"Elder Xiao, what's the rush? The real show has just begun." The speaker was none other than Bai Yunfei, who had returned to the continent with Xiao Buli. He had been stationed within the Mass Burial Mound for so ti, and the number of zombies around him had grown from a dozen to several hundreds. After all, what this place didn't lack was corpses.
Xiao Buli didn't bother with small talk and approached Bai Yunfei, grasped his hand, pointed the scepter, and they returned to the battlefield. The reason Bai Yunfei hadn't been shown to everyone was not only because Bai Yunfei was now considered an NPC, but also because among the players, there were those who recognized Bai Yunfei. However, Bai Yunfei in his current state didn't wish to face them anymore.
Xiao Buli positioned Bai Yunfei in Han Wenhuan's commanding spot, and by that ti, the army had already formally engaged in battle. Leading the first wave of attack was the Qingyang Empire's 30,000-strong NPC army.
As the saying goes, an army over ten thousand was sprawling and endless. This 30,000-strong army spread out in a loose formation. If there were caras available to offer an aerial shot at that mont, one would have been able to truly appreciate this spectacle, truly vast and boundless.
The NPC army began their march from the dense forests surrounding Bull Rush Plain, advancing toward the Teleportation Portal from left, center, and right flanks. The soldiers lined up in a single file, opting for a dispersed formation with very distant spacing between each other. Led by nurous NPC generals and players, they moved forward slowly but resolutely.
Such a spread-out formation would certainly be at a disadvantage in close combat since the wide gaps between troops ant delayed assistance. However, in battle against the Ancestral Dragon, this formation had a definitive advantage under the onslaught of modern weapons.
In the midst of conversation, the army was now less than a kiloter away from Bull Rush Plain's defense line. At such a close distance, it would be like blindness if the vast size of the army still hadn't been detected.
With the war situation at various Ancestral Dragon territories becoming dire and troop movents frequent, these soldiers were always on high alert. On sighting such a massive array of troops suddenly appearing, they imdiately deployed heavy weapons.
A shrill screech tore across the sky, followed by a loud explosion that burst amidst the Qingyang army ranks. With that cannon fire, the prelude to the war was truly struck.
The Qingyang archers imdiately began to retaliate, and a torrent of arrows rained down on the Ancestral Dragon army, but given the great distance between them, only the higher-leveled archers could reach the enemy position with their arrows. Most fell short of the line.
The Ancestral Dragon side wasn't idle either. Following the first cannon shot, explosions rang out in rapid succession. The modern weapons not only had long range but also powerful lethality. Even the trees and stones on the ground beca hazardous projectiles in the blast waves.
The advantage of the dispersed formation beca apparent then. Although the vast coverage area of the army ant each cannon shot was almost guaranteed to hit, the wide spacing between each soldier lessened the actual casualties despite the bombardnt sounding intense.
Following Xiao Buli was a team of over forty people assigned to the rush for the Teleportation Portal. Xiao Buli had previously pinpointed the portal's location. Seeing the battle already underway, he knew that the portal's defense would be at its weakest. He checked the map, confird the direction, waved his hand, and the Black Dragon erged with a roar, soaring imposingly around Xiao Buli.
"Alright, it's our turn to make a move. Aerial assault team, follow ."
As he spoke, he leapt onto the giant dragon's head, grabbing onto a pair of its horns to steady himself. Initially, the others were apprehensive about riding a dragon, especially in the face of the Black Dragon's dominating presence. Now, seeing Xiao Buli taking the lead, they looked at one another, and those with greater courage also leapt up after him.
The Black Dragon seed a bit displeased at a stranger mounting it, its body visibly shivering for a mont. The person extended both arms to balance themself and managed to stabilize their posture. Xiao Buli felt the slight resistance from the Black Dragon and imdiately issued a command to it through his mind. Only then, albeit reluctantly, did the dragon hover in the air. Seeing the person jump on safely, the others cast aside their apprehensions and one after another, they leapt onto it.
With a body over two hundred ters long, seating several dozen people on the Black Dragon didn't seem crowded at all. Once everyone was securely seated, Xiao Buli commanded the dragon to take off. The impatient Black Dragon suddenly raised its head and shot into the sky as quick as lightning.
"Shoot, give it everything you've got!" Li Yue shouted into his headset while constantly moving his mouse, the sound of the keyboard and mouse clicks filling the Ancestral Dragon's basent, creating a persistent din.
This was one of the many server rooms of the Ancestral Dragon. Like the others defined by their specialization, this room was filled exclusively with players of the Hunter class. Unlike other Hunters, however, these Hunters wielded automatic rifles. Already being soldiers in reality, everyone was familiar with firearms, and, after learning passive skills like precision shooting and rapid reload in the ga, they had ford a modern-equipped army in the Absolute Death Ga, set against the background of ancient China's Immortal Heroes. Now, faced with the onslaught of the NPC army, every person bore an automatic rifle, unleashing a barrage on the incoming enemy troops.
Li Yue felt that using firearms in this ga was similar to playing CS, though it was more akin to third-person shooters. For a mont, he seed to be back in his school days, skipping classes with his buddies to play CS in the internet cafe.
However, these NPC soldiers were just too fearless, not even halted by the initial cannon fire, charging directly to the defensive line as if they had no regard for their lives. Cannons were for long range and weren't effective close up. If they had recoiled in place, they might have actually been annihilated, but the more fearless they beca, the quicker they moved out of the cannons' effective range.
There was no choice but to fight back-to-back. Just then, another group of soldiers charged at them, right when Li Yue was in the perilous mont of reloading his weapon.
"Damn, I can't hold them off," Li Yue exclaid in panic. At this crucial mont, a burly figure suddenly burst forth beside him, firing a Remington shotgun repeatedly. The powerful knock-back effect sent the enemies flying in just a few shots.
"Haha, this is aweso!" The excited shout of a teammate rang out beside him.
Li Yue heaved a sigh of relief, but as he looked forward, he was imdiately struck with terror and yelled, "Don't celebrate too soon, it's not over yet!"
He saw the fallen NPC soldiers getting up again. Their bellies had been ripped open by gunfire, intestines spilling out, yet they staggered forward relentlessly.
Li Yue imdiately took aim and swept fire across them, but the bodies, which should have been corpses, not only didn't slow down, they actually picked up speed.
"What the hell is this? What is this, Resident Evil?" The teammate who had just helped Li Yue quickly began blasting at the bodies, but even with half their heads blown off, the corpses kept coming.
Li Yue quickly zood out his view to assess the surroundings and soon spotted the issue: "It's those Corpse-Driving Warlocks, they're resurrecting the bodies. Snipers, take note, take them out!"
Li Yue shouted into his microphone, urging on Mike, then hastily proceeded to handle the situation before him. The bodies had approached him closely, and although unard, their grotesque appearances still caused Li Yue to beco flustered.
