Soft music began to play.
Jiang Zilan opened her eyes and glanced at her phone.
It was six in the morning.
Normally, at this ti, she would get up to morize so material and start her day with morning reading.
But today—
"Did sothing happen last night?"
She yawned and asked.
A voice quietly erged by her ear:
"Last night was spectacular."
"Spectacular?" Jiang Zilan repeated.
"From the mont you returned to the dormitory, there were fierce battles, fugitive blockbusters, ferrying souls across the Naihe Bridge, and the Double Demons clashing in succession, tsk tsk, just like a movie," the voice said.
"Tell about it," Jiang Zilan said.
The voice then vividly recounted the entire night’s events.
While Jiang Zilan listened, she sat up in bed, first tying her hair with a headband before getting dressed and washing up.
By the ti she had finished applying a light makeup and was fully ready, the story had co to an end.
"It seems being an underworld worker isn’t easy," Jiang Shanglan sighed.
The voice said, "Anyway, if he hadn’t been standing outside the dorm last night, you might have had to use your power."
Jiang Shanglan fell silent.
Using power on ordinary people would imdiately lead to a loss of lifespan and banishnt to the Naihe Bridge.
Being sealed there was quite unbearable.
Even if one were to reincarnate—
In the next life, one would inevitably be trapped in a state unable to control oneself, not even knowing when one might awaken their mories.
Or perhaps never awakening those mories until death once again.
Then one would eternally wander through the life and death of the virtual world, with little chance of ever recovering.
Indeed, she owed Little Wu a favor.
He kept watch through the night, braving battles that raged like stormy seas and saved her once again.
He preserved for her the ordinary human life she cherished.
One must repay kindness with a spring of gratitude.
Plus, she had felt quite comfortable with him yesterday.
Perhaps...
Becoming his girlfriend?
Jiang Zilan looked at the beautiful girl in the mirror, gently biting her lip.
...
On the bridge.
The Lion King held an electric razor, making "zzzzip zzzzap" sounds as he shaved his beard.
"Oh razor, my razor, do you think our combination can take down that weakened monster?"
He asked.
The electric razor made a sound:
"The current probability of success for the four-person combo is 35%."
Elder Wu and Granny Yin both looked delighted upon hearing this.
"Previously, we only had a 13% chance. With the addition of the All Worlds’ Venerate, the probability has shot up by so much!" Elder Wu said with a smile.
Wu Xiaode scanned the three of them and suddenly asked:
"I recall there should be six Heavenly Venerates. Where are the other two?"
A 35% chance of victory was way too low.
And that was just to win.
What about the probability of their survival?
How many would remain alive after this battle?
The Lion King didn’t even bother to ask.
His silence indicated that the outlook wasn’t promising.
"One is gravely injured and hasn’t recovered; the other doesn’t wish to participate, so only the four of us will join the battle," Elder Wu explained.
"Fine, I can join in, but what’s in it for if we win?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Is there sothing you desire?" Granny Yin inquired.
"I want—" Wu Xiaode considered for a mont before saying, "I want to know how to expel a demon spirit from a person’s body or to eradicate it."
"Easy, I happen to know a secret technique that can do just that," Granny Yin said.
"Really?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Truly," Granny Yin nodded.
In mid-air.
The Judgent Angel suddenly lowered her gaze to the notebook in front of her.
Reading the erging lines of text, she said:
"Malicious deception confird."
"Deception between cosmic life forms concerns the survival of two worlds, so the cri is increased by ten degrees, reducing rit by 10 points."
"You may execute heavenly punishnt imdiately, or continue to observe the other party’s behavior and decide to administer heavenly punishnt at a later mont."
Wu Xiaode’s expression shifted.
Not wanting to expose the two angels any longer to these individuals, he had already shrouded them in the veil of Evernight City.
So now, only he knew what they were saying.
—Granny Yin was deceiving him.
He did indeed require rit to enhance his strength, but to fight alongside soone so maliciously intent, wouldn’t he be dood to betrayal?
Wu Xiaode’s gaze shifted, first landing on Granny Yin, then moving to the Lion King.
Both of these characters were full of cunning sches.
He’d already given his word, and to go back on it now would not only break the code of the streets, but a direct refusal... might make them think he was playing them, possibly leading them to do who knows what...
With this thought, Wu Xiaode said:
"I haven’t completed my soul-ferrying task today, and besides, I have injuries. How about we wait a few days? Once I’m fully recuperated, we can go and kill that monster, it won’t be too late."
"I was just about to address your work," the Lion King spoke up, "Your soul-ferrying is crucial for the ’Virtual World’ and yields incredibly generous rewards. I was thinking, perhaps we could join in and get a piece of the action."
"This..." Elder Wu hesitated, "I do indeed need so resources, but ultimately it’s up to young friend Wu to decide."
"How much can he use by himself?" Granny Yin chid in quickly, "We should all share in it, so we have the strength to kill that monster."
