Chapter 79: Authority In Exchange for Tutelage
While Elaina is doing her best at work before the eventual arrival of her parents, Princess Margaux on the other hand decides that she will head to her sister. She already knew where she would be staying so Princess Margaux had an idea on how to deal with the situation that Elaina is facing right now.
After getting permission from both Elaina and Julia, she left the farm and headed straight to where her sister was staying. She is not afraid to head there without any companions with her because the Shadows are just nearby and currently maintaining their distance while also keeping the princess safe from any danger.
It wasn’t that far from the farm so she arrived a lot quicker. She has to move fast or else the hot weather would just cause her to suffer from the heat. Thankfully, she didn’t need to spend too much ti underneath the sun for that.
On a nearby plot where a new house is currently being created is where her sister is currently staying. The workers are already doing their best to complete the place as soon as possible. They even made a temporary room for her sister before the whole house was complete.
As Princess Margaux went into the area, the guards who were guarding imdiately stood up and made a salute.
"Princess! We are glad you visited!" the guards are happy to see their princess is visiting for the first ti.
"Is my sister currently inside? I wanted to speak to her if she is free," Princess Margaux inquired.
"Oh, she is indeed inside. She just finished her daily training. Would you like to talk to her right now? I will inform her that you are here."
"That’s fine. I will just go directly to her. You guys remain on guard, keep up the good work."
The guards then salute before allowing Princess Margaux inside. Since the place that Princess Tabatha is staying is technically just a room, it’s not that big right now to receive guests aside from several close friends. Even the guards and servants have to use the tents for the ti being to continue serving the princess. So until the house is done being made, they will remain in the tents for now.
Princess Margaux started knocking on the door to catch the attention of her sister.
"Co in, it’s open."
Princess Margaux opened the door and saw her sister drying her hair using her towel. It seems that she just ca out from the bath.
"It’s rare that you decided to visit, Margaux. Are you going to head back to the castle now?" Princess Tabatha asked.
"Nope. I am not here to talk about my issues right now, Sis. I am not yet going to start doing anything to resolve it unless Father and Mother would do sothing to it first."
"Then it is strange for you to visit
here. I don’t think you would willingly visit
for nothing. I know you don’t like idle chatter most of the ti and you would rather spend your ti doing sothing more resourceful or useful for you."
"Well, you are right. But I am here to ask a favor instead. Rember the farr who bested you in a fight and the one currently keeping
in?"
"Yeah, I was planning on visiting again soon to ask for her tutelage. Why are you asking?" Princess Tabatha ties up the towel into her hair.
"Well, perhaps you can help her have a bit of an authority to use as a scare tactic?"
"Scare tactic? Giving authority? Wait, wait. Explain in detail so that I can understand what you are trying to say."
Princess Margaux then started to explain the current trouble that was plaguing Elaina. She made sure to tell every single thing she learned from the siblings to ensure that her favor to Princess Tabatha would be approved.
"That is...sothing else. I heard of so parents like this back when I watched so court trials that Father usually does and it is about things like this and that which usually involves the parents most of the ti. But hearing sothing more severe than what I know, this is not just a plain old abuse. This is neglect to the highest level!"
"Right? According to her, she might get pulled back by those parents and take her away from her farm. She is trying to find a way to stop them from doing so."
"I see. And since I was the First Princess, you are asking to let
use my authority on this matter and drive them off? Why not use your authority as the second princess?" Princess Tabatha asked.
"Hey, Sis. You already know that I am not that well versed in politics yet and even if I did, I don’t have authority as much as you and brother though so my presence alone would just be useless. I want a foolproof way to stop that from happening."
Princess Tabatha went silent for a bit, thinking about what to do next. Princess Margaux was just waiting for her response until her sister smiled.
"I think I have an idea. Alright, wait for . I will co with you back to the farm. Let
get dressed and prepare first then."
...
...
Elaina waters the plants one by one to ensure that the sprinklers would also rember the amount of water needed to water every plant every day. It’s not that hard of work but the hot weather just adds up the difficulty making things hard for her.
She also doesn’t want to bother the Feys who are already resting. Despite them being for hire, Elaina doesn’t want to rely on them most of the ti. She doesn’t feel it is right to treat them like slaves. They might be workers but they also have the right to rest as well.
Thankfully, after a few more minutes, Elaina is soon done with the work and all of the newly sowed seeds are now watered and even the crops that aren’t new are also done being watered as well.
Elaina was about to go inside the house to grab a glass of water and replenish fluids for her throat when Princess Margaux returned with soone in tow. And as she expected, it was none other than the First Princess Tabatha.
"Good morning Master Elaina!" Princess Tabatha greeted as soon as she saw Elaina wiping her sweat and looking in their direction.
"Don’t call
that. I never accepted your proposal, you know?" Elaina chuckled.
"You might not have accepted , but I will not just give up that easily you know?"
"Well, as much as you are persistent about it, the answer is still no. I am quite busy as a farr so even if I accept you as a student, what then? I couldn’t spare much ti to harness my sword for quite so ti."
"Then I have a bargain, Master Elaina. I hope this will work but I think you might like my proposal. My sister talked to
about your current situation and I heard you needed so backing to scare off your parents from causing bigger troubles to you, yes?"
Hearing this, Elaina frowned and looked at Princess Tabatha with a serious look on her face.
"Hey, this may not sound respectful to you Princess, but please, stay out of this situation. I know you have quite the backing since you are a Princess of this kingdom but even that is sothing I don’t want to utilize for my gain and if if I try to involve both of you in my problems, things might go awry. It’s best that you two would not bother to help
in this case. If you want to help, just be there and support
on the sidelines, alright?"
"Why not?!" Princess Tabatha was shocked as Elaina outright rejected her proposal without a single thought.
"Because I don’t want things to be troubleso for both of you and also for the kingdom as well. It’s best to avoid the worst-case scenario."
Elaina already thought of asking for help from the royalty before the girls even offered her one. However, this is one of the main options she imdiately rejected without a second thought. Why? Not only will this cause and spark trouble, but it might also beco a prelude to war as well and Elaina is not going just to drag a peaceful kingdom to war just because she wants to stop her mother and father from taking her away from her farm.
She knows very well her parents. With how much power they both hold from the court of Luminiera Kingdom, it might only take a few days before they declare war after the two princesses decide to help her.
Therefore the only reasonable answer is to reject the offer.
"No. I don’t want you girls to help . I appreciate the concern but I rather do things by myself without relying on the royalty to deal with it. Trouble will just brew further if I decided to ask you two for help."
