The Devil didn’t respond and muttered:
"Guardian Mountain of the Evil Power Land, heed my call, descend here."
The Void opened.
In the boundless darkness, an enormous vertical pupil, about the height of a five-story building, appeared and looked down upon the king of Evil Ghosts.
"Co, protect this mountain, and ensure it isn’t affected by earthquakes. Keep everything on it as safe as before; this is your duty," said the Devil of Evil Ghost King Rester.
Its fox head said, "Co, don’t worry. This place is already covered by the Demon Mist of death. Nothing can see you. rge with this mountain with confidence."
Upon hearing this, the vertical pupil retreated and vanished into the deep black Void.
A mont later.
The Void suddenly split open.
A dark torrent surged out from the Void, and as soon as it touched the ground, it imdiately penetrated into the earth, sinking deep and vanishing from sight.
The woman’s head interjected, "The Evil Giant can rge with the mountain and protect it from any harm, but what about those who dare to move against our master? Shall we let them go?"
"Of course not, or else our coming here would have been in vain," roared the fox head.
The woman’s head glanced into the Void and sneered:
"Those people are sitting in a courtyard at the foot of the mountain, filled with big shots from this world’s governnt departnts and heads of so organizations."
"What shall we do?" considered the Devil head.
"Let’s burst so soldiers," suggested the woman’s head.
"Won’t that make too much noise?"
"Never mind that. Killing them to put our master at ease, that’s what we should consider," she replied.
"Right."
The three heads had made their decision.
Both the fox and the woman then closed their mouths.
The Devil opened its mouth, chanting softly:
"All malevolent spirits and devils of the Dark Evil Domain, obey my command, co to this main world to slaughter mortals for the ultimate feast and delight, co to now—"
Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud!
Five oddly shaped monsters appeared on the ground.
They looked like mutated wild beasts—
but with sharper claws, more pointed teeth, their bodies enveloped in corrosive poison mist, and various elental powers, exuding a cruelty and brutality unlike ordinary beasts.
The Devil head continued chanting:
"Co, co, co, co, co..."
The rapid, ceaseless sounds filled the air.
Countless evil monsters densely packed the courtyard, crossing over the courtyard wall and spreading towards the barren mountains.
In just a few monts.
The mountains were swarming with Demon Soldiers.
At this point, the Devil head stopped chanting.
The Evil Ghost King roared, "Go, kill them all!"
The monsters then turned and charged down the mountain together.
Leaving behind the Evil Ghost King standing quietly in place.
After a few monts.
It suddenly said, "The earthquake is coming, let not even a hair’s breadth of damage befall the Taoist Temple."
A giant vertical pupil erged on the ground.
Followed soon by a deep, powerful response:
"As you command—"
The next instant.
The ground began to shake violently.
But this lasted only a second before it stopped abruptly, making one wonder if what had just transpired was rely an illusion.
The forecourt.
Wu Xiaode found several clean blankets in the guest room of the Taoist Temple and laid them out in front of several people:
"I’m sorry, the guest rooms aren’t ready; fortunately, these blankets have been sunned. If you don’t mind, make do with these here; it’s still rather warm."
Elder Zhao hesitated, "Mr. Wu, about the earthquake just now—"
"It’s fine, we often have such minor earthquakes here, it’s been like this for many years, no need to worry," Wu Xiaode waved his hand dismissively.
The others exchanged glances.
"Miss, you should rest for a while. I’ll stay here, and if anything happens, I’ll wake you," Elder Zhao said.
"Thank you, Elder Zhao, and everyone. I’ll doze off for a mont," she replied.
Feixue, already pregnant, had also gone through several days of being chased and was utterly exhausted. She lay down and slept in her clothes.
She soon fell asleep.
Wu Xiaode waited for a while before looking down at his watch.
The solitary hand on the dial slowly slid from "danger" to "safe."
They were finally safe!
The Book of the Dead opened, revealing a row of ice crystal letters:
"Today’s protection is now complete."
"When the other party is in a safe environnt, you can activate the watch’s ’One Hand Covers the Sky’ power at any ti to return to the future."
Return now?
That doesn’t seem right.
Wu Xiaode looked around him.
There were seven or eight people nearby; though he could leave in an instant using the power of the watch, wouldn’t that be too shocking for those present?
As Wu Xiaode pondered, he saw Elder Zhao approaching with a golden card in both hands, saying softly,
"Daoist Master Wu, no matter how the lady thanks you in the future, this is a small token from our company’s chairman. Please do not refuse it."
Wu Xiaode glanced at the card.
With Ulysses’s collection and the Bone Dragon’s boutique collection on him, eting daily needs shouldn’t be a problem.
But...
So were treasures of the Demon Gods, others were valuable collections from the Death World.
They weren’t suitable to be brought out.
"Thank you, thank you," Wu Xiaode said cheerfully as he took the card, "Our Taoist Temple’s main gate needs so repairs."
"Also, if the local mountain people suffered any losses, please help them relocate and save them from their misery, as this disaster was brought about by your involvent."
"Ah? Yes, yes, no problem!"
Elder Zhao, taken aback, agreed readily.
—The other party was a highly reclusive expert, who must have had his reasons for acting this way.
Having settled the affairs, Wu Xiaode stood up, addressing everyone,
"You can descend the mountain after resting for a night. As for , I have other matters to attend to and will leave first. We will et again soday."
"Daoist Master, how can we find you?" Elder Zhao asked.
Wu Xiaode pondered briefly.
This ti they had found this place thanks to a jade tablet left by the Queen Mother of the West, the temple master of the Taoist Temple.
Next ti, they would not be able to find Feixue.
—He had used the power of four Demon Gods in this battle.
Who knew what the future might hold?
Preparations must be made in advance.
"Give one of your mobile numbers; I’ll drop by for tea when I’m less busy."
"Of course, Daoist Master, you’re always welco," Elder Zhao replied while fetching his phone.
Strangely, the phone had no signal whatsoever.
Was it being blocked?
He pondered silently as he reported his mobile number to Wu Xiaode.
Wu Xiaode took the number, walked out of the temple, swaggered away from the temple, and vanished into the stormy night.
A night without incident.
At dawn, Feixue and Elder Zhao, along with the others, descended the mountain.
Reaching the foot of the mountain, everyone was astounded.
Looking at the surroundings, Feixue gasped, unable to help but say,
"Elder Zhao, I now understand what he ant by settling the mountain people."
"Hmm, it is truly unexpected; we are fortunate indeed," Elder Zhao sighed.
"It seems he knew what was happening outside all along."
"It must be so."
The highway below the mountain was fractured in several places, houses collapsed, and fields sunk into the ground.
—It was a terrifying earthquake.
The group looked back at the mountain.
The mountain was lush and verdant, with intertwining cypress and pine, everything just as it had always been.
"Daoist Master Wu..." Feixue murmured softly.
