Chapter 673: 284 Catherine’s Confusion (Part 3)_3

Yang Ming thought carefully, “In the short term, a political marriage does have benefits, but in the long term, it’s detrintal to our plans.”

“Mm,” Edwan said, “I want to announce the establishnt of a military-political-economic alliance in advance, taking advantage of the ongoing impact of the insect plague. This way, we still have a plausible reason.”

“The conditions aren’t quite ripe yet.”

“Ming, if we wait until our conditions are mature, we might miss this opportunity.”

Edwan shook his head gently, took an alcohol drink from a passing tracked robot’s back, and said softly,

“We should be decisive, and not wait until the Empire fully recovers.

“I’ve already made arrangents with the Foreign Affairs Bureau. When we first announce the alliance, we won’t abandon the title of the Imperial Affiliated Countries.”

Yang Ming rubbed his brow, still sowhat doubtful.

The Imperial Defense System was indeed too powerful.

Yang Ming countered, “What if the Empire turns hostile directly, what do we do?”

“I’ll take the hit,” Edwan replied very decisively, “If the plan fails because of my proposal, naturally, I’ll take responsibility. But if we can control the impact on public opinion, there’s not much chance of failure.”

“Edwan,” Yang Ming’s expression was sowhat serious, “before executing this plan, go and have two children first.”

“Ming, it’s aningless,” Edwan shook his head, “I don’t want inheritance of the throne to appear in my life. My existence is to negate everything of the forr Wind, to remove these two words, ‘Empire,’ for Wind.”

“Being fixated on a system type doesn’t really…”

Buzz, buzz!

Yang Ming’s words were interrupted by the terminal beside him.

He originally thought it was a text ssage from Catherine, but upon opening it, he found Catherine had sent a video directly.

Edwan made a gesture of invitation beside him, leaning on the cushion chair, staring at the sky in a daze, relaxing the fatigue caused by the imnse workload.

Yang Ming had Lyu modify his facial data in the cara, then connected the video; Catherine’s holographic bust appeared before him.

She was sitting in the corner of a patrol ship, behind her was a porthole and a glimpse of Emperor Star’s outline, in front of her was a desk for writing work logs. She propped her right hand on the desk, sighed with a sowhat lancholy expression.

“What’s wrong, Catherine?”

“I’m getting tired of being here,” Catherine said, “I might apply for a transfer, but the Emperor has summoned more supermodified people over, so transferring might be a bit troubleso.”

Yang Ming, of course, would not ask ‘are you unhappy there?’ That was obviously very unhappy already.

“Transferring would be good,” Yang Ming smiled, “I can accompany you to eat, drink, and have fun, and we could travel around.”

“Mm, thank you,” Catherine nodded gently, then softly said, “I have many doubts. I don’t know if these doubts are correct, but I always feel that this place is too depraved now.”

“Depraved? Specifically referring to?”

“No one thinks about how to let the Empire’s people have a better life; no one truly cares about the civilized level upgrade they always shout about. All they have are indulged desires and pursuit of their ridiculous dignity.”

Catherine seed to have opened a chatterbox, constantly talking,

“It shouldn’t be called dignity; it’s hypocritical, aningless. The great nobles and officials I’ve interacted with and seen during this period are all maintaining their so-called dignity.

“In fact, they just want to prove that their existence is aningful in this way.

“But, where’s the aning in that?

“The offices of the administrative institutions are filled with absurd scenes; the forest representing the honor of the Empire has beco a playground for those nobles seeking excitent.

“I don’t know what the aning is of protecting them… I’m loyal to the Empire, Ming, my loyalty to the Empire has never changed. I will firmly carry out my mission.”

Catherine gently exhaled.

“But I feel that the Empire doesn’t need this part.”

“Catherine!” Yang Ming’s face was sowhat stern, “Lower your voice.”

“There’s no one around,” Catherine shrugged, “Relax, I know such thoughts are extrely dangerous, but I find many supermodified people share the sa thoughts as I do. Perhaps, they made a wrong decision by letting us, marked as ideological imprints, co into contact with the core essence of the Empire’s world.”

Yang Ming asked, “What is the essence as you understand it?”

“The majority’s contribution leads to the minority’s enjoynt.”

Catherine sighed,

“The essence of the Empire is oppression.”

Next to him, Edwan raised his thumb.

Yang Ming, however, couldn’t muster a smile.

“Catherine, promise , apply to transfer imdiately,” Yang Ming said, “Don’t say these things to anyone but . It’s very dangerous, especially do not tell Director Riva.”

Catherine smiled wryly, “I understand, Ming, I fully understand. I’m not a baby.”

“First apply for the order, I’ll wait for your news.”

“Mm… love you.”

Catherine ended the communication. This was the shortest they’ve talked in their seven or eight chats.

Yang Ming rubbed his brow.

The disillusionnt of an idealist was indeed troubleso.

By the way, is Emperor Star so decadent? Catherine, who has road and experienced much as the captain of the supermodified people over the years, was still shocked to this extent.

“Lyu, keep a close eye on Emperor Star. Report to

imdiately if anything arises.”

“Yes, boss, but I can’t get too close over there.”

“Just do your best.”
