"What? There are spells in this world?"

Liu Xuanzhen nodded, "That was three months ago when I had just been sent here. Our group was assigned a task to kill a very powerful monster. That monster was incredibly tough, its body hard as iron, impervious to knives and spears. We put in a lot of effort and lost many n without success; everyone died including the instructor, and only I survived. The monster looked much like a Zombie I had read about in a book, so I used a little Dharma thod, and it actually worked.

After killing that monster, I found a Taoist Book on its body. Fortunately, I had read quite a few Taoist Scriptures before, so I was able to understand it. To my surprise, after finishing the book, I learned the spells within it. The book's na is 'Five Prisons Thunder Scripture.' That Palm Thunder just now was rely a junior spell from it."

(If a junior spell is this powerful, how strong must the advanced spells be?) Luo Sen couldn't help but think.

"How could a Zombie have a Taoist Book on it? Could it be that the Zombie was a high-ranking Taoist adept in its past life?" Wang Wenbo suddenly asked.

Liu Xuanzhen shook his head, looking doubtful. That Zombie was even wearing armor, with a rusty, broken sword. It seed more like it had been a soldier in life.

Everyone clicked their tongues in wonder.

"What a pity," Lei Zhengang shook his head.

"What's a pity?" "It's a pity we can't use it in reality. It would be great if we could use it in reality." Lei Zhengang said regretfully. At his words, the others also realized the implication. Although Palm Thunder was formidable, this was, after all, the Dream World, and it seed rather useless here.

However, Liu Xuanzhen suddenly revealed a strange smile, "Who says it can't be used in reality?"

Everyone was startled, "What, do you an you can use Palm Thunder in reality?"

"Correct," Liu Xuanzhen nodded.

This was too incredible to believe. In Luo Sen's mind, spells were sothing only Immortals in legendary stories could use, always lingering in the pages of comic books and tales of the elderly. Now, Liu Xuanzhen claid to know spells, completely shattering Luo Sen's world view constructed over many years.

He glanced at Liu Xuanzhen, this guy who had not been a Taoist for many years, now seed to exude an air of immortal Taoist charm.

"Then why don't you run?"

"If he could run, he would have done it long ago. Do you really think knowing spells makes one invincible? Are those soldiers with guns just for show?" Lei Zhengang suddenly interjected. He too was an old hand in the mortal world, having been a bandit and fired guns before.

Palm Thunder might have looked impressive, and it did startle him, but as he regained his composure, he realized that the so-called Palm Thunder wasn't all that powerful. It didn't even kill the Tiger-headed Monster in one hit, which ant its power was sowhat inferior to bullets. Moreover, it had a short range and required casting, against a group of ard soldiers there would be no chance at all - before a single Thunder could strike, one would be riddled with bullets like a beehive.

"What about that Taoist Book you ntioned? Let us learn too. If we all knew spells, maybe—" Lei Zhengang began to say but stopped short. However, the implication was clear to everyone. If they all knew spells, maybe they could fight their way out.

Liu Xuanzhen shook his head, "After I finished learning, the Taoist Book disappeared. It seems each book can only teach one person."

At his words, the others were greatly disappointed. Lei Zhengang's eyes darted around suspiciously, "You didn't hide that Taoist Book, did you?" Liu Xuanzhen glared at him, raising his hand, and Lei Zhengang shuddered in fear, not daring to speak out of turn again.

Liu Xuanzhen continued, "Although that Taoist Book is gone, I've learned that this world is definitely not a dream. How could a spell learned in a dream be used in reality? So let's not treat this world as a dream anymore. Moreover, even though that particular book is gone, this world still contains other Taoist Books. If we could get hold of more and learn from them—we would beco powerful! Once our strength is sufficient, we could—" He made a motion of swinging his fist, and everyone understood the aning. If all five were adept in spells, possessed superpowers, they could revolt and fight their way out. "But didn't you just say Palm Thunder is inferior to guns?" Wang Wenbo, who was rather timid, turned pale at the thought of rebellion.

Liu Xuanzhen nodded, "Relying solely on Palm Thunder certainly won't cut it. However, there are more powerful spells. It's just that it says my Taoist Heart is not strong enough yet to unlock them."

Luo Sen was curious, "What is Taoist Heart? And who is 'it' you ntioned?"

Liu Xuanzhen explained, "Taoist Heart is likely one's understanding of Taoist philosophy, I suppose. As for 'it', I'm not sure who 'it' is. It just erged in my mind while reading the book. It might be an Immortal for all I know."

Communicating in one's mind seed to be a feat only Immortals could achieve.

After hearing this, everyone accepted the idea and regarded Liu Xuanzhen with increased awe. With the support of divine powers and knowledge of spells, he had beco the de facto leader among the five.

Liu Xuanzhen added, "It certainly won't be easy for everyone to learn spells; it will take ti. But during this period, we must keep this secret. If anyone leaks this, it will bring disaster to us all. Therefore, we must all take a deadly Oath Curse, promising never to go back on our word under any circumstances, or else be struck by the Five Thunders Bombardnt and pierced by a thousand Arrows to death."

Take an oath? Would such a thing even work?

Yet, it seed that Liu Xuanzhen read their thoughts, "Don't worry, aside from learning Palm Thunder, I've also learned the Oath Curse. We'll swear a blood oath; if anyone breaks it, they'll be struck by divine retribution."

If Liu Xuanzhen had said this before, for sure no one would have believed him, but now, everyone shuddered at his statent and solemnly swore, pledging they would rather die than break their vow.

Lei Zhengang slapped his thigh, "Alright, to die as a bird would leave a path behind, but not dying grants countless years of life, I'm with you."

The others also nodded in agreent. To survive, to keep living, to take control out of this experintal lab, several n with nothing to their nas reached a consensus. Luo Sen looked at his companions. He couldn't quantify the effort required to realize their plan, nor how many would live to see its success. Yet, glimpsing the confidence of Liu Xuanzhen, he too began to foster a flicker of hope.

Just to have hope, he muttered to himself, having resolved to risk life and limb for their cause. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, you're welco to vote and support on Qidian ). Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian to read.)
