Chapter 449: 205 Empire’s Heritage_2
“These were all done under natural conditions?”
“Just like the White Ghost has high-tech support, why can’t there be a team behind the Valkyrie?”
“What do you an, the White Ghost and Valkyrie, are they representatives of two secret families of the Empire?”
“Enough!”
The female officer, with her body weighing over 150 pounds, yelled at almost the human limit decibels:
“All you ever do is fantasize and speculate. Can’t you co up with so constructive suggestions? Hasn’t anyone conducted an investigation? I grant you such high clearance not for you to pick up girls, hook up with lads, or show off in front of the gays about being omnipotent in the fortress?
“Dare you be more useless!”
A group of team captains beca subdued, each shrinking back, playing the hero in silence.
Griss raised his right hand: “I did so investigating.”
The female officer frowned and stared at this guy: “What did you investigate?”
“Look.”
Griss’s ray pen spun twice in his hand, and instantly a fan-shaped chart appeared on the projection screen.
Griss said indifferently:
“No one understands the White Ghost better than I do.
“Look, these are the thirty-six Empire officials who have been reported by the White Ghost up to now. What traits do they have?
“First, their official positions are all Level 3, 4, or 5, without any Level 1 or Second-Level governors, nor any lower-level administrative officials under Level 5.
“Second, the majority of the reported officials are from economically affluent Administrative Stars and far from the Emperor Star Circle.
“Third, the White Ghost is escalating his actions. The general trend in which he reports officials is from low level to high level, from marginal departnts to ones with real power. Next, it wouldn’t be surprising if he reports so Second-Level bigwigs such as heads of Administrative Stars. That’s also the main reason why higher-ups are pressuring us like crazy these days.”
He paused in his speech, and continued:
“From a personal perspective, I think the White Ghost did a splendid job.
“But from the standpoint of procedural justice, the White Ghost severely provoked the current judicial system, shedding bad light on the Empire’s face. He is sacrificing the governnt’s credibility to enhance his personal influence.”
The female superior said: “No matter what his motive is, this step is a mistake. He has offended the entire bureaucratic class; officials will never rest easy with his existence.”
Griss sighed.
The female superior asked: “Then what do you think his advantage is in doing this? Just to gain public praise and satisfy his vanity?”
“It’s not,” Griss said, “his aim is likely to elevate his status in the hearts of the people and to leverage public opinion to bind the Empire.”
“Why?” a captain asked, full of confusion.
Griss said with a smile: “If you were the White Ghost, what would your fate be after being captured by the Imperial Special Forces?”
“To be studied.”
“Locked in a nutrition pod.”
“Fuck! The mories of death suddenly start attacking ; let’s not ntion nutrition pods!”
Half of the transford people captains fell silent.
Griss said:
“He’s afraid that after surrendering to the Empire, he will end up in such a situation, so he keeps escalating the issue.
“He’s trying to catch the eye of the very top; once the attention from above cos down, everything will completely change.
“The current political situation of the Empire dictates that the higher the position, the more weight is given to public opinion, and the fate of the White Ghost can be decided by just one word from above.”
The female superior muttered: “You an to say, as long as we gain the trust of the White Ghost, make him believe we will not harm him, not dissect him for research or keep him detained long-term, he might be willing to cooperate with us?”
“Is it not so?” Griss asked, “Can you guarantee it?”
The female superior sighed: “Of course not; in fact, so above are very interested in the capabilities shown by him and the Valkyrie.”
“Look, this is the White Ghost’s predicant.”
Griss spread his hands: “If we can’t earn his trust, the only option left is to find a way to break his technological edge.”
Soone said: “He has had too much access through cyberinformation theft, half of the Empire’s officials are now living in fear, the bureaucracy has ford into panic, the public is gradually boiling, and this may lead to a political disaster.”
The female superior glared at Griss.
This guy talked on and on, his analysis was thorough, but he had no useful solutions.
“Report!”
A shout ca from the doorway; the female superior turned her head to look, and gestured for the ssenger to co in.
She took the gold-edged docunt from the hands of the ssenger, glanced at it briefly, her expression changing several tis, and then she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Alright, let’s end today’s eting here. We need not worry about the White Ghost anymore; resu normal training.”
The group of transford people captains looked puzzled, but seeing the female superior waving them off, they stood up, saluted, and quickly left the eting room.
“Griss, stay.”
Griss spread his hands, complaining to his colleague who cast a schadenfreude look at him: “Being exceptional has its downsides; always getting special attention from above.”
“Get outta here!”
A group of n and won burst into laughter.
The female superior looked at Griss, gestured him forward, and tossed the paper into his lap.
“Pack your bags, prepare to report to the Emperor Star. You’ve been selected to join the White Ghost response team; you will serve the 402 regint of the Imperial Guard.”
“Huh? The 402 regint?”
Griss’s eyes bulged, but he quickly ca to terms with it.
With the increasing ss caused by the White Ghost, it was within reason that the Empire deployed the legendary supermodified soldiers regint.
Their Special Forces were just cannon fodder.
To truly see the pinnacle of the Milky Way’s technological might, you’d still have to look at the narrow but extrely crowded Star Domain of the Emperor Star Circle.
