"Hey, baby. Which colour do you like best, Pink or Blue?" Curtis asked over the phone.

Lara frowned at the suddenness of the question.

"I don’t know. I think it depends on the context. Why?" she responded.

"I’m trying to get you your personal car, and I have no idea what colour you would want it to be. So I called to ask."

Curtis dropped the explanation in such a casual manner that made Lara’s jaw drop open.

A car?

"What do you an, get a car?" she asked, managing to get her jaw off the floor.

"It occurred to that all the cars in the garage belong to . You don’t have any in your na. We need to change that."

A groan slipped past Lara’s lips.

"Co on, Curtis. Don’t be ridiculous. You know I don’t need a car. You don’t have to get anything," she stated.

But from the silence on the other end of the phone, it was obvious that Curtis’s mind was made up.

"Pink or Blue?" he asked again.

Lara rubbed her forehead.

"You know what? If you are insisting on doing this, fine. Pick whatever colour you want. I’ll go with your choice."

Curtis didn’t hesitate before he responded.

"How about I buy both?"

Lara’s gasp was so loud that she had to slap a hand over her mouth to stifle it.

"You’ve got to be kidding . What the hell, Curtis?"

He said nothing, letting the silence stretch between them. Lara knew she had no choice, so she eventually had to give in.

"Fine. Get the blue one."

Curtis smiled, and he could imagine Lara rolling her eyes. He had successfully managed to force her into a corner where she had no choice but to choose.

He knew she was going to talk his ears off once he got back ho, but it was worth it.

True enough, the mont Curtis walked into the house, he was faced with a stony faced wife.

"Why did you do that, Curtis? You didn’t have to, and you know it."

Curtis held her gaze, his eyes unwavering from hers.

"Because I wanted to. And like it or not, you already have it. So you can berate all you want, but it’s not going to change anything."

She rolled her eyes at him. Lara wasn’t really angry. She was just... resigned.

And dramatic.

Still, she didn’t back down that easily.

"This wasn’t on our contract," she stated. Curtis flinched at the ntion of the contract.

The flinch happened so fast that Lara didn’t notice it, but Curtis felt a slight chill run down his spine.

Why the hell did she have to bring up the contract? Why now, when he was trying to present her with a heartfelt gesture?

Lara crossed her arms and went on.

"I an, if I don’t put a stop to this now, it is probably going to beco a pattern. And that would make so uncomfortable. So let’s just go with the conditi..." she was saying, but Curtis wasn’t willing to let her finish the statent.

"Shut up, Lara."

His words ca out harsher than he intended, and it stung Lara.

She reeled back from him, surprised.

"Is anything the issue?" she asked.

Curtis ran a hand through his hair and swallowed past his frustration. He should not get mad at her, he knew.

But he couldn’t help himself. The mont she ntioned that damn contract was the mont she ruined his mood.

Still, he tried not to dwell on it.

"Nothing. I’m sorry. Co on, let’s go see your new car," he said instead.

Lara knew he was lying. It was obvious that sothing was up, and she was pretty certain that whatever it was had sothing to do with her or sothing she might have said.

A part of her wanted to push, to insist, but she decided against it. If he wasn’t willing to talk about it, then she wouldn’t ntion it too.

They made their way out of the house and down to the garage.

Lara could feel her excitent building with every step she took, and it was hard for her to constrain her curiosity.

Curtis’s ruined mood got better as they walked. He felt a warmth building and spreading across his entire body. Her reaction as they made their way to the car made his heart full so much that it was a miracle his feelings weren’t flooding the house.

They got to the garage.

"Are you ready?" he asked, his fingers poised over the button that would open the garage’s entrance.

Lara bounced on her feet excitedly, and she clapped her hands together.

"Yes please."

With a slight nod, Curtis clicked on the button. The garage entrance slowly grinded open.

A sleek, beautiful blue car was sitting right before Lara.

She let out a scream when she saw it.

The car was so beautiful.

"It’s so breathtaking," she whispered. There was awe and love and a mixture of fear in her voice. It was as though Lara was scared that she would ruin the car just by standing next to it.

"Do you like it?" Curtis asked gently.

Lara turned to face him, and there were tears in her eyes.

"Like it? I love it. It’s so... elegant. I can’t...Oh my God. Thank you so much, Curtis. Thank you," she said, her voice soft and filled with tears.

Curtis’s heart stirred at her words. He walked closer until he was standing right behind her.

Then he spoke.

"You look so beautiful with that smile on your face, and I suddenly wish I had done this sooner."

The mont the words slipped past his lips, ti slowed. The words settled around Lara, and her heart stopped.

Sothing — a foreign feeling — started to stir in her chest. Before she could stop to think about what she was about to do, Lara turned to face him.

Then she went on her tip toe to plant her lips on his.

Curtis froze.

Lara was kissing him. She had initiated a kiss all by herself and she was kissing him.

His mind went into overdrive. He grabbed her waist and kissed her back, taking control away from her almost imdiately.

Lara leaned into him, letting his warmth surround her.

A part of her wanted to pull away, to apologise. But she didn’t. Curtis had been nothing but nice to her.

And even though she knew she should stop, she didn’t.

A strange sense of desire had taken control over her body. Lara’s body wanted Curtis, and she was going to have him.

So as she kissed him back, Lara slowly pushed away all of the warning signs blaring at the back of her mind, and she gave herself up to him.

Completely.
