Xie Jiangzhi didn’t press Shen Yanhe about why she was so eager to get to the lab or what she intended to do there. After confirming the ti to go to the lab tomorrow, he gave her the contact information for his assistant, Xiao Jiang.
"I’ve shared my assistant Xiao Jiang’s contact information with you. Tomorrow, you send him the address, and he’ll drive over to pick you up," Xie Jiangzhi said.
A warmth fluttered in Shen Yanhe’s heart, "Okay, thank you, senior brother number three."
The brother and sister chatted for a few more sentences before hanging up the phone.
Shen Yanhe washed up and then fell into a deep sleep.
-
The next day.
Shen Yanhe got up without seeing Fu Yanhe around and only after ssaging him did she learn that there was a matter at the Fu Corporation that required his attention.
After finishing her morning routine, she sent Fu Estate’s address to Xiao Jiang, asking him to pick her up after he had breakfast.
When Shen Yanhe went to the dining room for breakfast, she saw Jiang Yun sitting at the table eating. Shen Yanhe paused slightly and subtly touched the glass jar containing the egg custard in her pocket.
Although she couldn’t confirm if Jiang Yun was the one who had poisoned Fu Yanhe, her vigilance towards her was at its highest.
Shen Yanhe adjusted her facial expression, showing a sweet and gentle smile as she greeted, "Mom, good morning."
Jiang Yun, holding a sandwich, returned the greeting with a smile, "Yanyan, why did you get up so early? Why not sleep a bit longer?"
"I went to bed early last night and just couldn’t fall back asleep after waking up," Shen Yanhe responded, sitting across from her, answering obediently and cutely.
"I see. Yanyan, do you have any plans today? Could you accompany mom to go shopping?" As Jiang Yun beckoned a servant to pour milk for Shen Yanhe, she smiled and said, "Look, you’ve been married into the Fu family for so ti now, and mom hasn’t bought you anything."
"Let’s go shopping today."
Shen Yanhe was about to drink her milk when she paused, smiling apologetically at Jiang Yun, "I’d really love to go shopping with you, but my grandmother ca yesterday, and she’s currently at Shen Huai’s hospital waiting for ."
She subtly placed the milk, which usually tasted sweet but today had an unbearably fishy scent, back on the table, "I need to go to the hospital to accompany them today... I’m sorry, mom, I’ll go shopping with you another ti."
Jiang Yun waved her off with a hearty laugh, "There’s nothing to apologize for."
"Our two families haven’t t yet, and I don’t have much to do today either. How about I go to the hospital with you to see your brother and take your grandmother out to lunch?"
There was a flicker in Shen Yanhe’s eyes.
Jiang Yun was acting out of character today.
Throughout the many days Shen Yanhe had "been married" into the Fu family, Jiang Yun had never shown concern for her, or even for Fu Yanhe. Her usual focus seed to be more on Fu Yu.
Or she would be having afternoon tea with other high-society ladies and doing PSA activities.
But today, she repeatedly expressed a desire to be by Shen Yanhe’s side and even to et her grandmother...
Considering the untested egg custard in her pocket, a dark glint passed through Shen Yanhe’s eyes.
Was Jiang Yun planning to do sothing to her as well?
"Mom, I appreciate your kind gesture, but a hospital isn’t a good place for such a eting," Shen Yanhe said, her eyes conveying a mix of helplessness and gratitude to Jiang Yun.
"Let’s arrange a proper eting next ti. I will make a reservation at a restaurant, then pick up both you and grandma so that both sides can et."
Jiang Yun also realized her suggestion had been inappropriate.
It wasn’t common for family elders to et for the first ti at a hospital.
She didn’t insist any further, as that would make her intentions seem overly apparent.
"That’s true, it was thoughtless of ," she said with a nod.
"Then you take my car later. I’ll drop you off at Haicheng First People’s Hospital, and then I’ll go see Xia Ran at Ancheng Hospital."
"Alright." Shen Yanhe didn’t refuse this request again; to do so would make it seem like she didn’t know what was good for her.
After having breakfast, Jiang Yun went upstairs to put on makeup first.
