[Margaret’s POV]
I easily sidestepped Lillian’s sharp claws, my splendid skirt even rippling in the air.
Lillian, whose strike had failed, was not as graceful or relaxed as I was.
She couldn’t control her montum, almost losing her balance and nearly crashing onto the garden’s marble tiles. "Ah! Margaret, how dare you dodge? You won’t escape my grasp today!"
I found her threat, unable to grasp the situation at hand, utterly amusing.
Glancing at her sideways, my face bore an expression of extre sarcasm, "Why wouldn’t I dodge? Did you think, with your diocre fighting skills, you could actually get an advantage over ? Who gave you such confidence?"
Turning to face her, the sarcastic smile in my eyes faded away to be replaced by a cold scrutiny, "I don’t know if you’re genuinely insane or just venting your anger on , but your brother’s death was entirely his own doing—it’s unrelated to anyone else."
"You want to pay with my life for him? You really are good at playing the fool!" I added coldly, a sneer forming on my lips, my gaze toward Lillian nothing but aloof.
After hearing my words, Lillian’s eyes reddened as she glared directly at , her voice filled with venom.
"Isn’t it all because of you, bitch, stirring up trouble? My brother and Donald were such good friends, why did everything change so drastically after you arrived in Royal City? Isn’t it you who instigated Donald to kill my brother? Do you think I would believe a word you say?"
"Ha! Do you think you will always be so pleased with yourself? Donald won’t love you forever. I’ll wait for the day you fall hard from the highest peak! Hahaha!"
As she spoke, Lillian seed to completely lose her sanity, entirely disregarding the servants rushing up to restrain her, desperately trying to provoke once more!
I frowned and observed her, taking in her utterly desolate state.
Lillian’s pretty face was deathly pale, her eyes bloodshot as she stared fixedly at . I couldn’t quite understand her thought process at this mont; it just seed utterly absurd to !
Austin’s death was in no way my fault, and Lillian’s irrational hatred toward was truly speechless.
Gazing at Lillian restrained on the ground, I asked tentatively after so thought, "Why do you believe your brother’s death is related to ? Did soone tell you sothing? Who have you t in these past few days?"
Lillian, now thoroughly hating , naturally refused to answer my questions and kept glaring at , her eyes boiling with a murderous intent.
A silence spread between us; I smirked softly, knowing it unlikely to extract any useful information from Lillian, and continued, "It’s okay if you don’t want to talk. I’ll go ask Mother about it."
As I spoke, I shifted my gaze from Lillian to the modest building behind, continuing, "Three days ago, Mother rescued you from Eastern Shine Palace, and she has been keeping you protected in this house ever since, hasn’t she? Mother really does take good care of you."
As if provoked by the ntion of ’Mother,’ Lillian suddenly began to struggle violently, cursing incessantly...
Had everyone not known I was the most innocent in this affair, this scene would have looked as if I were the evil supporting character, always relying on influence to bully others.
"Bitch! Don’t you feel too smug! I...ah!"
Before Lillian could finish her curse, she was slapped across the face by a maid!
She cried out in pain, her expression filled with humiliation and resentnt, just about to continue cursing, but the maid interrupted her abruptly.
"Shut your mouth! Our respected Lycan Queen is not soone you can insult at will. Keep your mouth clean!"
The maid paused, glanced up at respectfully, then continued to address Lillian, "Empress Dowager saved your life out of her kindness and rcy, don’t take this as an opportunity to ask for more!"
"Before it’s known by Her Highness that you again attempted to escape, you better go back with us quickly to avoid disappointing and saddening the Empress Dowager!"
My expression unreadable, I observed the speaking maid and the kneeling, disheveled Lillian, remaining silent.
The maid seed older, likely a high-ranking servant in the Palace, bold in actions but surprisingly considerate in speech.
