[Margaret’s POV]
Today was the second day Donald led the assault team into the Misty Forest.
I woke up early, or, to be more precise, I had not truly closed my eyes all night. Insomnia had taken hold of during the night spent apart from Donald.
Even though Donald had obtained new information from Elizabeth and explained to that there was a high chance of success for the mission, I still felt uneasy inside—a very bad premonition lingered in my mind.
And as it turned out, my worries were not unfounded, or rather, the specific people and events I worried about were not quite accurate, but my sense of foreboding for the situation was indeed extrely precise!
When Benjamin inford that Elliot’s injuries had suddenly deteriorated, I was a bit stunned; things had developed into the most complex and urgent situation possible.
At this point, Elliot could no longer wait for Donald, not even for a minute. He had to leave the Silver Moon Pack imdiately to seek a good doctor and better dication at the Palace of the Wolf royal family.
"Are you saying we must leave right now? But Donald hasn’t returned yet, and we don’t have a Lycan capable of taking control of the entire situation. How are we supposed to coordinate this?"
I said, my brow furrowed as I looked into Benjamin’s eyes, full of confusion and anxiety.
Benjamin was, of course, very aware of the severity and suddenness of the current situation. He ran his hands through his disheveled black hair, looking utterly exhausted and guilty!
"I’m sorry, Miss Margaret! I have failed the trust His Majesty placed in ; I couldn’t keep Elliot’s condition from worsening. I am so sorry to put such pressure on you, but I can’t just watch Elliot die! I want to save my friend, to seek one last chance at life for him!"
As Benjamin spoke, his eyes hardened with determination.
I could actually empathize with the complexity and guilt Benjamin was feeling at the mont. The words I had just been brewing in my mind to persuade him and myself now seed impossible to say.
I looked at the pale-faced Elliot lying in the sickbed, took a deep breath, and said, "I understand. I’ll take full responsibility for this matter from now on."
After saying this, I pondered for a mont, then lifted my gaze to Benjamin, my mind already made up, "There’s still a portion of the assault team left in the pack, not many, but enough to form a Guard Team to protect both and Elliot on our return to the city. There’s no other option now!"
"Inform them at once, leave the Lycan patrol on the outermost periter of the forest, then have the rest of the Lycans stationed in the pack assemble in half an hour. We need to march back to the city urgently! We can’t stay passive waiting for Donald, we must leave for the city imdiately. I will discuss the rest with Armstrong. Go, make it happen."
Benjamin seed stunned by my decisiveness and efficiency, giving a blank look before suddenly springing into action to deliver the orders.
I was aware that to these Lycans of the Wolf royal family, I was not the absolute and legitimate Lycan Queen.
Since being with Donald, a lot had really happened, without any ti for ceremonies. This made worry whether these Lycans would truly heed my command, whether my authority over them was enough?
The situation had developed so suddenly and urgently that I didn’t have much ti to ponder these things; I could only do what needed to be done, adopting a firm and resolute stance.
Armstrong received the news that I was to lead the team taking Elliot back to the Palace and imdiately ca to find at Donald’s residence, with Elizabeth following closely behind.
"Margaret, listen to ! I advise against such a risky action. There are too few Lycans in the pack now; they cannot ensure your and Elliot’s safety. Departing now is gambling with your own security!"
"The Lycan King would never allow you to act so impulsively and dangerously. You must stay, wait for the Lycan King to return safely with his team, and then make other plans."
I, of course, heard Armstrong’s words clearly and understood his disapproval and concerns about the situation.
He was always a steadfast and practical worker, never one for taking risks or acting without substantial certainty.
"Ruth, go check on the vehicles at the entrance and see how the preparations are going, then help move these important items into the car. Leave the rest here; we’re pressed for ti right now."
After instructing the maid to take care of mine and Donald’s luggage, I turned back to face Armstrong and Elizabeth, who was looking at with a face full of concern but not speaking a word.
Seeing that I wasn’t responding, Armstrong, sowhat agitated, shook his head and urgently said, "I’m talking to you, Margaret! Did you hear ? You can’t be so willful!"