Shen Yanhe sat on the sofa, a few traces of thought creeping across her soft, delicate face. She lowered her gaze to take out her phone and sent a ssage to Xia Jiang, asking him to go straight to the People’s Hospital to wait for her.
No matter what Jiang Yun intended to do today, it was better to be cautious.
Half an hour later, Shen Yanhe got into Jiang Yun’s car to head for the hospital.
When the car stopped at the hospital’s entrance, Shen Yanhe unbuckled her seatbelt and got out. Jiang Yun watched her and cautioned, "After you see your brother and grandmother, if you want to go ho, you can call . I’ll co pick you up."
Shen Yanhe paused as she opened the car door, then nodded, "Okay, thanks, Mom."
After getting out of the car, Shen Yanhe went straight to the inpatient departnt without looking back.
Jiang Yun watched Shen Yanhe’s figure disappear before driving toward Ancheng Private Hospital to visit Xia Ran.
After changing into protective clothing and going through a full-body disinfection, Shen Yanhe arrived at Shen Huai’s ward, just in ti to see her grandmother, also in protective gear, chatting with Shen Huai through the glass.
Shen Yanhe didn’t interrupt them; she stood quietly at the door, listening.
Most of the conversation ca from Ye Min, while Shen Huai sat leaning against the glass, his face revealing a longing expression.
The conversation between grandparent and grandchild ranged from the village’s interpersonal relationships to the livestock at ho: "The chickens at ho are fattened up nicely. After your surgery, once you’re better, Granny will take you back to the countryside and roast one for you to taste."
"And your aunt’s family is raising a big fat pig, planning to slaughter it for the New Year to eat. That pork is really good. Once you’re discharged, Granny will buy so and make fried atballs for you."
Having not tasted various kinds of at since he was admitted to the hospital, Shen Huai’s mouth watered at the thought.
He wiped his drooling mouth and nodded emphatically, "Okay, Granny, wait for . Once I’m better, I’ll leave the hospital to help you with the work, and we can raise our own New Year’s pig to fatten up!"
"Yeah right, with your gluttonous ways, the pig won’t even have ti to grow before you start eating it," Shen Yanhe snorted, teasingly.
Her voice attracted the attention of both Shen Huai and Ye Min.
"Sister! Where’s brother-in-law?"
Ye Min looked behind her, "Why did you co? Are you alone? Where’s Yanhe?"
"He’s busy with work at the company," Shen Yanhe walked closer to Shen Huai, tapping on the glass at his forehead, "What? Aren’t you happy to see ?"
Shen Huai chuckled, "Not at all! I’ve missed you."
Shen Yanhe tapped Shen Huai’s nose with her finger and huffed playfully before turning to Ye Min with concern, "Granny, have Shen Guowei and his lot been bothering you again?"
She had warned Shen Guowei and Gan Danxue the day before, but there was still Shen Yingying to consider.
Shen Yingying hadn’t been at the Shen Family ho yesterday. What if Shen Guowei found a loophole to let her bother Ye Min?
"They haven’t co back," Ye Min scoffed coldly, her voice filled with resentnt, "If that ungrateful wretch dares to co again, I’ll beat the crap out of him."
"That’s good. Next ti if he cos looking for you, tell him to co to . Don’t pay attention to whatever he says, and it would be better if you could kick him out directly," Shen Yanhe advised, feeling slightly relieved.
Ye Min nodded.
The three chatted for a while, and Shen Yanhe asked if Ye Min wanted to return to the countryside.
After all, Ye Min was used to living in the countryside, and Shen Yanhe was worried she wouldn’t adjust well to staying in Haicheng.
Plus, the companion bed in the hospital wasn’t particularly comfortable, and it wasn’t convenient for her daily life.
"Not going back for now," Ye Min waved her hand, "Isn’t Shen Huai prepping for surgery? You kids don’t have an adult around, and when the ti cos for running around and paying fees, you won’t know what to do."
"I’ll just stay at the hospital for the ti being. After Shen Huai’s surgery is successfully done, then I’ll head back," Ye Min decided.
