Cave.
Entrance.
Sand... Sand...
A human officer walked out from the bushes.
He stared at the cave entrance, his voice hoarse as he said,
"This is the place."
At the entrance of the cave, a black behemoth with tentacles all over its body continued to reach into it, as if searching for sothing.
The area was full of various monsters.
The human officer seed not to see them, taking one step at a ti and walking forward.
The monsters let out a collective howl, filled with killing intent.
The black behemoth imdiately turned its head and eyed the human officer.
A deep hunger appeared on its face, and in an instant, it thrust out a dense mass of tentacles, surrounding the human officer completely.
The human officer was expressionless, even just standing there motionlessly.
Those dense tentacles touched him, seemingly about to kill him, but the next second—
Boom!
A black torrent erupted from the human officer, sweeping across all directions instantaneously, enveloping all the monsters.
"Do you... want to die?"
He whispered.
Those tentacles withdrew as if struck by sothing, quickly retracting in a flash.
The tentacles of the black behemoth retracted entirely, clinging tightly to its body as it trembled and knelt on the ground.
"Eat , why don’t you eat ?" the human officer taunted.
The behemoth didn’t dare to respond, rely kneeling on the ground, its whole body bowed before the human officer.
All the monsters took a step back, pressing their bodies tightly against the ground.
They all sounded a low, whimpering sound.
—It was like they were begging for rcy.
The human officer continued walking forward expressionlessly.
He glanced once at the entrance of the cave, seeming to notice that it was blocked, then ca back and stood beside the behemoth again.
He reached out his hand and gently stroked the behemoth’s head, saying,
"Keep exploring, and send down when you find humans."
"Yes!" the behemoth replied with a deep voice.
All the monsters sprang up from the ground and charged manically toward the cave, beginning to dig with all their might at the collapsed passage.
...
Elsewhere.
Deep underground.
T5 tunnel, Storage Room 1.
The group regrouped.
"There are quite a few corpses in that cave we found, all soldiers, it seems like they fought sothing." the gunner said.
"It’s too deep inside, we couldn’t reach the end, so we thought to co back first and then make a plan." Ying also said.
"The cave we checked out had nothing in it." Wu Xiaode shrugged.
"Right, it was a very spacious area, with nothing in it." the squad leader concurred.
Xiao Baihong tossed over a few cans.
The group also felt so hunger and proceeded to open the cans and eat.
However, the squad leader didn’t eat.
She sat with her head lowered, her brows furrowed, as if pondering sothing.
Wu Xiaode, after eating for a while, found the taste quite good.
The Book of the Dead also displayed a line of ice crystal small print:
"Through eating and resting, your Soul Power has recovered sowhat."
"Current Soul Power: 4/11."
Still too little.
Wu Xiaode simply walked over to a corner, sat down on the ground, and began to rest.
"Little Wu, you rest up, I’ll call you if sothing happens," Ying said, concerned.
All were nodding in agreent.
Indeed, as a martial artist, he had always been at the front line, and it was only natural for him to take a break now.
"Okay, call if there’s anything."
Wu Xiaode said and then closed his eyes to rest.
The gunner lowered his head, slowly eating his can of food.
After a while, he too walked over to the corner, squatted down, and said, "I’m going to rest for a while too, Ying, why don’t you and Xiao Baihong go back there for another look."
"You’ve been driving the train for too long, you should indeed rest a bit, if Elder Xiao is out of Soul Power, I’ll go alone." Ying said.
"We’ll go together, I was getting restless staying here alone." Xiao Baihong laughed.
"Let’s go then," Ying stood up and said.
"Be careful, if there’s a situation you can’t handle, retreat imdiately." the squad leader admonished.
"Don’t worry."
The two of them got up, one after the other, and left the storage room, heading into the depths of the tunnel.
In Storage Room 1, only the squad leader, the gunner, and Wu Xiaode were left.
Wu Xiaode leaned against the wall and was sleeping soundly, even snoring softly.
So ti passed.
Wu Xiaode’s snoring grew louder.
Only then did the gunner lift his head and whispered, "Squad leader, there’s actually sothing I’ve been keeping from you. Since there’s not many people around now, I think I should tell you."
"Oh? What is it?" the squad leader asked.
"There’s a strange docunt in the train’s cockpit, I don’t know what it is, to avoid causing panic, I didn’t ntion it." the gunner said.
"I’ll take a look," the squad leader stood up and said.
"I’ll go with you," the gunner said.
"You don’t have to go, Little Wu is resting, soone needs to watch over him," the squad leader said.
"Right, then I’ll stay here with him," the gunner said.
"Good."
The squad leader left the storage room and walked toward the platform they had co from.
