Cecilia’s pov
The car approaching us suddenly accelerated, hurtling straight toward .
I stumbled backward, desperate to get out of its path.
My back collided with sothing solid—Xavier, who had been pursuing .
His arms imdiately wrapped around , pulling against his chest as he tried to step back.
Thanks to his protective gesture, I completely lost my balance.
What would have been a simple retreat for alone turned into both of us tumbling to the ground in an ungraceful heap.
The vehicle was forced to stop when another car swerved in front of it, blocking its path.
"Cecilia!" Harper scread, her face pale with terror as she rushed to help up. In the chaos, she deliberately kicked Xavier’s shin.
Xavier shot Harper a venomous glare before turning to , his hand reaching out. "Are you hurt?"
"Get away from ," I hissed, recoiling from his touch like it was poison.
Two figures erged from the stopped vehicles.
Cici White and Tang.
It had been Cici driving the car that nearly hit , while Tang—who had been following us since last night and had driven us to the police station—had intercepted her just in ti.
Cici stord toward , her face contorted with rage, eyes wild with an almost feral intensity. "You bitch! Even after the divorce, you’re still trying to seduce him!"
She raised her hand to strike , but Tang caught her wrist mid-air, forcefully pulling her away.
Xavier positioned himself between us, playing the role of my protector.
I stepped away from him without a word, revolted by his pretense. His fake concern made sicker than Cici’s unhinged behavior.
"What the hell were you trying to do, Cici?" Xavier roared, his eyes flashing with anger that seed almost too theatrical. "I told you not to touch her! I told you to leave her alone! I swore I’d kill you if you hurt her! What did you promise ?"
The look he gave her contained no warmth, only profound disgust mixed with sothing darker and more complicated—sothing that made my skin crawl.
Cici’s eyes filled with tears. "You’re my mate! Why are you still seeing her? I won’t allow it!"
"She ca here to sign the statent dropping charges against you. She’s already given in—what more do you want?" Xavier snarled.
"I want you to never see her again!" Cici scread, tears streaming down her face. "You can only love ! Only see ! Any woman who cos near you deserves to die!"
"You’re completely insane," Xavier growled, massaging his temples.
He stepped closer to her, his expression growing dangerously dark. "I’m warning you for the last ti—if she loses so much as a hair on her head because of you, I will NEVER claim you as my mate. I don’t care what you threaten with. We can both go down in flas for all I care."
Cici’s tears flowed faster as she clutched his arm. "I won’t do it again, I promise. I’ll never bother her again."
She looked up at him with pleading eyes. "I just lose control sotis... it’s only because I love you so much. Xavier, I’m carrying your pup—you can’t abandon ."
Her voice dropped to a breathy whisper. "I love you. I love you so, so much."
Xavier’s expression remained glacial, though I could see a muscle twitching in his jaw. "This ends here. Neither of us will disturb her again."
"Yes, yes, I promise. I really promise," Cici nodded fervently before turning to with a saccharine smile. "Cecilia, I’m sorry we hurt you. We won’t bother you anymore, but please don’t co looking for Xavier or try to seduce him again."
I stared at them both, utterly speechless.
God, please send lightning to strike these two delusional idiots.
The more I watched them, the more convinced I beca that I was dealing with two certifiable lunatics who belonged in an asylum.
I took a couple of steps away, then pointed at them both. "You two... should be permanently glued together. Consider it your contribution to the earth—doing the world a favor by staying together."
"How dare you—!" Cici’s outrage quickly transford into a smug smile. "I know you’re bitter. I told you he would be mine. And now you have nothing. I won."
"Yes, yes, yes," I said with exaggerated agreent. "I have nothing. You won. Congratulations, he’s all yours."
My sarcastic tone made Cici grind her teeth in fury.
"I wouldn’t say she has nothing."
A familiar voice joined our conversation seamlessly. Alpha Sebastian approached from the direction of the police station.
"Alpha Sebastian?" I looked at him in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"Taking care of so business," he replied simply, his answer deliberately vague.
He smiled pleasantly at Xavier and Cici. "Congratulations on getting what you wanted. Such a touching display of perseverance and devotion. Truly heartwarming."
His gaze flicked to , and his smile widened. "But don’t worry about my secretary. Her best days are still ahead of her."
He placed his hand on my shoulder in a gesture that might have looked like a boss showing concern for an employee. "Co on. Let show you a better path."
His arm settled around my shoulders as we walked away. The casual possessiveness of the gesture made almost trip over my own feet.
Harper, who had been fuming silently, caught up with a triumphant grin. "Off to the high road we go!"
She gave Xavier a contemptuous once-over. "So much better than that filthy, dark little path where you step in shit every few feet. This path is clean, fragrant, and lined with flowers, paved with better things.. My friend has such good fortune—I’m actually jealous."
She flipped her purse over her shoulder and walked away with a bounce in her step.
...
I had arrived at the police station in Tang’s car but was leaving in Alpha Sebastian’s—with him driving and just the two of us inside.
When I got in, I wanted to speak, but he didn’t give the chance.
After several minutes of driving in silence, the atmosphere grew increasingly uncomfortable.
I sat rigidly, determined to be as quiet and unobtrusive as a statue.
"Why were you at the police station?" Alpha Sebastian finally asked, breaking the silence.
After a mont’s consideration, I decided honesty was best. "Xavier found yesterday and demanded I write a statent dropping charges against Cici. He threatened my family... You’ve seen how unhinged she is. I couldn’t take the risk, so..."
"So you ca this morning to sign the statent," he finished for .
"Yes."
Alpha Sebastian was quiet for a mont before speaking again. "You made the right decision. Don’t feel powerless. The balance of power between you and them is completely uneven—that’s not your fault. Retreating to protect yourself was the wise choice."
His words made my throat tighten with unexpected emotion. No one had ever spoken to like that before. I had felt so frustrated with myself, hating that I had to back down. The feeling had been crushing.
I nodded slightly. "Thank you."
"Don’t lose heart," he said, his voice carrying a steely undertone. "Revenge isn’t about acting rashly—it’s about waiting for the right mont."
