Outside the gate.

Wenxin finally managed to turn the red sports car around. She wasn’t sure if it was the pain of her father’s departure or disgust at her own deaning behavior that overwheld her. Her emotions suddenly beca a blur, and the mont her mind went blank, tears stread ceaselessly from her eyes.

Wenxin suddenly found no one who could comfort her. He used to be there to protect her; she would have been able to cry in his arms at a ti like this.

But not anymore. He had Shen Jing now.

Wenxin had barely stepped on the accelerator for two seconds when her vision blurred, and she crashed into an oncoming Porsche.

The front of her car scraped the rear of the other with a loud BANG—

Shen Jing instantly jolted, looking back in confusion.

The Porsche owner, a middle-aged man, got out of his car, cursing.

"How do you even drive? I was going straight!"

Wenxin, likely experiencing her first car accident, was so overwheld by negative emotions that she could hardly stand.

"I’m so sorry. I wasn’t driving carefully."

The Porsche owner was quite upset. "My car is brand new; I just got the plates! Can’t you watch where you’re going? Luckily, I braked in ti. You have no idea how bad this could have been."

Feeling picked on again, Wenxin pressed her hand to her forehead and squatted on the curb, tears streaming down her face even more fiercely.

The Porsche owner was taken aback for a mont. "Don’t cry. I’m not bullying you, okay? I don’t want you to pay; we’ll go through insurance. Please stop crying."

Wenxin replied coldly, "Don’t look at . My crying has nothing to do with you. My dad just died, so I’m not in a good mood. I’ll pay for all the damages to your car."

As she spoke, she bent down to search for her wallet and phone in her car.

The Porsche owner, seeing that the driver was a polite, beautiful woman who was crying so heartbrokenly, sighed. His anger had already dissipated.

She was wealthy, beautiful, and her all-black attire, though understated, was made from custom-brand materials. It looked like she had just co from Yunding.

Wenxin found her card and handed it to him. It identified her as Chairman of the Wei Group.

In a bustling city like this, it was all about connections and social graces.

Seeing how red Wenxin’s eyes were, the Porsche owner handed her a tissue. "You must have been crying for a long ti. My condolences, young lady. As they say, all good things must co to an end."

She looked up at the towering Yunding No. 1 Mansion building.

Why do they like hiding won in there? What’s so great about these houses? Wenxin seed to mumble to herself.

The Porsche owner followed her gaze. It was known for its privacy and river views. If you had the money, you bought a place there.

But the Porsche owner wasn’t inclined to dwell on her questions.

"Young lady, can your car still be driven? Let’s call a tow truck company first," the Porsche owner asked.

She lowered her head. "Tow it. I don’t want it anymore. I don’t want anything anymore."

Shen Jing, of course, hadn’t heard any of this exchange. She only saw the Bentley, which had already driven into the parking garage, turn back around.

Shen Jing’s fingers, hanging by her sides, involuntarily curled slightly. She quickly turned and entered the lobby, unwilling to watch.

Seeing her, the lobby concierge stood up.

"Miss Shen from 9099, your delivery is here. We’ve placed it on a cart for you. Would you like to take it up now?"

Shen Jing simply humd an affirmative.

It was all toys she had bought for the little kitten.

The more she pampered the kitten, the bolder it beca, and it had torn all its toys at ho to shreds.

She had asked Chen Yao about it. Chen Yao said the little female cat was in heat. When Shen Jing had ti, she should take it to a cattery or vet to help it find relief, or consider spaying it. Otherwise, it would tear things up and howl even more intensely.

If it got worse, it might even climb the walls and shred Luchen’s antique paintings.

While getting her delivery, Shen Jing waited to see if Luchen would co to the lobby to et her, but after a long ti, he didn’t appear.

Shen Jing pushed the cart into the elevator and went upstairs alone.

Upon entering her apartnt and unpacking the delivery, the little kitten, as if drawn by the scent, pounced into her arms, owing.

Outside, rain began to fall, droplets streaking down the windowpanes.

Shen Jing gazed out, sowhat dazed. Why wasn’t he ho yet?

She dialed Luchen’s number.

"The number you have dialed is currently unreachable..."

Shen Jing placed the kitten back in its bed. "Be good and don’t run around. That rotten man just recovered from his cold; I’m going to see if he’s out in the rain."

The kitten let out a soft OW, its amber eyes shining brightly.

Shen Jing placed a finger to her lips in a hushing gesture, then grabbed an umbrella and headed downstairs.

The security guard at the south gate opened the pedestrian iron gate. "Miss Shen, out again? Are you going to give soone an umbrella?"

Shen Jing looked down at the umbrella in her hand and smiled.

"Right after you went in, that red sports car had an accident." The guard, bound by duty to his post, couldn’t leave to look. "I wonder what happened. I’m really curious."

"They crashed," she confird. "It seems Mr. Zhou wasn’t in such a hurry to leave after all."

The security guard didn’t respond further, only offering a polite smile.
