Kimberly Jennings was ho alone. Seraphina Sterling couldn’t think about anything else. With a buzzing in her head, she sprinted ho!
The cozy little ho they had decorated together was now a complete ss. The brand-new sofa had four deep slashes from a sharp blade, the dining table and chairs were overturned, and the living room and bedroom were in shambles. Their lovely ho looked as if it had been ransacked by burglars.
Seraphina Sterling rushed into the master bedroom and saw a bandage wrapped around Kimberly Jennings’s forehead, bright red bloodstains seeping through the white gauze. Seraphina bit her lower lip hard, her eyes turning scarlet. ’They dared to touch my family! No matter who they are, I will never let them get away with this!’
"Mom, how are you? Why aren’t you in the hospital?"
"Seraphina, co quick and talk so sense into your mom. I told her to stay in the hospital for observation, but she just wouldn’t listen and insisted on coming back!" Sumr’s mother, May Wallace, also had a worried look on her face.
"Miss Wallace, thank you for helping take care of my mom." Seraphina couldn’t bear to imagine what might have happened if her mother had faced this ordeal with no one around to help.
"We’re neighbors, there’s no need for thanks. It’s a good thing I ca over to chat with your mom when I did. I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing! After all, it’s a head injury. The doctor recomnded she stay in the hospital for a few days of observation, but she was worried you’d co ho to an empty house and be scared, so she insisted on coming back. Nothing anyone said could change her mind!"
It was the first ti May Wallace had t soone so stubborn.
’Her relatives weren’t close and offered no support. It was just the two of them, mother and daughter, relying solely on each other. She understood Kimberly Jennings’s concerns. It was the sa as when she had bitterly begged Justin Hale to spare her baby all those years ago. A mother would give up everything for her child!’
"Mom, let’s go to the hospital! I can take care of you there! You don’t have to worry about ." In this world, she was the only family Seraphina had left. ’No matter what, I won’t let anything happen to Kimberly Jennings!’
"Seraphina, who did you make an enemy of at school? Those people were coming for you! You have to be careful. What if you run into those thugs..." Kimberly Jennings’s voice was low, but it was filled with worry. ’If it had been Seraphina they t today, the gash on my forehead would be on her head right now. That’s just too terrifying!’
"Mom, don’t worry, I’ve already called the police! They’ll take care of these people! Let’s go to the hospital first!" Seraphina Sterling already knew who had sent them. ’Well done, Willow Hale! Well done, Hale Family! Since you wouldn’t listen to my warning, don’t bla for being ruthless!’
Seraphina Sterling and May Wallace took Kimberly Jennings back to the hospital. Seraphina only left after her mother had fallen asleep.
So scores needed to be settled, and soon.
The first thing Seraphina Sterling did after returning ho was call the police. Trespassing and assault weren’t major cris, but it was still the police’s duty to handle them.
"Officer Gable, that’s what happened. We only moved in less than a month ago, and all the furniture was brand new. Now a group of people has destroyed it like this. You have to arrest all of them!" Seraphina Sterling acted very agitated and furious, perfectly matching the emotions expected of a seventeen-year-old high school student facing a sudden crisis.
"From what you’ve said, this looks like a typical revenge attack. Have you or your family offended anyone recently?" Ginny Gable was very professional and dedicated to her job.
"My mom said they ca to warn ! But I’m just a high school student. I usually just stay at school, so it’s impossible for to have offended anyone." Seraphina Sterling frowned in thought. "Although I don’t know who I might have offended, my mom knows that the ones who ca to smash up our house were the gang of thugs from town! They’re always wandering the streets. My mom has seen them many tis and is sure she isn’t mistaken!"
Ginny Gable frowned. There was indeed a group in town that operated like a gang, usually engaging in intimidation and extortion. But the residents were all afraid of them and didn’t dare to report them, so the police couldn’t do anything. ’Now that soone has finally filed a report, I will absolutely not let these people get away!’
"But your testimony alone can’t be used as evidence. To catch these people and convict them, we need stronger witness testimony and physical evidence," Jenna Hanson reminded her.
"Besides my mom, another neighbor was there. She can testify!" In her past life, Seraphina had earned a double degree in finance and law; she had already considered all of this.
"Don’t get your hopes up too high. A lot of people in town have been bullied by them, but no one has ever dared to call the police. You can’t imagine what they’re capable of in terms of revenge. Once, an old man was extorted by them. He ca to the station and reported it. We arrested them and they were jailed for a year. The first thing they did after getting out was burn down the old man’s house. Since then, no one has dared to call the police again! Are you sure this neighbor of yours will dare to testify?"
Ginny Gable had seen this kind of thing too many tis. Everyone just wanted to swallow their anger and let it go, since no one wanted to face retaliation from these people.
Ginny Gable and Jenna Hanson followed Seraphina Sterling to the hospital. When asked about testifying, May Wallace refused.
"Seraphina, I’m truly sorry. You know my family relies on our small inn to make a living. These people are gangsters; there’s nothing they won’t do. If I testify for you today, our inn could be gone by tomorrow! I’m sorry. I’ll help watch over your mother at the hospital until she’s better, but beyond that, I really can’t help!"
"It’s okay, Miss Wallace. You’ve already helped us so much!" Seraphina Sterling understood May Wallace’s concerns. ’We’re not related, after all. No one is obligated to risk themselves to testify for !’
"Officer Gable, without a witness, there’s no way to arrest these thugs, is that right?" Seraphina Sterling was remarkably calm. ’If I can’t use the normal legal channels, then I’ll just have to take care of it myself!’
"That’s right. Everything depends on evidence! Without evidence, even if we arrested them all, we could only hold them for a day or two before we’d have to let them go!" Ginny Gable also looked dejected. She had been transferred to this place for over a year, and this was already the sixth ti sothing like this had happened.
"Alright then. Thank you for your ti." After saying this, Seraphina Sterling left calmly.
The dark clouds in the sky grew thicker and heavier, heralding the arrival of a great downpour.
