Lu Xinying spoke with sincerity, which indeed was the only chance they had. Behind the screen, his gaze beca expectant yet solemn.

Xiao Buli thought to himself, could it be true? This kid actually managed to probe into a military base? Quite capable indeed. Had it been the Green Dragon Group mbers captured instead, Xiao admitted he wouldn't likely feel as compelled to investigate and rescue them, especially if there was no imdiate threat to their lives.

Driven by curiosity, he asked, "How did you find the base without getting caught by those soldiers?"

"They are not really a military organization. If you want to know more, just agree to help rescue Wu. I'll tell you everything," Lu Xinying's words were laced with allure.

Xiao Buli was a bit tempted, but only just. No matter the clout of that organization, they couldn't possibly know more about the ga than he did; there seed little need to pay attention to them. Better to stay as far away as possible,

Yet, why was this kid so keen? Observing Lu Xinying, Xiao Buli had a sudden thought—could he have fallen for Wu Min'er?

Xiao didn't have much of an impression of Lu Xinying, only a vague mory that Wu Min'er had once ntioned he was the only person in the Vermilion Bird Group she truly trusted. There must be a reason for her certainty. His guess was probably not far off. However, he had no interest in such matters, and besides, he had more pressing issues to attend to.

"The question is, why should I rescue her?"

When Xiao Buli said this, he felt no embarrassnt. After all, he and Wu Min'er were rely acquaintances. They maintained similar relationships with everyone at the company. He wasn't inclined to take such a risk for her, especially when those from the Green Dragon Group were the ones in urgent need of rescue.

Wu Min'er was at least not in imdiate danger, and she wasn't suddenly turned into an NPC like the others who were running out of ti.

"Isn't she your friend?"

"Of course, she's a friend, but I have many friends. Am I supposed to rescue each one that gets in trouble? Moreover, I don't owe you anything."

Lu Xinying fell silent. After a brief mont, he asked, "So what kind of friend would you risk your life to save?"

"Only if we've been through life-and-death experiences together," Xiao Buli gave his answer.

"Life-and-death experiences, I see." Lu Xinying surprisingly didn't persist further, relieving Xiao Buli. Had Lu beco insistent on asking for his help, it would have been quite a headache for Xiao.

Xiao Buli departed, a flash of lightning appeared out of nowhere and he vanished before Lu Xinying's eyes. As the streak of electricity cut across the night sky, Lu Xinying, too, disappeared into the darkness. Returning to the city, he made his way through the dim alleys of Nine Dragons City to the slums.

This was the shadowy corner of Nine Dragons City, a haven for the lower classes and constantly on the fringes of the law. Survival of the fittest was the rule here, and with the influx of countless refugees, the chaos only grew. But to so, this chaos was an ideal environnt.

Navigating through narrow streets and labyrinth-like alleys, Lu Xinying arrived at a dilapidated two-story building and knocked on the door.

A pair of fierce eyes flickered through the door's peephole, and monts later, the door opened. Lu Xinying stepped in. The room was lit by candlelight, but it still appeared eerie. Several unsavory characters were chatting in a corner, hardly taking note of Lu Xinying, though they seed to recognize him.

A petite figure descended from the second floor—it was Jin Qiaoqiao from the Rat Association.

"So, was the information accurate?" Jin asked with a smile.

"Yes, quite accurate. I've t him already," Lu Xinying said as he passed over a Gold Coin.

Originally, raising his Prestige with the low-profile Rat Association to Reverence had seed useful. Now, it paid off; he knew about every move within Nine Dragons City. Even as a VIP, acquiring information wasn't free, but it was all worth it. At least Lu Xinying now had a good grasp of Xiao Buli's abilities, and he was the right candidate for his plans.

Upstairs in a room, Lu Xinying logged out of the ga. Staring at the computer wallpaper featuring Wu Min'er's sweet face, his gaze lulled into a daze.

It had been weeks now. How was Wu doing? Was she expecting him to co to her rescue? Or perhaps she wasn't thinking of him at all?

Lu Xinying was well aware that in Wu Min'er's eyes, he was probably just a friend, a partner. But that didn't matter to him. As soone with mild autism and a recluse, he had never had a girlfriend before joining the company, barely ever talked to girls, and despite his deep desire for female affection, he could never fulfill his wish when facing won.

He wasn't charming, naturally introverted, with ordinary looks and a frail build—not an eye-catching person by any ans.