Now.
Only the gunn and Wu Xiaode were left in Warehouse 1.
All was quiet once more.
Leaning against the wall, the gunman closed his eyes and continued to feign sleep.
Ti silently and slowly passed.
At a certain mont.
The gunman’s eyeballs moved slightly.
He seed to be waiting for sothing.
One breath.
Two breaths.
Three breaths.
Boom——
A violent explosion sounded.
Wu Xiaode jumped up from the ground, posed in a boxing stance, and shouted loudly, "What’s happening?"
"I don’t know! Let’s go and check!" the gunman also got up in a hurry and said.
The two rushed out of the warehouse door, only to see that the platform had collapsed, and the whole tunnel was shaking nonstop.
This was deep underground.
Even for a professional, being buried in such a place would likely offer a slim chance of survival.
"Captain! Where are the captain and the others?" Wu Xiaode yelled.
"She seems to have gone towards the train—that she said you were asleep and asked to watch over you here, not allowing to go over," the gunman said.
"It’s over, with such a violent explosion, the tunnel collapsed, her chances are slim," Wu Xiaode lanted.
"Not necessarily, the captain is very strong, maybe she is unhard," said the gunman.
"But it doesn’t withstand soone wanting to kill her," Wu Xiaode said.
The gunman’s expression tightened, and he raised his gun and shot towards Wu Xiaode.
Crack!
Suddenly, a hand extended from the Void and slapped hard on the muzzle of the gun.
Dirty magic hand!
Ratatatatat——
The submachine gun spat out fire snakes, but their direction was skewed by that slap, missing Wu Xiaode and hitting the warehouse door instead.
At the sa ti.
From the Void behind the gunman, a delicate hand reached out and gently placed an immobilization talisman on his back.
The gunman imdiately beca immobilized.
"Immobilization talisman!" he cried out in disbelief.
A mist manifested from the Void and quickly dissipated, revealing the captain’s figure.
"Do you want to kill , gunman?" the captain asked calmly.
The gunman mumbled in shock, "No, this is impossible, only when you went towards the train and the train’s cara recognized your face would the train explode——"
From the collapsed tracks, a rustling sound ca.
Another captain erged from beneath the rubble, completely unhard.
As she walked, she suddenly transford into Wu Xiaode, and spoke, "The decoy mission has been completed."
The gunman stopped talking.
"Answer , why did you want to kill ?" the captain asked.
She took out another talisman and affixed it to the gunman’s body.
The gunman’s expression imdiately beca vacant, and he said, "You are the empire’s strongest force; your death would smooth the progress of our plan."
"What plan?"
"To take control of the entire empire, make everyone join the Holy Sect, and activate the stairway to heaven."
"So it’s the people from the Holy Sect, my apologies," the captain said with a mock courtesy.
The captain stretched out her hand and slapped the gunman hard on the back of his heart.
The gunman spat out a mouthful of blood, fell to the ground, and stopped breathing.
"Thanks to you this ti, Little Wu," the captain said.
She took out a handkerchief and gently wiped her hands.
"It’s nothing," Wu Xiaode said.
"Ever since the bone dragon incident, we’ve been commissioned by the royal family because they offered a high price, wouldn’t you say?" the captain inquired.
Now Wu Xiaode found it difficult to answer.
To agree would seem like the captain was greedy for money.
Disagreeing would seem disrespectful to the captain—especially after she had just killed a man to assert her authority.
"Whatever his reasons for harming you, given the difficult situation at hand, we can’t afford to have untrustworthy people by our side," Wu Xiaode said.
"Indeed," agreed the captain.
On the other side of the tunnel, Ying and Xiao Baihong flew back.
"What happened?" Ying asked.
Wu Xiaode recounted the whole story.
Both sighed deeply.
Boom——
An even larger collapse began.
Mud and sand fell down, swiftly burying the nearby tracks.
The four had no choice but to retreat back into the warehouse.
"Hey, we’re not going to get buried here and wait to die, are we?" Xiao Baihong asked with an anxious look.
"The gunman just wanted to kill the captain, he didn’t intend to commit suicide," Wu Xiaode said calmly.
"He knows much about chanics and engineering; he wouldn’t put himself in danger," Ying speculated.
Seeing their composed appearance, Xiao Baihong couldn’t help but exhale deeply and mumbled:
"I always thought he was a fool, as he was very shrewd about so things but completely clueless about others."
"What things?" Wu Xiaode asked.
Click!
A crack opened on the ceiling.
A slender tentacle extended silently, quickly feeling around the walls as if searching for sothing.
Xiao Baihong covered her forehead and said, "That’s precisely it."
