Chapter 504: Captain Catherine 225_2

Yang Ming asked a rather crucial question, “Why haven’t the Supermodified people acted against the White Ghost before?”

“Because it’s not our responsibility,” Catherine said, “as long as he doesn’t cause trouble in the Emperor Star Circle, it’s handled by the special forces stationed at the Heavenly Fury Fortress. In fact, there are many strong individuals in those special forces, not weaker than the Supermodified people.”

Yang Ming was puzzled, “What’s the difference between Supermodified people and normal Transford?”

“A big difference, Supermodified people are modified starting from the embryo…”

“Cough! Cough cough!”

A middle-aged woman behind them suddenly had a severe cough.

Catherine cleared her throat and laughed sheepishly, “Let’s talk about sothing else.”

Yang Ming glanced at the lady and asked softly, “When eting an online friend, do you have to bring family mbers too?”

Catherine’s fair face showed signs of facial skin capillary dilation, and she stamred, “Um, it’s because we have a group event later, a high-end gathering, so we ca together. It doesn’t interfere… don’t look around.”

“Alright,” Yang Ming nodded calmly, “Where is the high-end group event, can I join?”

“We are Supermodified people. Our ans of entertainnt are, of course, different. Let’s eat first!”

Catherine quickly ended the conversation.

Yang Ming suddenly felt that teasing this socially inexperienced Supermodified girl was quite amusing.

At least it was better than going back to the hotel to watch cody shows late at night to pass the ti.

He began to take control of the conversation, as his earlier probing had revealed Catherine’s points of interest, and shifted the topic to high-tech, life sciences, beauty and hairdressing, and cooking.

Because of Catherine’s frankness, Griss and a few Supermodified people ca over to greet Yang Ming, introducing themselves as Catherine’s friends.

The middle-aged woman remained aloof, leaving midway with two male Supermodified people.

At ten in the evening, Yang Ming, Catherine, Griss, Bryant, along with a female Supermodified person, left the restaurant and headed to the venue for the high-end group event—a panoramic virtual karaoke room.

Yang Ming, although a bit at a loss for words, roughly understood why these Supermodified people appeared.

They were probably just bored and ca out for fun!

“Master,” Bryant took the opportunity while clinking glasses with Yang Ming to communicate directly through spiritual power, “If you have questions about Supermodified people, you can ask

directly. Catherine is too young and doesn’t know much about the insides.”

Yang Ming:…

Tsk, why did he sense a bit of jealousy?

Captain Griss seed very tired. While everyone was excited, he lay down on a soft seat and fell asleep.

Bryant explained, “He put a lot of effort into finding the White Ghost.”

“He’s really dedicated,” Yang Ming said with a squinted smile.

“He is just one step away from the truth,” Bryant mused softly, “but unfortunately, this step is destined to be full of thorns and misdirection.”

Yang Ming glanced at Catherine and the female Supermodified person, two humanoid weapons with imnse destructive power, who were now sitting together swaying like seaweed, singing off-key tunes.

Yang Ming patted Bryant’s arm, and the two sat on either side of Captain Griss.

Enjoying the music.

The deep night on the city outskirts was both quiet and lively.

Five people split into two groups, walking on the suspended observation deck, feeling the refreshing night breeze on their faces, washing away their physical and ntal fatigue.

Bryant, Griss, and another female Supermodified person chatted and laughed in front, while Yang Ming and Catherine tacitly followed behind.

“I turned twenty-one this year,” Catherine said softly.

Yang Ming smiled, “And then?”

“Nothing,” Catherine adjusted the position of her ‘blindfold’ mask, “I can live for another twenty-four years, if I don’t die in battle.”

“Hmm?”

“This is the price of gaining great power,” Catherine said lightly.

Yang Ming’s smile gradually faded, and he asked softly, “Does that feel uncomfortable?”

“Why should it feel uncomfortable,” Catherine laughed, “My life resulted from an experint, and I get to experience forty-five years with Catherine’s persona. What’s there to feel bad about? Don’t compare with others because there’s always sothing you’re lacking.”

“I’ll drink to this bowl of chicken soup.”

“What?”

“It’s a term for inspirational talk,” Yang Ming laughed, “It ans encouraging words.”

“I was just talking about my attitude toward life,” Catherine tilted her little face, “I once told myself to live my limited life as fully as possible and to maximize my value.”

Yang Ming asked curiously, “Don’t you resent the experint’s hosts?”

“Resent, but resentnt is useless, they are, to so extent, also my parents,” Catherine said, “Many radical Supermodified people seek revenge against the experinters, but I think that’s actually wrong.”

“Then what do you believe is the aning of life?”

“Guarding, protecting, allowing more lives to have the opportunity to realize their value.”

Catherine spoke earnestly, “This is the mission entrusted to

by the team that created . Sotis I feel like I’m more of a flesh-and-blood machine, a machine that only knows how to follow orders.

“However, I am essentially human too, a biological manifestation of human genetic material, and also a part of this society.

“What about you? You keep asking about , but I also want to know more about you. What is your goal in life?”

Yang Ming was silent for a few seconds, then smiled, “I want to save the people I hold dear.”

“Is it your family?”

“Not my current family,” Yang Ming effortlessly shifted the topic, “My kind of ordinary life can’t compare to yours.”

“I don’t like the way you chat,” Catherine said sternly, “We are equals, in fact, I am incomplete, and you are whole.”
