"I’ll like to apologise for any inappropriate behaviour I might have exhibited when I got back yesterday."

Mike looked up the food he was eating to stare at Tolu. After she had gotten back ho drunk out of her mind and absolutely ready to stab him with a broken bottle, he had helped her bathe and clean up.

Tolu had slept through the night and the entire next day. Today was the second day since she got back, and he was a little bit surprised to see her up already.

"Hello, Tolu. You did not get back yesterday. You ca ho two days ago," he said quietly.

Surprise flashed across her face.

"I can’t believe I slept that long."

Mike shrugged but said nothing. His eyes was carefully trained on her, and he was trying to see if she rembered anything from that night.

"Why are you staring at like that?" she asked.

"Just trying to see if you were apologising because you rembered what you did, or if you were just apologising for the sake of being polite," he deadpanned.

Tolu rubbed her forehead as she finally moved away from the doorway and walked into the kitchen.

She went straight for the coffee kettle, and drained the last of the coffee Mike had originally made for himself.

"Did I...was it bad?" she finally managed to ask after deep gulps of coffee.

Mike sighed as he shook his head.

"You know what? Never mind. There is absolutely no point in talking about it," he concluded.

Tolu raised her eyebrows at him. There was an edge to his voice, and even though she rembered nothing, she was definitely not stupid enough to believe that what happened wasn’t a big deal.

Tolu knew that she did or said sothing, and she wanted to know what it was so bad.

So she insisted.

"We are adults. Let’s talk about whatever it was that I did."

Mike shook his head. A bolt of anger shot through his veins at her insistence, and unable to help himself, the anger crept into his eyes.

It crept into his fisted hands and into his words.

"Fine. You want to talk about it? Let’s talk about it. Where should I start from? Your sudden disappearance? The fact that go ca ho half naked and drunk out of your fucking mind? Oh, we should probably talk about the fact that you were covered in blood too? And did I forget to ntion your choice of murder weapon? You walked in here with the intention of killing . With a fucking broken bottle! So yes. Absolutely. Let’s talk about it!"

He was yelling now, his anger having slipped past the leash he had kept on it.

Tolu’s jaw hung open at his outburst. She blinked rapidly as she tried to co to terms with everything he just said, and her coffee remained forgotten before her.

"You’re angry," she said. Her words weren’t a question. It was a statent.

Mike scoffed and continued to eat.

Tolu took a deep breath before she spoke again.

"Listen to , Mike. I understand how you feel. I was wrong about what I did, and I am sorry. In retrospect, getting dead drunk and losing my mories of what I did or did not do was a terrible idea. I don’t even recollect holding a broken bottle or anything. But I understand your anger. I really do. And I am sorry," she explained quietly.

Mike exploded in her face.

"You understand my anger? You’re sorry? What the hell, Tolu? Can you even hear yourself right now? You almost killed . I was scared out of my mind. What if you hadn’t woken up when you ca in? What if you had just decided to stab to death while I was asleep? What if I had said the wrong thing that night and you lost your shit? Hell, what if you had hurt yourself? I was so fucking terrified that I haven’t been able to sleep since you walked back in. You give nightmares! Fucking horrors! And you tell that you understand? What the hell?"

Tolu closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She understood his anger, and she saw that he had a valid reason.

But she was staring to get angry too. Mike was obviously pissed and was yelling at her for what she did.

Had he forgotten that the only reason while she had gotten drunk was because of him?

He was the one who had ntioned them getting divorced.

He was the one who was the fault of the situation they were in.

He was at fault, and yet here he was, yelling at her.

"Stop yelling at , Mike. Stop. Stop it. You’re such a hypocrite. You’re yelling as if all of these are my fault, as if you don’t have a larger share in what is going on too. You wanted to divorce , Mike. You wanted a fucking separation! Why did you think I got so drunk I didn’t rember shit? It was because of you! You!"

Mike pushed his chair back and stood up. He wagged his fingers in her face.

"Don’t you dare give that bullshit. Don’t you dare. You were losing your fucking mind! How can you expect to be with you when you are on the way to being a psychopath? I can’t even breathe with you near. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life wondering if you would eventually kill in my sleep. I am exhausted. So yes, I want the fucking divorce!"

Tolu’s heart stilled.

Her hands started to tremble as angry tears sprang into her eyes.

"What?!" her voice ca out as a whisper. She could not believe her ears.

"You heard , Tolu. Leave the fuck alone," he snapped.

"You think I am going to kill you? You...you think I am a psychopath?" she asked.

"A fucking crazy one at that, yeah," he spat at her, too tired to deal with her bullshit.

Tolu nodded slowly.

"Fine. You want to see what a psychopath can do? I’ll tell you. That coffee you just drank? It’s poisoned. I swapped out the original coffee beans. Now we are both going to die."
