nodded.
Revelle sighed, “I shouldn’t have co here, should have feigned illness like those uncles.”
Yang Ming spoke indifferently, “Since we’re already here, and since the Emperor himself has nad us, let’s not complain. I know you all are under pressure, but once we cross this threshold, there’s no way back. From now on, we’ll be directly serving the Emperor.”
“We are willing to give our all for the great Emperor,” whispered the young man from the Military Departnt, “but the Emperor ordering us to assassinate a Prince—if this gets out, it could lead to a major cri implicating our families.”
The others also took turns speaking:
“After this operation, we’re asked to return to our original positions, and the Emperor will quickly promote us, which will inevitably raise suspicions.”
