Chapter 542: Spirit of the Tree [I]

The corruption is thick and quite troubleso to deal with, but it was quite easy for Elaina to deal with it to the point that even if it is quite a few layers on the ground, the Blessed Watering Can can easily wash it away like so kind of dust that has stuck on a surface.

Thanks to the enhancent that the Dragon Knight did to the watering can, it is clearing impurities left and right. Elaina even thinks that she took more ti clearing the impurities of the minor World Tree compared to what she was doing now, which is more corrupted than the forr, since it was the pri location and the center of all the corruption.

With the Dragon Knight removed and the source for the spread of corruption gone, Elaina is not worried that the cleansed areas would be corrupted again. She is more worried that she will not be able to finish the cleansing process much faster since she still has a large area she has yet to clear properly.

A few minutes after a grueling cleansing job, Elaina finally reached the main tree. With the surrounding corruption cleansed, the heavy feeling that the fairies have felt should have lightened up a bit. Of course, Elaina cannot feel or see it, but she didn’t really care if she couldn’t feel it. If it is hard for those who can feel it to even get near there, then it would be best to be numbed to it.

"Good to see that this tree will soon recover again after cleansing this place. It’s a lot better to have a glowing golden tree like the one outside than to stare at a gloomy, dying, and creepy tree like what I am looking at right now," Elaina comnts as she stares at the rot creeping on the World Tree’s trunk.

"[And if you clear this corruption, you are one step closer to achieving the task that the creator god has given to you, yes? Can’t believe that sothing that is considered impossible can be possible just because it was you who started doing it.]" The God of Farming was a bit baffled by how things had turned out now that Elaina is in charge of finishing the task that the other kingdoms should have been doing.

"Eh, considering how they wouldn’t even think that this matter is caused by a dragon and an old World Tree in the first place, I don’t think they have any way to even deal with the problem like how I did. I only just lucked out and stumbled on sothing that can actually clear the corruption like this."

"[Well, that’s true as well. Considering how regular cleansing magic never works, even if they did know the cause, they wouldn’t learn how to cleanse the land properly. Heck, even you would not be able to help much as well if not for you obtaining the watering can in the first place. At least you are doing this with ease.]" the God of Farming added.

She started pouring the water from the watering can to the ground and slowly cleared the corruption as she walks around. The process is a bit monotonous at best, but it is working well and the black marks on the ground has slowly disappeared as Elaina continues to water the surroundings.

Soon, the ground has returned to normal, and as expected, the purified and cleansed land seems to have slowly regained its vitality as the grasses that once failed to grow on the corrupted lands have sprouted on the ground easily. It was so quick that Elaina is now sure that the healing process is indeed working.

Then, as Elaina continues to pour water around and cleans the remaining black marks around the place, she suddenly hears so whispers. It’s a little bit quiet, and Elaina ignored them at first since there is a chance that those whispers she is hearing are just the jostling leaves of the World Tree or sothing else that ca from the surroundings. But as Elaina continues to clear the corruption, the stronger those whispers beco, and the more she gibberish, the sound of those whispers has beco as well.

"God of Farming, are ghosts real? Do they really exist and haunt the world above to scare humans like ?" Elaina asked as she looked around her surroundings, checking if anyone was pranking her.

"[Ghosts do exist, but they are only in the form of apparition and for visitation to their loved ones. The ghosts are not there to haunt people but to help other people reminisce about their ti together. As for ghosts that can harm and scare people, they are known as specters, and they are now treated as monsters, and I don’t think they can even pose a challenge to you anyway, Elaina. Why do you ask all of a sudden?]"

"Can’t you hear those whispers that have been whispering gibberish things in my ear?" Elaina frowned as she continued to look around and see the source of those whispers.

"[If it were a specter, then just treat it like any other monster and slice it down like normal. Don’t be scared about it.]"

"Alright, if you say so. But unless it is a ghost that can’t be dealt with by my sword, then I will bla you one hundred percent, God of Farming."

Elaina’s hand gripped the handle of her sword, ready to pull it out anyti, while her other hand held the watering can and continued on watering the corrupted areas around the tree.

The more corruption she clears, the stronger the murmurs she hears in her ears. What’s worse is that she can’t understand a single word from those whispers at all.

Soon, the only remaining corruption left is currently stuck on the tree’s trunk, and all Elaina needed to do was water the roots of the tree continuously and wait for the corruption and the rot remaining around the tree to disappear.

Just as Elaina was about to do what she was going to do next, the trunk of the tree suddenly morphed, and a face appeared on it. Elaina backs away as fast as she can and draws out her sword as she watches sothing seem to morph out of the tree’s trunk. It is morphing its way out and seems to be making weird movents for so unknown reason.

Then, the face started to get bigger, and soon it began to take shape into sothing else. A visage of a human? Or sothing else? Elaina is not sure what is going on, but she is quite sure that the tree’s trunk is morphing. Not only that, but the whispers is no longer whispering, it is now speaking, but as usual, in gibberish.

After finding out that the enemy is not a ghost or a specter, Elaina’s face turned serious and get into a fighting stance. Now that she knows the enemy is tangible, there is no need to be so afraid anymore.