Wu Xiaode thought for a mont, then replied, "Are you really willing to help out? I don’t tolerate any sand in my eyes. If you truly can assist , I may consider it."
—The situation on Naihe Bridge was too complex and volatile.
Who knew what kind of terrifying entities he would encounter today!
If a few people were to lend a Fist—
He was contemplating this when he saw the Lion King shake his head and say:
"The Naihe Bridge requires special authority to access. We can’t enter,"
"Can’t enter? Then how can you fight alongside ?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Who said anything about fighting together?" Granny Yin retorted.
"Then how can you help ?" Wu Xiaode pressed further.
The Lion King and Granny Yin exchanged glances.
Elder Wu’s face showed a hint of embarrassnt.
Granny Yin shook her head and said:
"It’s not us helping you, but you helping us—"
"The rewards you get from completing the transcendence task, you’ll contribute them to help us restore so of the world’s resources. That way, we can exert more strength when dealing with monsters later on."
The Lion King also said, "Right, I’ve checked. Those resources are extrely precious. Instead of you hoarding them all, it’s better for us all to share."
Wu Xiaode was stunned for a mont.
After all this fuss, they can’t provide any help and just want to benefit from ?
If we were close, saving each other out of this ss wouldn’t be a problem.
But with the Lion King’s previous targeting and Granny Yin’s sches, these kinds of tactics have been employed, and they still want to profit from ?
"Sorry," Wu Xiaode said with a faint smile, "It’s not about hoarding, but you all wanting a free lunch."
"I refuse."
The atmosphere suddenly beca tense.
Seeing this, Elder Wu hurriedly tried to smoothen things over:
"All right, all right. If Little Wu doesn’t want to, then let’s forget it. Let’s all go back and adjust our states, and et in a few days to take on that weakened monster together."
But the Lion King didn’t move.
Granny Yin’s expression was dark as water, her eyes shadowed as she stared at Wu Xiaode.
The Lion King picked up an electric razor, and while looking at Wu Xiaode, asked:
"Oh electric razor, among the four of us, who’s the weakest?"
The electric razor replied:
"The world power of the Venerate of All Worlds is the weakest!"
"...Got it," said the Lion King with a vicious smile creeping across his face.
Granny Yin let out a heh, and followed up:
"I suggest you rethink this."
Wu Xiaode moved his neck around and said expressionlessly:
"We are all adults here, shouldn’t you consider your own life and death?"
"Too bad, if we really fight, you’ll be the one to die," the Lion King stepped forward and emphasized nacingly.
Granny Yin’s cane also began to emit a faint glow.
——Inside the Virtual World, one cannot lay hands on mortals, but beings of world-class life forms can fight each other.
The razor does not lie.
This kid is not strong enough, but his bluff is impressive.
Teach him a lesson!
Wu Xiaode was too lazy to talk nonsense, his body brimming with killing intent, he sneered:
"I wonder if you’ll end up at Naihe Bridge when you die..."
He laid his hand on the hilt of his sword.
The Lion King’s pupils shrank suddenly.
——It seems this kid is truly fearless!
He’s really going all out!
Damn it, I’m out of options now. Surely, I can’t apologize to him, can I? How am I supposed to hold my head up after that?
No choice but to fight then!
Granny Yin thought the sa.
But just then, a sudden change occurred——
From the pocket of Wu Xiaode, a green knife suddenly flew out.
Before anyone could make sense of it, the knife burst with two fierce slashes.
"Ah——"
"You——"
Two screams rang out and quickly faded away, becoming inaudible.
Struck by the knife, both the Lion King and Granny Yin transford into shooting stars, it’s unknown where they were cut to.
"Not good, they might actually die!"
Elder Wu imdiately gave chase.
On the bridge, only Wu Xiaode was left standing there.
He was montarily stunned.
——He had been prepared for a good fight.
But the outco——
What knife was this?
He caught the floating knife and took a look, then he realized.
It was Jiang Shanglan’s knife.
She had wanted to trade his notebook, allowing him to pick an item from her bag.
He had chosen this knife.
——So, had she woken up?
Wu Xiaode looked towards the river, where the morning sun had already broken through the clouds, casting a beautiful daylight.
Drip, drip, drip.
His phone rang.
"Hello?" ca a female voice.
——It was Jiang Shanglan.
"Was it you who made the move just now?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Your underworld job is too tough, what with all the workplace bullying. I really do feel for you," the female voice giggled.
"...In the world of mortals, it can’t be helped," Wu Xiaode sighed.
"If it’s so hard, why don’t you quit?" the female voice suggested.
"It won’t work. Resources are needed everywhere. Without working, where would I get resources?" Wu Xiaode shrugged.
There was silence on the other end, as if sothing was brewing.
"I’m hanging up if there’s nothing else," Wu Xiaode said.
"Wait a minute," the female voice hurriedly interjected.
"Is there sothing else?" Wu Xiaode asked.
Another pause.
After a while, the girl’s voice ca through the phone again.
She said to him:
"Quit your job. I’ll support you."
