Lara sighed as Curtis fussed over her. "You really didn’t have to do that though," she said to him as he sat at the foot of her bed.

Curtis raised an eyebrow as he stared at her. To him, Lara didn’t seem to know the gravity of what Amanda did to her.

"She slapped you," he said very curtly.

Lara sighed again. "I don’t know how many tis you want to repeat this, but I was the one who slapped her first. Twice, even," she insisted.

"Even if you had beaten her up, she had no right to touch you. My babies are growing in your belly, Lara. Even an ant has no right to crawl closer to where you are. Why are you not taking this seriously?" he quipped.

Lara’s brows furrowed into a slight frown.

"I am not taking this seriously? For the love of God, I am not going to encounter a miscarriage just because of a slap. You are too extre," she quipped back.

Curtis reeled away from her as if she just slapped him.

His eyes started to blaze with anger, and he stood up.

"Am I too extre? TOO EXTRE? Those babies are my life, Lara! They an the entire world to . And you might not like yourself enough, but I love my unborn babies more than life itself. So you can call nas if you want, but I will do whatever I want to people who pose a threat to my children."

Lara shook her head at him.

"You’re impossible. I don’t know why I bother talking to you," she said with a resigned air.

Curtis ran a hand through his hair and let out a groan of frustration.

Then he sat back down.

"Please, Lara. Please. Call extre all you want, but I am begging you. Please. The babies need to co out safely. Please."

He sounded so sincere and so desperate that Lara’s anger softened.

She nodded at him.

"Fine. I’m sorry for snapping at you. Thank you for standing up for ."

Curtis stared at her for a long ti, his expression unreadable. Lara was trying to figure out what he was thinking about when noise floated up the stairs and stread into the room.

When Lara heard who was shouting, the peace that had settled on her imdiately vanished.

Curtis, who heard the voice too, stiffened. He stood up and gestured to Lara to stay where she was.

"Don’t worry. I’ll deal with this," he said curtly and walked out to et his mother.

"Curtis! What has that woman done to you? What lie did she tell you to make you get Amanda arrested? What is going on with you?" the woman yelled at her son, and Lara winced at what the woman was insinuating.

Lara didn’t hear Curtis’ response, but the woman scoffed at whatever he said. And then she stord up the stairs and walked towards Lara’s room.

"I warned you to stay away from my son, did I not?" the woman snapped imdiately as she walked in.

Lara stood up and held her stance.

"I am sorry, but I can’t leave your son alone. We are a married couple. Why are you guys not respecting our marriage?"

Lisa scoffed in disbelief.

"You really are delusional enough to believe that my son is your husband? Whatever act you have going on, I assure you that I will put a stop to it. I will break your hold on my son and make sure your life is miserable, you slut."

And as it happened before, Lara flared up at the insult. She rose to her full height and glared at the woman.

"I am not a slut!"

Lisa smirked when she noticed that she had touched a nerve.

"You are whatever I say you are. And right now, you’re nothing but a lying, gold digging slut who just wants my son’s money!"

Lara threw her hands in the air.

"STOP CALLING A SLUT. I AM ANYTHING BUT THAT!"

"Stop raising your voice at , you mannerless bitch," Lisa yelled in return.

And Curtis stord into the room.

"Mother! You will stop whatever you think you’re doing and you will get the hell out of my house right now," he snapped at his mother.

Lisa turned to face her son as disbelief slamd into her.

"Did you just raise your voice at ? Because of this bitch?" she asked, unable to believe her ears.

Curtis strolled over to stand before her.

"My wife is not a bitch, and she is definitely not a slut. I won’t let you walk in here and disrespect the mother of my children!"

Lisa froze.

"What did you just say?" she asked, her voice suddenly turning quiet.

Curtis continued to glare at her.

"You heard what I said. Now get out of my house," he growled.

Lisa didn’t move an inch.

She turned her head to face Lara, her eyes going straight to stare at Lara’s stomach. Then she stared back at her son.

Whatever Lisa saw in her son’s eyes made her tremble, and she started to shake her head frantically.

"No. No. This can’t be true. Please. Tell this is a lie. She can’t be pregnant with your child. She can’t!"

Lara took a step away from the woman, her heart beating. What was her problem? Lara expected Lisa to be happy for her son after everything he had been through.

But for her to start reacting this way... it was so weird.

Curtis grabbed his mother’s arm.

"Co on. You need to get out of here. And let this be the last ti you co into my house to make a scene."

Lisa yanked her arm away from her son’s grip. Her eyes grew wide, and her trembling got worse.

"Curtis. You have to believe . This woman is lying to you. She can’t be pregnant for you. She can’t!"

Curtis was beginning to lose his shit. He turned to grab her arm again, determined to carry her out of his house if he had to.

"That pregnancy belongs to another man! I saw her with my own eyes, Curtis. Your ’supposed’ wife is cheating on you!"
