[Margaret’s POV]
"I would also like to know what happened between her and Armstrong this afternoon."
I said these two sentences very calmly, lifted my foot to step around Nora and Frand, and headed straight out the door.
The sound of Nora and Frand’s footsteps following did not co until several seconds later, and I didn’t have to look to know what their expressions were—nothing more than impatience mixed with a superficial sense of guilt, no doubt.
The impatience was naturally for my beautiful sister Elizabeth, while the shallow guilt was compensation for having just misunderstood and given an earful.
Scenes like this I had experienced countless tis before, but still sohow couldn’t get used to.
To admit that one’s own parents love soone else more than they love you is apparently a very difficult thing, even though that ’soone else’ is not a stranger, but my own sister whom I deeply love.
The situation was very urgent, and I did not have the spare ti or energy to dwell on these grievances; I had to forcefully suppress them at the bottom of my heart. At this mont, connecting with or finding Elizabeth and their group was the most important thing!
Walking at the forefront with agile and quick steps, Nora and Frand trailed behind , seeming to want to say sothing, but I had neither the ti to entertain them nor the desire to respond much.
"Margaret? I was just about to go to your room to find you, how co you are here at this ti?"
Donald’s voice ca from the corridor ahead, which brought my attention back, and as I looked up, my footsteps didn’t stop as I continued towards him.
"What’s wrong? Has sothing happened?" Donald, with just one glance, saw the tension and gloom in my mood, and, holding my hand gently, continued to ask in a warm voice.
At his words, I let out a light sigh, looked up into Donald’s eyes, and said gravely, "We haven’t been able to contact Elizabeth for nearly five hours now, and I am worried they have encountered so kind of accident on their way here!"
"What? You’re saying that Armstrong and his party haven’t arrived at the Royal City yet? That’s impossible, didn’t he tell he would be here by four o’clock?" Donald, upon hearing this, imdiately voiced his surprise in a questioning tone.
He looked over at the Minister of Internal Affairs Clark who was behind him, with a questioning and puzzled look that seed like it would spill out.
Clark, as if intimidated by Donald’s gaze, trembled slightly and replied urgently, "Yes, Your Majesty, the Alpha and luna of the Silver Moon Pack indeed did not arrive at the scheduled ti. This is the latest news from the city’s patrol team outside the Royal City. They were just about to report to you!"
"Read it," Donald said, not wanting to hear more of Clark’s explanation, his face cold as he uttered this single word.
Clark didn’t dare delay, and imdiately proclaid a terrible piece of news, "The patrol team received a distress signal on the outskirts of the city at noon. When they arrived at the source of the signal, they found the scene in complete chaos. After several hours of investigation and inquiry, they confird that the ones attacked were the Silver Moon Pack coming to attend the banquet..."
"The attackers seed to have killed many of their pack mbers and took away all the bodies from the scene along with captives!"
As Clark conveyed this shocking news, the atmosphere in the room instantly froze to an icy standstill. I stared wide-eyed, nearly forgetting to breathe as I looked at Clark in astonishnt!
’Killed many people’—what does that an? Does it include my sister Elizabeth as well? Armstrong and Anthony are such brave and skilled werewolves, how could they let sothing like this happen?
No! This couldn’t be true! Elizabeth and Armstrong could not be dead so easily!
My mind was swirling with many doubts about the attack, yet at the sa ti, I was forcing myself to stay calm and use my reason to analyze everything.
Perhaps it was after being with Donald and always being influenced by his calm and perfect approach to things that I have now also beco soone who can keep their cool. But standing behind , Nora and Frand, who had been silently absorbing the information, would not be as rational and calm!
"What do you an by that? Are you saying Elizabeth and the others were attacked? How is that possible? Weren’t they already within the jurisdiction of the Royal City? Why would an accident still occur? Who attacked them? And why? Why?"
"Aren’t you the Lycan Minister of the Wolf Royal Family, aren’t you supposed to protect our pack? How co you are only finding out about it now? Are you all useless? And what about your so-called patrol team? Why did they take so long to confirm who was attacked?"
"Is this what you call the supposedly superior genes of the Lycan of the Wolf Royal Family? Hah! You’re simply too disappointing!"
