[Donald’s Perspective]
I walked up and stood by Margaret’s bedside, looking at her still sowhat pale face with heartache, and said in a gentle voice, "It’s alright now, I’ll always be with you."
I didn’t know if Margaret heard my voice, but the frown on her brow relaxed, and her breathing through her nostrils beca longer and more even.
I breathed a sigh of relief, watched Margaret for a long while, then turned and went to the bathroom in the room to wash up and re-treat the wound on my leg.
I had originally planned to stay with Margaret, but the actual situation proved that plans can never catch up with changes. At 3 o’clock midnight, I received the latest news from my Lycan subordinates: they had traced the whereabouts of Levi and his group at the Third Crossing of the Lilo Sea, in the northern waters of the Lilo Sea.
And after several days of investigation, Christian finally found so clues about the group who kidnapped Licia.
I looked at the dust-covered Christian and his group, pointed to the couch beside , and said in a grave voice, "Speak directly."
Christian sat down on the couch and reported with a nod, "Your Majesty, our investigation over the past few days has made a significant discovery! There is an extrely mysterious island to the north of the Third Crossing of the Lilo Sea. We’ve been following the kidnappers’ trail and found that they and the Empress Dowager all disappeared in that area!"
"That sea area is shrouded in fog all year round and is full of hidden reefs. Even the most experienced fishern can’t really get close. Our best-swimming Lycan also said there is no other way, so I led the team back to ask for your instructions, please command us!"
I patiently listened to Christian’s report, rubbing a ring with my finger, and remained silent for quite a while before asking, "Besides this, did you find out the identity or origins of the kidnappers? Are they locals from the Lilo Sea, or are they from elsewhere?"
"Before I ca back, I t with officials from the Marine Supervision Bureau here. They said they had noticed these mysterious werewolves from outside long ago, and Alpha Levi of the Spirit Dragon Pack had so interactions with them! That official said they previously thought these people were brought in by Levi for a high price to deal specifically with the local Werewolf Gang, but it seems that is not the case now. This group doesn’t seem to follow Levi’s orders directly."
Christian’s analysis was logical. From the combat we had today with Levi and Henry, it was clear that both of them seed unaware that Licia had been kidnapped while traveling south with us.
If these kidnappers were really in an employnt relationship with Levi, why didn’t they inform him about the abduction of Licia? Or is there a third party behind all this? Besides Henry, who was severely injured today and whose life and death are uncertain, who else could have such terrifying power?
All the events seed to co full circle, covered with a veil that made them mysterious and eerie everywhere!
I pondered these issues in my mind, frowning deeper and deeper, "We can’t keep making blind guesses without a basis. We need to continue to look for clues and evidence. You said you t with that official before you ca back, who is he?"
Hearing this, Christian looked up at and replied, "Your Majesty, this official is the Director of the Lilo Sea Mariti Supervision Bureau, nad Berton."
"Berton?" I repeated the na softly, unable to find a corresponding figure in my mory. However, Elliot, who was beside , stepped forward.
He looked up at and said respectfully, "Your Majesty, I seem to have seen this man before. Just now, he was leading a group of officials at the manor’s entrance, eagerly wishing to have an audience with Your Majesty."
After hearing this, I glanced at the corner clock on the wall, pondering the oddity of these matters, took a breath, and said, "Where is he now? Is he still waiting at the entrance? Have soone call him in."
A Lycan near the door left to carry out the order after hearing my command, and I withdrew my gaze, turning instead to Christian, "When did you et with him? It took you a day to rush back from Crossing Number Three, and this Director of the Marine Bureau made the journey in nearly the sa ti; that’s quite impressive indeed!"
Understanding the doubt in my words, Christian also realized the peculiarity. After thinking for a mont, he said, "We t with Berton two days ago. At that ti, he seed to be dealing with the issue of stolen ships at the Third Crossing. He rushed over to et you. Was it about the theft of the ships or was it because of the kidnappers?"
"Another thing, I never ntioned your whereabouts during our eting. Where did he get the information that you had arrived at the Lilo Sea? This Mr. Berton seems very suspicious, Your Majesty!"
Christian has always been ticulous. After being slightly reminded by , he also imdiately sorted out his thoughts and quickly pointed out several strange aspects.
I listened and slowly nodded my head, lifted the teacup from the desk, drank a sip, and replied, "He has already co to us, hasn’t he? Let’s wait and see what he really wants to do."
